    This is a beautiful locomotive!! Absolutely gorgeous detailing, and exceptional adjustment for the tender. I love the style of this model.

    I'm amazed yours ran straight away with the Train o Matic decoder. Mine ran off at 50% speed on speed step 1, and I had to change CV61, P factor of the BEMF, from 80 to 10 to get it to behave. Then having adjusted CV5 and CV6 to match scale speed as the loco runs far too fast, I found F3 while activiting the firebox light slowed the loco. I remapped the decoder functions so that F1 and F2 switch the firebox LEDs, leaving F3 as a 'shunt' mode. Also there is no flicker function on the Train o Matic decoder.

    With the exception of 57565 (the black one w/early BR logo) it's actually the same loco across the board! Following grouping of raIlways CR no. 828 ran as LMS no.17566, then BR no. 57566.
    The Strathspey Railway where 828 runs is my local preserved railway, so I'm lucky to see it running regularly.

    Thanks Jenny, good video. I received my sound fitted one today and I was surprised how involved it was. Normally I buy my locos without sound but as this was a small one I decided to buy it fitted. Good decision, not only was it cheaper than buying sound later but if I had bought an after market one I doubt I would have got the interlocking features.

    Does the firebox light up on DC control? Because if not I feel it jacks the price up for a feature that is unusable to DC users like myself. I’m considering buying one, but if the firebox is useless, it may cause me to rethink

    Why have tender locos gone up in price by about £80 in 2 or 3 years?

    • @18EStudios
      @18EStudios 3 года назад +1

      Labor costs in China, costs for tooling and probably many other things. Not to mention that it's an "Exclusive" so its bound to be more than what you would pay for normally if this was in Bachmann's main range

    Beautiful model! But, as a young guy still in school in the United States, I find it increasingly difficult to cope with these outrageous prices. It’s highly discouraging to anyone around my age looking to get into this hobby or someone who doesn’t have the lavish spending ability for these products. I’m in slight doubt about the exceeding price increases due to labor costs when you still have other manufacturers delivering good quality models two times cheaper. Overall, great view though!

    Great review. Thanks for that . This is a loco I’ve been waiting for for years . As a DCer I’m not really bothered by speaker installation and firebox glow , I would have rather had a less expensive price . If maybe even coming in at £150 I’d have been tempted for two . As it is I’ve restricted myself to a dark blue one . Priced at £179 for the black ones and £199 for the Caley blue these are not cheap in comparison to say a Hornby J36 that I do have two of . Yes they are not blue, but Maude has equally fine lining to the Caley model and was £135 TTS sound fitted . I think my BR one was £105 . So these are expensive for an 0-6-0 . I dare say the £300 locos are diecast Pacific’s , so not really a valid comparison . But it’s nearly 4 years since announcement and they look very fine models , so I’ll be pleased when it arrives .

    • @18EStudios
      @18EStudios 3 года назад

      Probably costs so much because it's an "Exclusive" so its bound to be more than what you would pay for if these were in the main range. Not to mention labor costs in china and the cost for tooling amongst other things plus the current situation with the world rn. If these where announced as part of the main range back in 2018 the price probably would've been around £150-£160 but that's just a wild speculation from me :)

    Hi Jenny.
    Not impressed by the thickness of the tender tops. Looks far too square in comparison to the real thing.
    Its not noticeable looking side on but would be noticeable at normal viewing angles on a layout.
    It might be possible to relieve that sharp tender top inside edge if only to get rid of that square look.
    This shows one of the problems of pre ordering models especially if you have to pay a non refundable deposit.
    Pre ordering is often made on the basis of a few photographs.
    Tony.

    Lovely model, good review, but, oh, that sound. Sorry, but to me it's dreadful. I keep hearing a humanoid voice saying "chuff-chuff-chuff" at different speeds! The sound in many model diesels has a somewhat realistic sound, but steam locos need far more depth and bass than this. My preference is to let my imagination and memory supply the sounds. What a miserable old git I am!
