I served in the 4th Infantry Division from 2001 to 2007. During the first deployment from 2003 to 2004, we were held back because our vehicles were rerouted from Turkey to Kuwait. We watched on TV as the 3rd Infantry Division made their way through to Baghdad. When we got to Kuwait and later entered Iraq from Kuwait, we saw the carnage via burned out vehicles... it was brutal to say the least.
If you want to know more about the early stages of the war and the role the Peshmerga played in winning the war, read The CIA War in Kurdistan by Sam Faddis. It was a great read.
My impression from this whole series is that this whole invasion was such a muck up, that a more capable army would have inflicted heavier losses to the American coalition. It was most likely thrown together within months and then launched before it even finished the preparation phase.
The Iranians were very forgiving of coalition actions at their doorstep, verging on friendly. I'm not saying anyone strayed onto their lawn or even above it but if/when that should happen they would just remind them where they were and ask if they needed water and directions. @@Scout686 The US has done what it could. Its hard to do shit when your already criticized for interfering with foreign wars too much.
Omg Kurds are just like the Avengers !!
Worked with the Peshmerga and Asayish in 2016 they are by far the best locals I've ever worked with. Super professional and motivated, loved working with those guys!
Great video
This needs film about it, and make it Traditionally animated
The onion reference lmaoooo I love that
By insignificant amounts of Ricin and Potassium chloride, you mean a First Aid Kit with Caster Oil right?
We refuse to confirm or deny
Amazing video
What is it with "The Operations Room" and stories about onions in both Iraq wars?
This channel rocks my socks.
Man oh man how badly did we fuck over these allies so badly.
Only 12 minutes late and it was a really good idea to convince big baddy to focus on the North.
Petition to rename channel as The Onion Room
With a bunch of fictitious documentaries
That food truck with the onions reminds me of that last shrek movie where the cook was on the battle plan and lecturing them about being hungry after the attack
Based Kurds, as always.
You don’t know what that means
@@jakemocci3953I know Trump abandoned them and that’s probably why you don’t like them. Sad.
@@Matt-xc6sp I don’t like them because they have close ties to western antifa, and I’m glad trump abandoned them.
@@Matt-xc6sp They support western antifa, therefore, they are the enemy. It’s that simple.
@@Matt-xc6sp They support western antifa, that makes them the enemy.
Please so a segment on Operation Phantom Fury (battle of Fallujah).
wow i knew an SF operator who fought in this battle
Another great video! Thanks.
ps of course there was no chemical factory or WMDs... but let's not dwell on that right?
I have to say hearing that the Kurdish forces basically just charged stuff made me wince. Learning that it actually worked is crazy.
This whole story has everything a 80s/90s action flick needs. Amazing, and never under estimate what a food truck can do for your mission!! 😅
What program are you using to make these awesome videos
My impression from this whole series is that this whole invasion was such a muck up, that a more capable army would have inflicted heavier losses to the American coalition. It was most likely thrown together within months and then launched before it even finished the preparation phase.
You should do a video about Operation Kayla Mueller
SFG just stands for special forces group. Also has an (A) designating it as an airborne unit.
The Iranians were very forgiving of coalition actions at their doorstep, verging on friendly. I'm not saying anyone strayed onto their lawn or even above it but if/when that should happen they would just remind them where they were and ask if they needed water and directions. Pretty cool guys and not what you would imagine.
Quick shout-out for the Brits involved in this, including the RAF pilot flying one of the Harley formation MC-130s. He had an interesting night.
So they were just observing?
Its so awful how the Kurdish people have been treated after all they did. America should be ashamed
Azadi bo Kurdistan!
I think this lay the groundwork for later kurds fighting against ISIS with US support. i also heard turkey did not like that
Great content as always man, hope the turks dont give you a hard time for putting the name "kurd" in your content. keep up the great work
@The Operations Room
You called it "A--Day" on the 21st of March. I remember that term from the news but in US that name A-Day was not used anymore.
Interesting, and somehow reassuring to hear that, bc no one I know remembers that term. It may have been conflated w "shock and awe" and news just dumbed it down again.
Or Def Dept said hey, don't talk about that so loud - to the news. Odd to me that US doesn't know that term on a widespread basis
I wonder if this would become a movie like 12 Men Strong.
Imagine how much fuel was required for one of these scenarios to play out, let alone metals mined and refined.
Absolutely nuts.
What’s the title of the background music?
Please do operation Urgent Fury
AMAZING
One of my uncles fought in this war, this is very intresting to know what happened in Iraq.
so awesome to finally see someone give a in depth detailed look into the war on terror as a american who loves history i find it baffling how little i actually know about it despite trying to find as much as i could
read - ONE GREEN BERET by Mark Giaconia
Please make a video about Loyce Edward Dean.
Theres a fantastic book about the CIA officers on the ground spent months on the ground coordinating all this “The CIA War In Kurdistan”
Im not an expert, but I’m pretty sure “find an exploit in the enemy’s defenses and bum rush” is supposed to also be soviet army doctrine as well. It’s cool to see if it’s used properly it’s actually effective.
14:44 nice callback to the onions again lmao
We must never forget the Kurds
I love how even in war the Kurds have a food truck.
‘…kebabs & lashings of onions’
No ginger beer??
6:50 yellow and red lines looks weird
There were 7 little flying planes in the initial graphic…. not 6. lol Just sayin’. Amazing video as per usual though.
