Thanks bro, your video really helped me out😄. I trashed my shield for a while bacause it got stuttering and juddering when it plays dolby vison contents or upscaling enabled, and its surface can be really hot. I tore it apart according to your instruction and powered it up for hours, finding out the cooling fan dead. Guess the piling heat is the root cause. I need change a new cooling fan then.
This was indeed the 2019 version. I am not sure if they are different based on the region in which they are purchased. Here is the link for NVidia's website with the 2019 version showing the power port. www.nvidia.com/en-us/shield/shield-tv-pro/
@@DerrickFaulks You know what, I'm litterally about to do this now (coincidentally out of frustation) and I jsut realized the rear of my shield looks exactly like yours. My bad 😅😅 I'll def follow along. Already gave you a like sir!
You are very welcome!!! Thank you for commenting!!! So far I haven’t seen any noticeable changes in performance. I didn’t think check temperatures before switching paste but it is currently running pretty cool and consistent with and without load.
Thanks Derrick... Wasn't sure why the cover removal was being obstinate, but your video gave me the clue of where to push. A careful brush of the blades with a small artists brush and a blast of canned air (while keeping the blade stationary to prevent motor bearing damage) removed 1 1/2 years of accumulated Dust....
Thank you for the comment! This is a great question, generally it should be fine with the factory thermal paste for a several years. However, we aren't sure when the initial thermal paste was applied and that could have been around 5 years ago. While it should still be fine, I would probably go ahead and replace it just to be sure.
@@DerrickFaulks wow that was quick.... I had it all open and then got confused about which way the heat sink goes haha... The first video I saw was a disassembly where the guy didn't even remove the board 🤣 - urs helped!!! Have a nice day
Hello there! Thank you for the question, you have the option to attach additional external storage. I am not aware of anyone modifying the internal storage.
I'm trying to remove the cover with no luck. I removed the two screws and pushed the cover how you do it, but it's not budging. What the heck am I doing wrong?
Hmm, sorry for the late reply for me it wasn’t too difficult. Do you have the 2019 shield or is this the 2017 one? I can’t remember all of the differences between the two models but that is my first thought.
@@DerrickFaulks It's not entirely new, but it's also not caked with dust or anything either, so I'm stumped as to why it feels like it's glued shut. Either that, or I'm not using enough strength when opening it, however, I feel like I'm going to break the thing when trying, so I don't know.
@@DerrickFaulks **UPDATE** I finally got it open, but I had to slide a tiny flathead screwdriver in the front, and push while pulling the screwdriver towards me. I'm surprised it didn't break the cover, and still don't understand how it didn't open as easy as others have made it look, but atleast it's open now.
@@DerrickFaulks just did both my living room and bedroom shield. The bedroom one was a used one I picked up that was probably the dirtiest out of both but not really that bad cleaned out both and repasted them.

Oh wow, yeah that would do it lol!!!! Well, I am glad I could help!!!
Im lost I thoughy this was the 2019 Pro (one with the proprietary power port). This looks like the 2017 model wuth the USB-C port- no?

Thanks for sharing, did you see noticeable performance? for cleaning and terminal paste.

That heatsink looks like type-3 hard anodized aluminum, not the best material thermally but probably the most corrosion resistance.

I just ordered a new 2019 Version Pro. Would you recommend me to repaste that from the beginning or just wait 1-2 years?

Do you repair 2019 NVIDIA SHIELD TV Pro?
I would love to. I have not homed those skills in completely. Currently I would do more harm than good lol.
Is there any possibility to upgrade the Storage in this model?

Thank you for this. Definitely needed a cleaning. Repasted as well. Feels like new again.

I have the 2019 Pro model, and for me, it's impossible to remove.
It's almost as if it was glued shut.
@@shaunrocks12 Wow that is crazy. Bought it brand new? I can't think of any reason that it would be sealed shut like that.
