When I was young I was drawn to those whining generators and relays. To this day, I wish I had pursued a career as a mechanic. They are yet another modern marvel.
A very interesting geared traction system with the selector tape, running over the driven sheave. The Otis installations I have previously viewed with geared/gear-less pie plate floor selectors have the pulley for the selector tape at the base of the selector and drive chain. I see these were DC traction with the MG set communicator spinning.
kansasthunderman1 Most of these low-rise geared installations do / did that. It just acts as a geometric deflector for the tape to get it to that little pie plate selector inside the controller. The tape will slip over the hoist sheave with ease, in fact on every stop the tape will wiggle back and forth a little bit over the hoist sheave. This installation is all about being as compact as possible given the technology available at the time.
Sorry, it is deliberately anonymous since the property owner has not consented. I chose this installation particularly because the location is so ambiguous, there are many installations like this one.

Great units when they are maintained
This is the first one I've seen with the selector tape running over the main sheave.

Truly fascinating.
The average rider never knew what went on up there....fascinated from an early age....today's machine room...is a bore....Great photography and audio!
Where was this one?

How old are these and what fixtures do these have?
This is a 1970s installation in Canada. It has been a long time since I was there but even then I'm pretty sure the fixtures were not the originals.
Pie plate selector..
