- Located about 25 miles from Monument Valley on the Navajo Reservation, Douglas Mesa is a great place to ride highlighted by a spectacular canyon that a smaller version of the Grand Canyon, that was carved out by the San Juan River. There are a myriad of canyon crisscrossing the mesa which is home to a great many wild horses.
Love the landscapes textures , composition .... the rocks , stones and the small bushes and shrubs.... Unique in the whole world 💕 Arizona Colorado USA . Bringing memories of westerns classics....
Beautiful trail, great views!
Another great trail ride, with music ! Someone did really good job ! Thanks
And thank you. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
Awesome!! Magical to ride in the same country as our ancestors. I always feel such a deep rooted connection when riding in the hills of the PNW. I can only imagine how they felt when they first laid eyes on the majesty that is this fine country.
Thanks for the nice ride, I enjoyed it immensely, apart from the woman on the palomino who got most of the video time, horse was struggling to carry her, sitting heavy, she felt she had to keep flicking it along. Poor thing didn't come alive until it got sight of the camp. I'd rather like a mule in that country, they were real steady.
Simply phenomenal! Just wow!
Just plain awesome, once again. I'm still stuck in Tucson, Az. I guess I need to hurry up, to join one of your rides, before I get to old to ride etc.George Kuhn
Hi George. Yeah, you really should do that. Probably do Paria Canyon again next May.
Hey i rember u guys my dad was terrence holiday i was a little boy named tyden i sang for u guys it was fun to bad i could not ride
Tyden, yes I remember you and your dad. He rode a pinto which is seen quite a bit in the video. I have some video of you guys singing that I didn't include in the video you see here, which is just of the rides. Hope you're doing well and are now riding. You should be just about fully grown up by now.
Yes i am 14 now
I like to think that I know my horses. And standing close to the edge of a canyon like that scares the living daylights out of me! One spook away from death...
MetalEngineer ...Spooky country, great horses and not stupid enough to fly off a cliff.
You do not need to get close to the edge.

BEAUTIFUL !!!
Woow. That looks really amazing!!
A great place to ride!
@@traviatablues Any chance to contact the stable somehow? We are really interested in doing a few hours ride in the next weeks in our vacation when we are in USA.
@@metatron2332 I don't believe there is a place to rent horses at Douglas Mesa. Better to go to Monument Valley, which is not far away to do something like that. All the horses you see in this video are privately owned and hauled into this area for a weeks-worth of riding.
@@traviatablues ok thank you for this information👍
That's generally not a place open to the public. you guys must be family friends or somethin? I moved away, but I rode all over that part of the reservation and you guys are seeing trails I never even knew existed
Beautiful ride.
Pure awesome emotion!!!!!! How can I get there?
Douglas Mesa is located in Southeast Utah, a short distance from Monument Valley. It's off of Hwy. 163 on Douglas Mesa Road. From there, you drive for a bit on a paved road, then it turns to dirt where you drive numerous miles to get there, passing a lot of wild horses. This is Navajo land, meaning you will need a Navajo guide to take you in. You should be able to find one on the Internet.

Lindo paisaje megusto mucho
Looks like that apply mule had 3 bells on the tail. Means he’s inexperienced or prone to kicking?
Could you tell me more information about Douglas Mesa horseriding by sending the links here? I wanna do that horseriding in USA!
Nice country
Can you tell me what company this was with and how many hours the tour was?
How long was the ride? I´m really interested in doing this. We are comming from Germany. Me and my wife we will visit this area next weeks and searching for a 4-6 hours ride.
how many mules on that ride?
That fella at 18:34 was seated wrong for climbing that ledge. He should have been up in his stirrups and his weight forward over his pony's neck. Not sitting back like a sack of taters. Young horse didn't know how to handle that. Good way to get you and your horse hurt. Lucky it didn't.
I noticed that as well, poor thing... he was completed laid back 😣 I wish they would give clear instructions on how to behave on the horse during climb up/down... it sometimes feels like these « tours » are pure business and that the horses well-being isn’t counting at all.
@@KidCongoPowersFFS Thank you for subscribing. This group isn't a commercial interest. It's private owners out riding as a horse club. I would be willing to bet most of them own their own horse for the first time while some of them are experienced owners and riders. Horses aren't a possession, they're a lifestyle.
Funny thing is that was my horse😂bc I think my uncle was riding I wasn’t able to ride then but wish I could but the horses and the guy was fine
love the show...but i have got to know --did the horse or rider get hurt when they both fell climbing that one little cliff...????
No, they did not, fortunately. It was a bit scary when it happened, but you can see them shortly after riding along, seemingly no worse for wear.
Not at all. Navajo trail boss. Very experienced rider.
@@maryholiday6496 was that my dad or tido was horse bumblebee
Looks like the rider controlled his fall pretty well but the video cuts before you can tell about the horse
Thank you for sharing this awesome video!! I enjoyed just watching it. The horseback riding tour is so cool. I would like to do it, too. Were they all experienced riders? Or can anyone do it? I'm gong to Monument Valley next month. If you don't mind, could you share which company provided your tour?
Thank you for your comments. I made these videos for people to enjoy. Yes, all the riders are experience riders, riding their own horses. A gentleman named Don Vinson puts on these rides twice a year, along with Monument Valley rides, normally in back to back weeks. Here is the link to t to his website: www.monumentvalleytrailrides.com/docs/aboutus.html
Lindos lugares. Ond e fica esta região? Parabéns pela cavalgada e pelos animais. Feliz ano novo para todos

how do you do a tour like that?
A gentleman named Don Vinson organized this ride. He handles both Monument Valley and Douglas Mesa rides twice a year. You must have your own horse and be able to transport it there on his rides. You can reach his site at: www.monumentvalleytrailrides.com/docs/aboutus.html
I love the first melody. can you tell me the name please
This wonderful piece of music is from an album called "Sun." The name of the song is "Empire of the Angels," and was written by Tom Bergersen.
I've already found it. And I love it
@@traviatablues hello are you the person that film the douglas mesa video if yes I'm trying to contact you I was the main host for the ride thanks
@@terenceholiday9270 Yes, that was me. That was in 2014. I remember you, and that is you, I believe, on the pinto.
We are creating a new website for our trail rides since Don Vinson passed on. We wanted to get your permission to use the video you recorded for the Douglas Mesa trailrides.
When making this video??
2011.
That's alright, boah.
Were horse & rider ok after that spill? It probably looked worse than it was....Loved the scenery, equines & music! Thanks!
Janice, neither horse or rider were hurt. They continued on as you can see in clips taken just afterward.
Thought so, but my vision isn't that great. Glad they're ok!!! Thanks!!
That looked to be a very bad spill for horse and rider...lucky to be ok, and continue the ride. Beautiful country.
Jerry Smith ..the rider was not prepared for the hop up, got unbalanced and dumped, and in that mess the horse stepped back and toppled off the jump-up he'd just negotiated. Shit happens.
Both horse and rider were ok. He was the Navajo trail boss. Very experienced rider.
Great video what disappointing is no one was wearing a helmet

nice
Guns ?
hate horse videos with music... but at least yours wasnt too over the top cheesy and sentimental..usually Im forced to mute them !!
Yes a shame to have to listen with the sound off; I know just you mean. Not everything in life needs a musical soundtrack.
Why oh Why do so many documenters RUIN their videos with annoying music overdubbing. Is their a prejudice by American audiences against natural sounds like hoof falls on dirt and rocky trails, running water, wind through the canyons and trees, creaking saddles, horses snorting etc etc. I either turn off or if the scenery is beautiful enough watch in total silence once ONLY as it is much too frustrating to return for multiple views with the inappropriate accompanying music.
To answer your question, the weather for that ride was not particularly good, with heavy winds just about everyday, meaning it was impossible to get any sound that was worth a damn. That said, I personally find the sounds of the trail to be deathly dull. For me, music is far preferable. I receive far more compliments on music, including the music in this video, that the opposite. Again, to each his own.
And besides, horses can be flatulent and that could be embarrassing to some.
