this video is phenomenal!! it really gives a whole new meaning to "bad friend". when talking about friendships, we usually focus on our relationships with other people. But we must remember that above all, we are our best friend. At times, that we can be a bad friend to ourselves. We may fall into the trap of self-destructive behaviour from another part of ourselves (that we may consider as a different person) to ourself. In a way, this song can represent finally making peace with yourself, acknowledging what you have done to yourself. just recently lost someone i really cared about due to my own Ignorance and selfishness so this song really hits home. to anyone reading this, people can change, never forget that! thank u rina
My grandfather watched this classic film back in the 50s. It became his favorite movie, and he said it inspired him to be a filmmaker. His name is steven Spielberg
there's rlly nothing like that first chorus. it's like being in this roller coaster ride and u start w/ this build up and u keep expecting that once u've reached the peak it will bring u to an epic drop. then, it hits. gravity stops for a moment. ur just floating up there and u see the sky and everything beneath u in all its blue glory. 😔👌🏽
What I like about Rina Sawayama: She's really gorgeous, has a great voice, and makes catchy music. What I love about Rina Sawayama: She's deep, emotional, rich with thought and sophistication and unapologetic about being herself.
i'm not good w words but this is my interpretation! we see from the opening scene that you're gloomy and alone. then you pull out a ring and stare at it. i think rings symbolize commitment, promise or u know... FRIENDSHIP. here comes a guy that bumps you then you don't focus on the ring anymore. he tries to give you drinks and basically show u a good time but you were reluctant at first. eventually, you give in and you do appear to enjoy all the drinking and smoking. i think that represents certain circumstances will take our focus away from what we value. then the fight scene takes place! you're so frustrated that you beat the living shit out the man! in the end, you end up bleeding and he was nowhere to be found. maybe all this time, the man represented a side of you that you resented(?) or inner turmoil or maybe he represented the time taken away from you looking at the ring. (again, a ring that symbolizes a promise u made or a friendship u cherished) once u became self aware u went berserk. i see the fight scene as a retaliation of "this is not who i am or i never meant to be this way." my fave shot was a close up of you on top of the man, looking exhausted like you let everything out but then the next scene shows you are badly hurt. i think this represents that you were too hard on yourself for being a bad friend. that's my take! ily rina!! good job with the mv i fricking love it.💓💓💓 edit: added more of my thoughts. thank you for those who liked my interpretation! love u fellow pixels. 💌
rina literally has so much range in everything she puts out. from the videos of stfu to xs to bad friend, i love how committed she is to her role. it WORKS. it's just incredible
We’re so good at beating ourselves up, aren’t we? Constantly imagining the best versions of ourselves, competing with this idealized image of perfection, this version of “us” that’s always happy or sociable or popular, and all that really does is set us back. The best person we can be is ourselves, purely and honestly. Sometimes that means that people in our lives will come and go. Sometimes that means we will go through pain. But being true to our own path will always lead to better things. We gotta trust the process.
coming back to this because I feel like I've been a bad friend recently. going to meet someone i haven't seen in a while later today. i hope i can do better
it’s so criminal how underrated she is. her album is the best ones to come out of 2019! the RANGE she provides with her songs and they’re all so good and unique in their own way?? not to mention her vocal range is incredible! Rina is incredibly talented and I don’t think any artist in this decade comes close to her sound
My first introduction to Rina was literally yesterday with "XS" (currently obsessed with that song). I was scared to listen to other songs by her in fear of not liking them and turning my back on her music. But something told me to listen to this and I have zero regrets and am now subscribed. :)

I’m astounded by the storytelling, the cinematic portrayal of bottling up emotional tolls, social commentary of drowning mental health and then BAM it all loops around to have a double meaning. Thank you Rina. This is single handedly my favorite music video song combination.
i had a friendship breakup this past weekend. 4 years with one of my best friends, gone in a day. having to see them again yesterday was painful. its honestly better for both of us to go our own ways because we were just hurting each other by that point. but it still hurts so much it’s done. i don’t know if we’re ever gonna cross paths again or talk i’m not counting on it but i’m trying to get used to life without him. part of me regrets it but whats done is done. i wish you well aj. i really did appreciate you and your friendship. i’ll always hold our memories close
First followed Rina since she modelled for Versus x Versace then kept following her when she released cherry and cyber stockholm syndrome she's an amazing and deserves worldwide recognition for her artistry
as someone with bipolar disorder, I really can relate to this song. I've lost many friendships while I wasn't medicated and dealing with depressive/maniac/anger episodes, gladly nowdays I take my medicines correctly, but those friends will never get back :/

Maybe I overreacted, well, maybe you shouldn't have...
God, it's insane how things can change like that
Don't even know where you are
What you do and who you do it with
[Pre-Chorus]
Throwing drinks at each other
Making fun of our lovers
Getting kicked out on the street, oh
We were best friends forever, but the truth is
[Chorus]
I'm so good at crashing in
Making sparks and shit, but then
I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
So don't ask me where I've been
Been avoiding everything
'Cause I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
[Bridge]
Put your hands up if you're not good at this stuff
Put your hands up if you're not good at this stuff
(Oh, I'm a bad friend, oh yeah, oh yeah)
Put your hands up if you're not good at this stuff
(Should we put the bridges back together?)
Maybe I'm a bad friend
[Chorus]
I'm so good at crashing in
Making sparks and shit, but then
I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
So don't ask me where I've been
Been avoiding everything (Everything)
'Cause I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
I'm so good at crashing in
Making sparks and shit, but then
I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
So don't ask me where I've been
Been avoiding everything
'Cause I'm a bad, I'm a bad, I'm a bad friend
Thanks

YUP MAIN POP GIRL
ニュジのライブで生歌聞いて飛んできた!むちゃかっこ良かった!!
just recently lost someone i really cared about due to my own Ignorance and selfishness so this song really hits home.
to anyone reading this, people can change, never forget that!
thank u rina
My grandfather watched this classic film back in the 50s. It became his favorite movie, and he said it inspired him to be a filmmaker. His name is steven Spielberg
huh? This isn't a video from the 50s?
I saw Rina and Hyein sing this at Tokyo Dome!
there's rlly nothing like that first chorus. it's like being in this roller coaster ride and u start w/ this build up and u keep expecting that once u've reached the peak it will bring u to an epic drop. then, it hits. gravity stops for a moment. ur just floating up there and u see the sky and everything beneath u in all its blue glory. 😔👌🏽
What I like about Rina Sawayama: She's really gorgeous, has a great voice, and makes catchy music.
What I love about Rina Sawayama: She's deep, emotional, rich with thought and sophistication and unapologetic about being herself.
To think this is the video that got her role in John Wick 4. Amazing
i'm not good w words but this is my interpretation! we see from the opening scene that you're gloomy and alone. then you pull out a ring and stare at it. i think rings symbolize commitment, promise or u know... FRIENDSHIP. here comes a guy that bumps you then you don't focus on the ring anymore. he tries to give you drinks and basically show u a good time but you were reluctant at first. eventually, you give in and you do appear to enjoy all the drinking and smoking. i think that represents certain circumstances will take our focus away from what we value. then the fight scene takes place! you're so frustrated that you beat the living shit out the man! in the end, you end up bleeding and he was nowhere to be found. maybe all this time, the man represented a side of you that you resented(?) or inner turmoil or maybe he represented the time taken away from you looking at the ring. (again, a ring that symbolizes a promise u made or a friendship u cherished) once u became self aware u went berserk. i see the fight scene as a retaliation of "this is not who i am or i never meant to be this way." my fave shot was a close up of you on top of the man, looking exhausted like you let everything out but then the next scene shows you are badly hurt. i think this represents that you were too hard on yourself for being a bad friend.
that's my take! ily rina!! good job with the mv i fricking love it.💓💓💓
edit: added more of my thoughts. thank you for those who liked my interpretation! love u fellow pixels. 💌
That's a good interpretation!! I agree
rina literally has so much range in everything she puts out. from the videos of stfu to xs to bad friend, i love how committed she is to her role. it WORKS. it's just incredible
We gotta trust the process.
you worded this so well☹️ thank you for writing this!💞
coming back to this because I feel like I've been a bad friend recently. going to meet someone i haven't seen in a while later today. i hope i can do better
it’s so criminal how underrated she is. her album is the best ones to come out of 2019! the RANGE she provides with her songs and they’re all so good and unique in their own way?? not to mention her vocal range is incredible! Rina is incredibly talented and I don’t think any artist in this decade comes close to her sound
大好きで、今家で仕事しながら毎日アルバムリピートしてる!!
I’m into her songs, I am repeating her albums working at home everyday!!
I remember listening to you on Spotify when you had like 150k monthly listeners. Now you have 2 million. We love well deserved growth!
Old person here who just discovered her awesomeness. Just looked up everything she's done after seeing her on Seth with Frankenstein. Stanning.
My first introduction to Rina was literally yesterday with "XS" (currently obsessed with that song). I was scared to listen to other songs by her in fear of not liking them and turning my back on her music. But something told me to listen to this and I have zero regrets and am now subscribed. :)
EOTWのリミックスから来たけど

Out of many songs I've heard in my life, this is the first time I've heard a song talking about being a bad friend.

A japanese new wave film starring Rina Sawayama
I’m astounded by the storytelling, the cinematic portrayal of bottling up emotional tolls, social commentary of drowning mental health and then BAM it all loops around to have a double meaning. Thank you Rina. This is single handedly my favorite music video song combination.
definitely inspired the fight scene in John Wick 4 where she took down the big guy on stairs. definitely.
i had a friendship breakup this past weekend.
E A RINA FAZ TUDO DE NOVO

THE LIGHTHOUSE (2019)
Directed by Rina Sawayama
Definitely my favorite song from the album. It gets better with every listen.
One of the best songs of the year.
The use of the choir when she says “put your hands up if you’re not good at this stuff” literally fucks me up on so many levels 🥺🥺
이렇게 좋은 노래가 있었다니
따봉혜인아 고마워
The video that got her in John Wick 4
FR THO i WAS THINKING THE SAME THINGGG
as someone with bipolar disorder, I really can relate to this song. I've lost many friendships while I wasn't medicated and dealing with depressive/maniac/anger episodes, gladly nowdays I take my medicines correctly, but those friends will never get back :/
Rina deserves so much more recognition and love. Her work is art and her name deserves to be up there with big artists.
Rina is my favorite serial killer, she's keeps on killing it
今日のバニキャンで度肝抜かれました……一瞬で大好きになりました🥺
