    I like the fact that you get to the point. secondly you simplify the project. great job!!!!! you are better than any teacher I have ever had in electronics. I am 50 years old. again thank you. ok a job to do....... build a tube transmitter.

      +Richard rheam Thanks for the compliment. I have lots of leftover tubes, and other parts, so I can definitely make a time transmitter. Those are better because they can put out more watts!

      We’ve got a good tech and instructor in the making here. I was a lad too learning electronics from an WWII wounded VET. At first Inwas his arms and legs, but as he worked he would explain to me what I was doing. He also assigned reading homework. All pf this for 59 cents an hour to boot.

    Cool vid Sid. I was amazed when I learnt that the 555 could switch at RF. Well done. And I like the typewriter at the beginning.

    I have been trying some stuff with a HF chip and transmitting data on 2.4ghz. Your description of harmonics was very useful, for some reason I could never understand harmonics until now.

  • @bachkhoa1975
    @bachkhoa1975 8 месяцев назад +1

    Changing the upper trigger threshold (with audio voltage) via pin 5 changes only high output duration of the 555 timer, resulting in changing both its duty cycle and frequency. The output amplitude is still the same (pretty much 0 V to PS voltage). What you might have heard on an AM radio was at best noises from a pulse-width modulation simulating AM. Using values of Ra, Rb, and C (look up 555 data sheet), your max frequency is roughly 480 KHz so it’s not even in the AM band. Hook up your transmitter output to a scope or a spectrum analyzer and show how your AM output looks like!

  • @CZghost

    You can clean the carrier wave out a little bit by adding a band pass filter between pin 3 and antenna. This will actually sound a little bit more like a normal AM radio station. Normal AM station has 8 kHz bandwidth around carrier wave, which leaves mono sound in up to 4.5 kHz - not very much, but still suitable for music playback. Not talking about speech... That way you won't spit out junky harmonics and your transmitter will work well. However, you probably should make transmitter in another AM band that's not used by broadcast, if you want to transmit to a long distance (legally, of course).

    Well done sir! I would have liked to have seen the waveforms. I’ll do that when I build the circuit. In My circuit I would like to try a 455 Kilohertz crystal generated signal for doing AM IF alignment. I recognize your tube radio, a GE model with a Techron clock I believe. Oh by the way I started out in this field when I was about 12 years old working with only tube circuits. Transistors although they had been invented were not economically available to experimenters until about 1958. Good job my lad!

    Building AM xmit for same reason, but why all the noise? And what do you have to do to get rid of it?

    • @TannerTech
      @TannerTech  3 года назад

      The noise is partially from the fact that I am using a 555 timer as the carrier wave(lots of harmonics) and the solar panels on the roof with noisy(electromagnetically speaking) inverters

    The simple am transmitter output now needs to be connected to a fet gate then a tuned circuit connected to the drain,, source to ground , you will have a nice sine wave across the coil your old radio will like your transmitter.

    Very informative. i would like to know how to change frequency of a small AM crystal controlled transmitter.

    • @teku3985
      @teku3985 4 года назад

      An AM crystal controlled transmitter? I’m assuming you mean that you are using a Quartz Crystal Oscillator. Anyway, it is impossible to change the frequency using a crystal oscillator because most of not all of the oscillators are made at a specific frequency and cannot be changed.

    I'm trying to make a transmitter circuit and a receiver circuit that will control the motors in a Remote Control Boat. But I can't find enough information online/google. Does anyone have the schematics for a transmitter circuit? I'm trying to build it as low level as possible so I will be soldering transistors and stuff. It will be a learning project for me. I would appreciate any information on the subject. I am an beginner in electronics with some experience reading schematics and I know a little about transistors, resistors, capacitors.

      There are two 10nF capacitors conneced to pin-5. One goes to ground, the other goes to audio L-and/or-R. Audio common/shield goes to pin-1/ground.
