I hate to sound mean but you’re lucky you got the surgery. Some of us have too many health problems to begin with arthritis. My mom was part of the boomer generation who abused pain meds so there’s nothing they will do for me about mine. Medicare won’t even pay for my foot surgery to make me able to walk again .

Military brat here of five! When mom is happy then you can have a lovely life! You go… my four brothers served. my oldest worked in Miami and traveled to mid state ga then worked at pentagon and family stayed. So I totally understand. But please as a military brat and have seen my siblings’s families. Please please consider the time line for the majority not the minority?

Why do women have to sacrifice or let go of our dreams or wants for the "man"??? I am 73 now and we have always done what my husband wanted (cows), where to live,(in the country) the cars we drive, etc. After 40 years I am getting tired of being 2nd! I am tired of being a passenger in his world. Your poor wife has molded her life around you, and made sure all the kiddos are happy. Finally found a group of wonderful friends and now she has to leave them because you got a job you were interested in over 10 years ago??? Yes, when is it her turn? Her job is huge and thankless job taking care of and teaching your children. When does she get to exhale and relax because she doesn't have to start over again???

My Dad was stationed at NAS Lemoore California I grew up there the base has new homes that were built on base now..The city of Lemoore is about 5-7 miles from the base and the city of Hanford is 17 miles from the base. Visalia is about 25 miles from base

A community of girls/women is such a important thing in a moms world. Mom friends get you through so many atressful times. As a mom of girls now in there 20's i can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that my best friends were there when I needed them. I guess I wanted to just share my thoughts on the topic. It makes me sad to think about Rachel not having that tight bond because I know how vital those relationships can be.
That's also friends for the children.

Growing up my dad was in the Navy and stationed in Newport Rhode Island, we only lived there for 9 months before moving on to somewhere else, we lived in a house in Portsmouth RI which is just a short drive from Newport but it was one of the prettiest places I've lived and I loved it. It was just a short walk to the ocean but the beaches weren't like I was used to, very rocky but it was beautiful. But you really need to love snow because it snows very deep in Rhode Island. I've lived in Key West, Orlando, Conn. Rhode Island, born in TN and that's where I live now but I sure miss Florida.

I know you to will come to a decision which is based on what's best for your family. But if it comes down to basing it on a slight inconvenience of a little bit of a commute vs. Rach having a good supportive community. Maybe your could really consider how Rach feels about that.

I used to live in Hanford, CA. It's very close to Lemoore. Don't pick it, please. Dry, hot, stuffy are the words I have.

I lived in Chula Vista, San Diego and on Pt Mugu Navy Base as a kid. I would not move to California now for anything.
It is not up to a bunch of strangers on the Internet where they live.
If by chance you get "sent" to Newport RI PLEASE look into the surrounding towns do not live in Newport. Portsmouth, Tiverton, South Kingstown, Narragansett, Richmond, Westerly all are also on the ocean or a short drive over the bridge. And absolutely BEAUTIFUL but much more affordable. It would be a much better experience. Closer to the Aquarium and the Zoo. Anywhere else in South County.

Congratulations on your good news!!! Please take into consideration all the friends and community that you and Rachel have made in St. Marys. I feel that she was almost begging you to take the Jacksonville job because of her closeness to the other women of the area. Friends like that don’t come along very much and they give her soo much support and love while you are away. Also I think the kiddos need to be grounded in the area. I really believe that ALL of them REALLY love St.Marys, even thought they might not know how to say it. Not being in the Military is really hard for me to understand because I never knew anyone in the Armed Services and especially when moving is a constant factor. If I were to choose a different place, Newport, RI would definitely be on the top. It is sooo beautiful there and so many things to do in New England. But I’m sure that you and Rach will make the best decision for your family. Take care.

Va Beach is a beautiful city and the schools are excellent. I was born and raised there and there are so many opportunities and activities for the kids and the ocean is amazing.

I think another thing to consider is that Rhode Island is tiny. You can live in Ct and still get to Newport in approximately an hour. There are beautiful beaches in Rhode Island, a very strong support of the military in the area. Housing Market is HIGH right now but a good real estate agent can get you what you need. ✈️🇺🇸❤️
Nothing beats the quaintness of Newport- we just toured Salve Regina for my daughter and after seeing the town I want to live there!

Hey now. I grew up in Bakersfield lol Full disclosure I now live in Los Angeles right by the Ocean
Congrats lots of decisions to make. This brings back so many memories of my life back in 1980 being transferred with the government, non military. We were sent from Texas to California, talk about sticker shock. We sold our little track home in San Antonio that we paid $35000., to discover we could not find a home in the suburbs of Los Angeles for anything less than $100,000. It wasn’t until after we transferred again that they started the cost of living stipen to areas like LA , New York etc… Also interest rates were at an all time high. I’m so happy for you guys tho, you so deserve this adventure.
My husband served 20 years in the Navy and we were stationed in the Virginia Beach area for a total of about 13 years. The area offers a multitude of things to do but you definitely won’t have the small town feel.

As a Rhode Islander, it’s a small state with options close to but cheaper than Newport. Although Newport is stunning. I could see your family living in East Greenwich, Narragansett or Tiverton.
The sense of community Rachel is saying she loves is important too.The kids are ok with moving at this age so do what sounds like an adventure.But either choice this is amazing for Brad

Congrats on getting in that’s a huge accomplishment. I would consider either moving to Pensacola or Rhode Island either one would be an adventure for your kids to explore and learn and see and do. However, with that being said aunt Lori, want to move to Pensacola or Rhode Island with you. Or would she prefer to stay in Jacksonville? Where you currently living in St. Mary’s. Because of aunt Lori didn’t want to move to the next state with you and rage and the kids would RACHEL be OK on her own taking care of five kids by herself without any extra help. So there’s that to consider. But I think moving to a different state would be a true adventure, and they would learn a lot by living in different states and moving to different locations in different states and they can always make friends anywhere they go, including RACHEL Just something to think about ❤❤❤
