- This is basically the second part of a double-length video. The prequel of the game featured was covered in the previous episode of Creepy Bad Endings.
Bad Endings. I don't know about anyone else, but they terrify me. Just when the hero(es) thought everything was finally right, just when it looked like peace had finally returned to the world, something happens that, at best, creates a bittersweet victory and, at worst, spoils everything and the enemies win, despite everything that happened throughout your adventure. Bad endings don't give you any second chances, you screwed things up for everyone and you must pay dearly...

I figured the Talisman just prolonged Soma's transformation for just long enough for Arikado to intervene.

I was wondering about this for quite some time, and I think I truly have an answer.
Without the talisman, Dimitri's soul...essence(?) is still within Soma's being, likely poisoning his mind, and allowing hatred to overwhelm Soma that he becomes Dracula once more.
With the talisman, Dimitri's evil presence doesn't have as strong of a hold on Soma, delaying Cecilia's process just long enough for Alucard to intervene at the nick of time.
While Alucard's comments in the English and Japanese spell it out, the in-game Japanese description on the item itself states that it holds back evil presences.
Additional Info Edit: Dimitri, if you equipped the talisman and Alucard's intervention, comments that Soma's immense shift of emotions away from hatred released him to merge with the Doppelganger. Which lends credence to my theory that he was intentionally poisoning Soma's heart with hate, which would've succeeded in transforming him into Dracula if he didn't put on the talisman.
Even worse: Celia made Soma relive the same fate that led Dracula to be: the loss of a loved one.
And in much the same way that Soma is the reincarnation of Dracula, Mina is the reincarnation of Dracula's second wife (and Adrian's/Alucard's mother) Lisa, who was a reincarnation of Matthias' wife/Dracula's first wife, Elizabetha.
Thank god that ending wasn’t canon.

With that in mind, it's only fitting that Soma decided to reward her with the distinction of being the first of his victims.

Anyone notice that when Arikado (Alucard) is standing in front of the mirror (10:40), he has no reflection? (Coz he's a vampire) and Soma's reflection flickers, like he's almost becoming a vampire, but not really... Those little details eh?

I always figured Death says nothing to Soma BECAUSE he knows Soma is Dracula. Like, he doesn't want to acknowledge the fact.

It always bugged me how they dramatically changed the Aria of Sorrow art style into a more anime art style in Dawn of Sorrow.
But Yoko looks much more appealing (and younger?) in Dawn, so that's a plus :P
Looks like her dirty pillows got a bit smaller though. Plus, Soma's coat is downgraded significantly.

Also, how strange is it for Alucard to see his father reincarnated? Is he going to keep following the person who inherits his dad's powers over and over forever?

To be fair, the Cagnazzo soul in Aria is a blatant JJBA reference, even appearing out of Soma's back and saying "Ora ora ora!" as it punches anything in front of Soma. Plus there's a voice clip in Aria's sound test where you can clearly hear a deep voice saying "Muda muda!", but I'm not sure where (or even if) that clip is actually used in-game.

There was apparently a Japanese Castlevania radio drama (or something like that) that takes place after DoS, where Death approached Soma and asked if he was 100% sure he didn't want to be the Dark Lord, and Soma confirms that he does not, which Death finally accepts, bids Soma farewell, and leaves.

I don't know if anyone noticed this, but in the scene after defeating Dario, when Soma and Arikado are standing in front of the mirror, you can see Soma's reflection, but not Arikado's.
Just a little tidbit I thought I'd share :)
Man the old castlevania games had such an amazing charm to them... not even just castlevania- most of the older games do. What happened Man? Games that have this much effort and soul put into them are painfully rare anymore.
Was that Soma cutscene in the beginning the intro I apparently never watched, or was there an anime? Looks badass.
EDIT: Soma's Perfectly Normal and Lovely Life for 3DS when?! Includes exciting features, such as:
-Seeing Julius at the supermarket and discussing current events
-Wondering if you can use Black Panther soul to make it to the movie theater on time and discovering no, no souls period
-Visiting Hammer's store and selling off your legendary weapons
-Leaving Yoko a message for her birthday while you're out of town
-Returning -Alucard- Arikado's phone the day after you two have way too much to drink (This is probably related to Yoko's birthday)
-Struggling to salvage an awkward date with Mina after you think you're about to end up in, I dunno, Generations of Sorrow, but it's just an anime convention you dip
-Witty banter about Konami's situation, including looking at a Castlevania Pachinko machine and saying "jeez, looks lousy."
Does it also include "internship at a company that's rivals with Arikado's company" DLC? He has a suit for a reason, you know!

My favorite one is the "Anime Heroes" DLC where Soma uses his Dracula powers to help people while teaming up with Mina, who got super powers from an alien accident. All while fighting Dimitri and Grahm who are back from the dead.

Man if I love the "Sorrow duology", probably my favorite games in the Castlevania series along with Portrait of Ruin! I didn't mind the seals, well except the last one maybe. It's so sad that we'll never see a game based on the final battle against Dracula... all my hopes are now in Bloodstained, the true legacy of Castlevania. Oh, and I know that's a sequel to DoS exists in the form of a light novel.

@@dvdwatcher5773 You're thinking about Order of Ecclesia which happens in the 1800's. Portrait of Ruin events are during the WWII and acts as a distant prequel to the Sorrow duology.
There is a small story of Death going to meet with Soma to confront him, where Soma rejects the role of dark lord once and for all, entirely ending the cycle of chaos linked to Dracula, and Death's servitude to Soma/Dracula.
Soma says that he'd lost all his abilities from Aria, but that's clearly not true. In Aria, he needed to gain souls to back dash, slide kick and dive kick. But in Dawn, the back dash and slide kick are parts of his natural moveset, and he can already dive kick as soon as he regains the ability to double jump. So clearly, he retained at least three of the souls he'd gained the year before.
When I saw Mina say Mr Arikado, my mind immediately went to "Domo ARIKADO, Mrz Roboto"

I and many others believe "Juius mode" is how the series should end... it's far more interesting then if you take the "good route"... plus it's more challenging, and more akin to classic castlevania and everything we love about it.
Though, Julius' whip is actually classified as an equippable weapon in the game's code. There's no way to get it though.

Soma has the power of Dominance,the power to imitate the abilities of any demon he defeats. Dmitrii however,does not defeat his foes to copy them. Instead,I believe he just blocks to copy it. The support if you still do not believe me is that he copied the axe throw soul (idk what soul it is) and that should be clarified.
Please don't kill me for putting an explanation here,I hope you understand my good intention.

People sure do love to rag on the Sealing system for the bosses. I mean, while it is true that is was rather forced into the game, I actually rather liked it myself. Kind of felt like a final blow to finalize boss fights to me.
But I guess it helps that I never really had trouble with it, even as a kid. With the exception of the 2nd to last seal (the last one was actually my favorite to do), I was able to remember all of them rather easily, even now. You usually had more than enough time to draw them out both before it actually started and the time to actually draw it out. Not to mention the actual drawing part is fairly lenient that even getting the general shape is enough for it to count. Even then, you're shown what seal to use and how it goes before even going into the boss room and you can practice them whenever you wanted. I guess I was just fortunate that it just clicked with me so easily.
Anyway, enough about that.
"Dawn of Sorrow" was basically my first "Castlevania" game, first that I owned and played start to finish anyway, and to this day it still remains my favorite entry to the series. I really wish this particular iteration of the series would return in some way someday. I want me some more Soma damn it.
Speaking of Soma, here's a silly little story. Back when I first started the game as a kid, I misread his name as Some Klutz akin to some sort of title descriptor (like Lazy Man or Young Girl) which you'd see when talking to NPCs. I quickly caught onto that mistake since, you know, his name is brought up quite the bit but for the first couple minutes of the game, I really thought the game was calling Soma "some klutz".
i've somehow still never played any castlevania game, but it does seem like the sealing system would be fairly alright unless it's something like pinpoint drawing on that few-pixel-wide line. i think the animation that plays at the beginning kinda makes it a little memorable.

Dimitrii's battle is completely gameable. Simply throw a cat at him and nothing else, and he'll be almost utterly helpless the entire fight.

I bought this game after hearing you talk about it in your last video. I loved it and actually finished it today with the best ending, but one thing made me think at the end. When Alucard said that Soma would not become the dark lord but "another" might, I immediately thought he was referring to himself. Could Alucard be panning on taking up the curse of being the dark lord?

I have the same suspicions. Thankfully, it's all conjecture in the end. Besides, Dracula's lasting replacement would probably end up being somebody evil from the get go.

Because it shows the true differences between Soma and Dimitrii, imitation is the biggest form of flattery which paves way to mediocrity, Soma’ soul is the only one who can handle the Power of Dominances, which is why Dimitrii became like that... his soul is not a Dark Lord, he’s just a rando who attempted to harness the power of chaos, demons, monsters and humans

Pay attention to Soma's face at 14:35 when Celia is about to kill Mina(?), and then at 14:44. Take a look a Soma after Mina's(?) death.

Alucard thinks that the best way to fight off against a skeleton is a knife.
This was my favorite Death boss fight, especially in Julius Mode because of how much of a challenge he was. I figured Death didn't have anything to say to someone who refused to become Dracula.

We need a most powerful character for Julius belmont. This BADASS is in FUCKING 50'S and manages to travel through the entire castle only relying on sub weapons until before Graham supposedly. MANAGES TO BE THE HARDEST BOSS IN AOS WHILE WILLING HOLDING BACK AS HE DESTROYS THE CASTLE WALL WITH GRAND CROSS. He fights most bosses AND DESTROYS THE SUPPOSEDLY INVINCIBLE BOSSES WITHOUT USING MAGIC SEALS, which Soma even stated "That should be impossible..." in dialog. The reason why Dawn is more difficult than Aria, to me anyway, is because Soma somehow got drastically weaker in the time between games. He does start with nearly as much health, has nore recovery between weapon swings (there's only so much you can do to mitigate that) and damage in general is just lower overall.
Enemies are, however, more or less the same power they were in Aria, so it actually makes things more overall balanced since you can't destroy everything in one-two swings as easily. And Killer Clown is just my favorite soul in general.
But the Magic Seals are an unnescessary "last step" to me, so I don't feel the need to go back to this as often as Ecclesia or Portrait.
(also, that portrait at the end of Julius mode is probably more creepy than most bad ending...)
I always got bothered by the fact that they don't even acknowledge that the "calamitous demon" Dmitrii absorbs, the one that had to be put behind so many layers of Hell and freaking Death and Abaddon to guard the way to it...
...is just Legion.
I mean, look around you, it's still on his traditional arena of bodies and everything. And he wasn't that much of a powerful, let alone difficult creature to fight against, in the previous game, or in any Castlevania at all. Doesn't seem to make any sense that Legion was the breaking point for Dmitrii's capacity :V
...And I'm still kind of sore Legion soul didn't came over to this game as well. I miss steamrolling around with the triple tentacle laser...
