Matthew Goode. MATTHEW GOODE! When he walked in and they announced his name, I nearly dropped my laptop! Such a super star. And his portrait won. Amazing artists today. Worthy winner.
Thank you so much for uploading this! I LOVE this program! Just want to say . . . and only my opinion . . . as much as I love the painting, the idea of using a "trademark", ie. leaving out an eye, even if I can appreciate the explaination and reason behind that choice, seems more like a gimmick to me. I think developing a personal style is far more interesting.
It is very difficult for an artist to explane why he/she paints in some way; it’s about the feellngs and the way to express. The narrative is in the mind of the viewer!
Yes! I'm always perplexed that the judges ask for explanations. It seems like something so private and their asking feels like an overstep. I want to say "That's none of your business!"
I agree- a lot of the process is happening on a non-verbal level and is not possible to explain. The questions are about trying to make what they think is entertaining TV.
i personally don't agree with the judges' choice. Susanne's work is so much more interesting, and the likeness is there compared to the other too.Don't they want Tom Jones look loke Tom Jones when the time of the commission comes?
Agreed! Usually they choose original/interesting over likeness, which often irritates me, as for me original is good but likeness is a prerequisite. This time it felt as if they chose a photo-like likeness that wasn't even the best (I agree too that Susanne's was better), and that didn't feel original at all. I think I'll never understand those judges.
The judges crack me up at the half-way point. When the likeness is very real, it's boring. When they are just blobs of paint, they get exited. What a bunch of tosh. A portrait is supposed to capture a likeness, not express a narrative. Very frustrating to watch. I'd rather mute the video and not listen to the judges.
I think art of all kinds comes under the category of beauty being in the eye of the beholder. I agree; I almost never agree with their choices. Still, I love watching.
Susan captured the true beauty of Geraldine by capturing her essence ♥️ color palette and all, it matches g!
Portrait Artist of the Year is one of my top favorite series!!!
❤ Shirley
Thank you so much for uploading! I've never found this season before, so it is all new and exciting!
What s dream to paint Geraldine, she so stunning in all senses.

Tq Tq Tq. Have been looking for this season. I had watched the season 4 in its entirety Much appreciated.
yay a new one to see!
Sndi Oliver has such an amazing smile; I wish someone could have captured that.
exelente..👏👏👏
Eek!! - that word again: I was waiting for it. Narrative.
Love these upload! Please, do consider putting this as First in the season 5 playlist so its easier to find 💪
I like Criss paintings the most, really hoped to see more of them.
Idk if leaving out an Eye is a desireable Trademark to hang on to...
Agree, not the smartest choice...
Creepy ✌️
Jeff Harrison, Dorian; Eric were my faves by far.
Ty 😊
yay
The light changing throughout the day really adds an unnecessary challenge to this competition
to make her 'trade mark' to paint one eye only is a stupid idea.

Can you post the other episodes for season 5?
l don't understand muddying or leaving out eyes when doing a portrait.
Missing Frank, ma boi ;-;
The young artist that came dressed completely in white- I think he was very brave to do that! I`d have been a mess at the end of 4 hours.
disagree, Susan for me was the winner
Why can’t you just label these as they should be PAOTY and make it easier for us to find them?!!!!!!
Portrait Artist of the Rear cracked me up ngl.

Matthew looks a bit like Freddie Highmore.

The judges are so fckg old fashioned lol. I wouldn’t go on this show if they pay me!
Where's Frank? Who he? Mr Try too hard. And why do they now have to get into 'Issues'in the self potraits?
worried artists :(
"Very inexpensive materials you can turn into gold." Uh, excuse me sir have you seen the price of good paints, paper and canvas recently lol?
He's a millionaire, he doesn't care at all about your petty economic struggles
Strange to have a French art student studying in the UK
Judges are boring…need some new blood
They chose the only really valid painter! 👍
