When it comes to medicals its fair to point out you can be failed with no way out if you have chronic illnesses/disabilities or need for daily/weekly medication. It's really important to know that and if you do disclose illness status or medication intake can absolutely fail you and fail you for *life* in some instances (things Like HIV status/meds, Lyme disease, chronic illness, ADHD/ADHD medication, anxiety medication. Even psoriasis etc. Are often the first thing flagged) And people need to be aware of it. I.e if it's manageable without you needing to disclose *you can get all your meds in Port etc.* it's better to not disclose if you REALLY want the job
Thank you Lucy for another interesting video. I am seventy two and retired late last year from quantity surveying, no I don’t want to work on a cruise ship, or do anything else! Lol 😂 other than cruising as a paying guest! However, I very much have appreciated the crew on the three ocean cruises we have done so far, their service has been polite, kind and helpful. However, the Viking river cruise crew were very average indeed, which surprised me, all the other things were fantastic, such as the excursions, cruise director and ship upkeep and cleanliness. I will have a Bachelors’s degree in Social Work at the end of this year and as far as I understand, with that degree I can go into HR. Like you said in one of your previous videos, is that I need to have an exit strategy. Thus, my exit strategy would be to gain experience in HR on a cruise, so I don’t have too big of a gap in my CV when I return back to South Africa and want to continue working in that field. What I was wondering is, what is your opinion on this? Do you think it’s worth it to work in HR if I also want to see and explore the world while working on cruise ships, or is it not worth it? Roboman, you ask a great question! I haven't seen Lucy do a video interview with any IT personnel, but I do know there is a need for experienced IT, Admin, and software troubleshooters on-board. Especially with the newer ships and more forward-leaning cruise lines, where every guest is using the ship's app on their phone and every POS device is linked to accounting dept, etc. As for the pay? I have no clue. But, if you're good at this (not just passed the exams, but really good and experienced) I suspect you could get very good pay, although competing globally please understand there are many talented/experienced IT pros in developing nations that work for a fraction of what US professionals get paid. Please research and apply, and let us know. 😀

conditional contract, hey there, i think you have sort of answered this, so sorry for the repeat. signed a conditional contract to join a cruise ship 3 weeks agp. During the interview I was told I would commence working in April to roughly October. April is fast approaching and have emailed very politely ,3times,asking what the next steps are, with no response; is this normal?
I have a question. How early do they ask you, if you want to do another contract? You said you do your contract , then you get 3 months off. Do you have to take the 3 months off? Or can you just stay on the ship, and start another contract?
Jennifer, it depends. LOL 😀 Going by what Lucy has said in other videos, unless you are a total screw-up at work your manager will offer you the opportunity to sign-on to another contract while you're still on-board working your current contract. Most crew wish some time off between contracts, and the average is 6 - 8 weeks off (it is up to you). Some crew have just signed-on to another contract starting right away with only a few days between but that is very rare. And some decide they want more time at home and choose to not sign a new contract right away and simply go home and then make a decision later to re-apply or not (this is I believe what Lucy did at the end of her last contract?). Of course the issues become what job openings they have, on what ships, and when these openings are occurring...so, you DO have to have some flexibility. I'm sure Lucy can give you a more detailed answer based on your specific job/contract/cruise line, etc., but I hope I helped explain it? Good Luck! P.S. BTW, it is rare, but sometimes you'll be asked to "extend" your current contract a month or two longer, this is usually when they have a staffing shortage, etc., and this isn't a new contract, just a short extension.

No, do not do your medical, etc. until instructed to do so by the cruise line or your recruiter directly. Lucy details these procedures in the past 5 or 6 videos here, and in her career guides, have a look and you'll see. As for auto-rejected, it is likely your are applying for jobs that the cruise lines do not hire directly, rather you need to apply to the company contracted for those jobs, and/or apply through a recruitment agency for the nation of your citizenship and/or for the particular job you're seeking. Are you kidding? What is 1000 dolar per month. I cant understand why young and talented people work in cruise jails for 1000 dolar per month! I understand people from undeveloped counturies but most people are from Europe and USA I think. 12 hours a day is like being a slave.
@@GYX2021 I don't know but even in turkey we get 900 USD per month approximately for 8 hours to 10 hours work. Why should I imprison myself in a ship then I will pretend I am having fun for a few hours if they let me see zoos or touristy places. It is not worth for it.

I have been waiting for more than one year to join the cruise ship but I constantly get delayed (whenever the date is close, the assignment vanishes or it gets delayed 3 more months). I have tried to contact the company but they continue telling me the same: Assignments are based on operational needs, i have to wait. It is getting frustrating, you know.
My granddaughter and her boyfriend are 20 and 21 yrs old and American and want to work on a cruise ship to be able to travel. That is the first priority over the amount of money. They want to be together and stay together on the ship since they already live together, What ship and what job do you recommend? They both have tattoos (nothing offensive)
So that surname harding was one of the skaters in the Olympics back in the 1990's that got banned from the Olympics. There is also a road in Indianapolis that used to be named that but they changed it to stage road 37 and I69 now. A person with that name showed up at charity's middle school and highschool I am pretty sure she was related to the skater that got banned. There has been a lot of spiritual crap happened to me.
