    Have exactly the same issue with the Weber and I only use at home pulling no more than 5 shots a day, and I am pretty careful, it’s almost impossible not to catch the needles at some point putting it back in the base and the proprietary needle sizes make constant replacement a non option.

  • @robcarpenter303
    @robcarpenter303 10 месяцев назад

    I am looking at one of these and Prior to watching this video I had messaged them and did mention that in my opinion the “ other “ one leaves the needles extremely vulnerable whether that be at home or cafe due to the exposed needles and the base. The design team with this have factored this in with what I am calling “ the Wolverine principle “ ie retractable needles, I think this was a massive design oversight and why I would put this in much higher regard. No I haven’t tried it but from a common sense design outlook it’s a no brainier this looks so much more efficient and robust. Great video 👍🏻

    Spot on. I got a MoonRaker for home before your MoonRaker video dropped. I am a 20+ year home barista. I just want simplicity, consistency, and ease of use. I am not using a refractometer, just my taste buds. I have gone from first tool runs of OCD to Londinium WDT to SworkDesign WDT, to now MoonRaker. None really fit the bill. I am lazy, but know how important WDT is. I am disappointed with bent needles. When I watched your MoonRaker video for the cafe, I was hopeful, but knew it would never work out on bar. I personally am not going to spend the money on the BH, but agree with you 100%.

    I have an Autocomb preordered and stoked for it to arrive! hopefully it ships soon. Thanks for the review. That being said, I have been using the moonraker for a while and haven’t had the issue you ran into. I’m pretty casual putting it back on the base and my needles are still straight. I don’t understand how those needles got so bent unless you are side-swiping the base every time you put it back.

    • @rileywestbrook
      @rileywestbrook  10 месяцев назад +2

      The main problem I’m referencing is the use of the Moonraker when pulling 50-100 shots per hour with a cafe crew using it in a commercial setting. It’s a fine lab toy in my opinion, just not great when used during a rush/when it’s a lot harder to be casual. Thanks for watching

    Autocomb has arrived.
    BEFORE doing anthing scan the QR code and watch the video segment on how to handle before doing anything. My enthusiasm to "play" has led me to replacing a needle aleady. Quicker you pick up using thumb and finger to holdit correctly the better. 10 mins of holding and attaching to portafilter. Then i went to adjust the height. Very easy.

    I just got mine today! I haven't used it yet, but I I'm curious if could take a look in the lab and see if there are any channeling issues due to no spiral gears on the autocomb. You don't have to do a video, but I would love to see what you come up with! I am taking mine to the shop tomorrow.

      @@ilkzode1822 I already spend it on my beans. This is just another step to making better coffee or having a better workflow. An advantage of this design is for those that sometimes or regularly use paper filters in the base of their portafilter. With this design you can set the needle depth so that it doesn't puncture or disrupt the paper but still goes as deep as possible.

    Appreciate your honest review.
    Weber unfortunately seems too Marketing heavy to become deeply invested into new releases of them. Looking at what they did with the Key grinder and it’s just released v2. Funnily when they released v1, it was the ultimate conical grinder for home and never accepted all the claims that were then tackled with v2.

    Honestly the condition of the Moonraker is astonishingly bad, I really hope that Weber would have thought about this and made the base taller to ensure that something as simple as bending the needles wouldn't be an issue

    The needles really look like guitar strings to me. I made one from a cork and a thicker plain guitar string, cost me like $0 (the wine was gonna get drunk, the guitar had to be restrung)
    Am tempted by the Comb though, cause who doesn't like a nice piece of kit?

    Got mine a few days ago and for the love of god I cannot get a single shot without an insane amount of channeling. I tried every trick in the Barista Hustle Quickstart Guide video and nothing works. I had the same experience years ago when I bought the DUOMO which sits in a box somewhere. When I am done with the rotations the coffee bed looks super even and beautiful just like in this video, but during extraction I get 3 to 4 streams that never converge. I have tried VST, IMS and Pullman baskets. No, I am not overdosing or going too fast with the rotations. I have tried different needle heights, but nothing seems make a difference. Thats $200 down the drain just like the DUOMO.
