My sister now owns this exact same model in a hyrid-black over white, so I can comment from experience. The interior is very roomy for four.....five at a squeeze. The small rear window makes you feel a tad enclosed, but the amount of space, headroom and legroom means you never feel cramped.......the two are separate. I'm 6'1".......and was comfy for the long trip we took. The engine feel like that in a VL Commodore:- very torquey and smooth.......it just eats the hills without even feeling them. It handles, rides and steers like any modern vehicle should. The dash was attractive, but I never figured out how to operate the cruise, aircon or centre screen properly, not being my car, but found the reversing camera a confusing mix of different markers in different colours. Rather than just one square marking the extremities of the vehicles placing, it had another that moved with the steering wheel, confusing the driver............plus a third as well! I had no idea what they're meant to be telling me! Whenever we parked the car somewhere, I couldn't keep my eyes off it! I got back into my 2012 Corolla sedan eventually and noticed a complete lack of oomph and torque compared to the C/HR. Up hills it lacks that kick in the butt you get in the C/HR and it kicks down a gear before producing any surge. The C/HR is impressive. Ignore those who state otherwise.
Happy New Year to you Jenny and the entire CarTell TV production and review crew!!! Your reviews are so effortless, flowing, packed with character and information to boot!!! Keep it up!!! All the best for 2021 and beyond!!!
thanks for the review Jenny! I think that this car would be great as a little commuter or for a young person or couple. Here in the states I think it should have AWD, but it's not an option.
The interior should offer a choice of lighter shades to give an impression of more space and brightness, particularly for the back. Otherwise a great car though. I think it looks far more cohesive and integrated when the roof and body are one colour. My sister and I are both thinking of buying one each. I like the electric blue. She likes the white. Very funky ride😃👍
Finally a honest review on the chr performance or lack of it 90kw in over 1 ton car isn't a recipe for brisk performance in some markets they get the 2.0 120kw eng used in the corrolla its disappointing they didn't apply that eng in Australia if they did there research they would find aussies like big eng in cars. Good review I only clicked cause Jen was there. She could do a review watching concrete dry I would be happy to watch
Haha great comment! I always go in with an open mind but this was terribly sluggish, from a very general use expectation. :( we've come to expect greatness from Toyota's hybrid game and sadly this chr fell short.
@@jgc4703 It's not that they are 'no good'. It's that the ONLY thing they have going for them is ride height. They are useless off road, they don't have lots of space, there is no AWD... Moreover, they are usually firmer so that they sway less, or they actually sway more in bends, they consume more fuel than a hatchback they were built on, they have worse performance, they are usually heavier and their tyres and suspension will often be more expensive. They are trying to be a mix of a small affordable city car and an SUV and we already have small city cars and SUVs, both of which will do their jobs better than this. The only things are the ride height that people like and the fact that they are en vogue right now. All this being said, if you want a cheap car to run some city errands, this is not it. If you want a capable SUV, this is not it. However, if what you are after is that you like the way it looks, that it gives you enough space and you like the ride height, there is no reason for you not to buy this.
@@bsjeran7352 thanks! That really makes sense. I really wanted to get a proper SUV, Rav4 and the likes. However, I feel like it’s not practical for me to get one as Im still single and doesnt really need that much space. Those are some good points that you mentioned. Will keep it in mind. Thanks!
@@bsjeran7352 Good response and actual helpful comments that a non car person could understand rather than pushing the "I don't like it, so it's stupid" like many others in comments section. I agree with your summary, if it floats someone's boat and meets their needs then others negative opinions on this type of vehicle don't count. Personally I have always thought SUVs without awd, well ones with a bit of grunt anyway, are a bit of a waste of time, however, plenty of people seem totally happy with them as they suit their driving styles and needs and are a bit cheaper than the awd versions and still have the same look and ride height.
Absolutely in the market this week to buy either a Toyota, Honda or Mazda although I think I've made my decision. Hardest thing has been finding a review that covers the folding down seats in the back. Best described as 'can you load Ikea boxes in there' space. I want to know if the seats fold table top flat, any bumps or deep ledges etc. I can't find reviews on this apart from Honda. Jenny, you didn't cover this at all!
I love the C-HR, really wish the 360 camera view was available in the UK...definitely looking at buying one later in the year now that android auto is available. The torque and acceleration on the 1.8 version I test drove was a little sluggish but was more than enough when needed to merge in to trafffic or to do a quick overtake when needed. Really hoping they modify the C-HR to have a plug in variant like Kia did with the Niro.
Same! I've had my 2.0L Orange Edition hybrid since July. Brilliant car! And the UK version does boast an 8-way electric driver seat. But I too would definitely appreciate the 360 cam. I think the new 2021 model adds lane assistant to the 2020 model. But a Sunroof or even Moonroof would be useful in brightening up the dark interior. Although I've put in LED light strips to light up the foot wells, they are only effective in evening & night time driving. Plug-in is very high on the wish list! But I think they will add that naturally over time though.
@@GetUrOwnHandle I have contacted Toyota to see if they can add it as an extra option for the parking pack, if it is on the RAV4 in the UK already and available oversea's it wouldn't be any effort for them to offer it on the C-HR

@@GetUrOwnHandle Hi, just had a reply from the product marketing team to say that the 360 camera WILL be a feature in the future, they can't say when but hopefully will be an option soon. Missed ya, Jen. I like toyota hybrids but the CHR is not my cup of tea. 4.3 L/100km? A Camry Hybrid does 4.2! The Yaris X looks OK, but is too expensive. So RAV4 Hybrid if you need the "commanding drive position" or Camry Ascent Sport hybrid for best value (unless you need smaller, then Corolla SEDAN hybrid).
Spot on! My sister owns one Stateside and I've never undestood the appeal. The rear makes me feel claustrophobic as well. Adding dark tint to the windows is pure punishment for driver (visibility) and rear passenger (psychological trauma). The swooping rear door panel tapering up on the window feels like a prison wall awaiting stick figure marks indicating the dreadful hours seated back there. As a whole, the underpowered car is underwhelming to say the least. But since it makes her and CHR fans happy, I say Kudos and happy trails.
With bluetooth my phone never leaves my bag. So, the "strange" little cubby hole is used for my car parking badge. If I need to charge the phone I put it in the cup holder, as it is close to the USB port. These things don't just have one use! Nobody drives my car, so seat adjustment just never happens. You are nit picking for no reason at all. All that safety kit and you're worrying about something that gets adjusted once.
The rear C pillar and rear passenger's comfort is unbelievably bad. The huge blind spot for the driver and claustrophobic rear seats are a huge turn off for me. Sure the car looks funky and modern, but I would never get one. Period.
