+Nicole Robinson my kids loved it too! and what's not to love about dinosaurs right? I think every child goes through a dino faze! mine was "littlefood" from the land before time!
What a great tutorial and I love your exuberance and genuine personality; so refreshing! I'm making a "glow in the dark" cake for my niece's birthday next week and your video has given me some great ideas! Thank you!
Under your supplies list you used Celery Green disco dust and white disco dust. I'm not finding "celery" green...but a ton of other greens. Short of buying them all to test out, what green would be a good alternative? Or maybe you can give me a shot of the label on the green to get the right one? I wonder if all light colored luster dusts glow??? Hmm I'm doing a Ghostbusters themed cake in May that is for a glow in the dark party...I need this kind of glow! 😁
+lalor0506 friend oh good question! I found this amzn.to/1WwryuA but what I need to do is heat to the store where I bought mine with my black light and test a bunch of colors for you guys, I'll put that on my to do list for next week!
At first: This is so awesome! I'am searching so Long for a good Idea how to let my fondant glow under black light and thats so cool! And twince: I'am from Germany and I didnt understand the part with the Disco dust:/ did you mixed with the B2 and the Tonic water? And at least one more subscriber youre so cool^-^
Love this cake and want to make it for my sons birthday in June. Luckily I have been able to find 'disco dust' in Australia but I am wondering if you could tell me the name of the two dust colours as there are several options for green and white dusts. P.s. Awesome creation I will be coming to your channel for many more birthday cake inspiration ideas as my kids celebrate more birthdays.
how are you gonna eat the cake if it isnt using an edible glitter ? but i love the idea of a glow in the dark cake ... btw i am new here :) and loving your channel already
personally eating disco dust doesn't bother me - it's just that some people make a huge deal over it. it won't make you sick, it will just pass through, and you use so little I wouldn't give it another thought. but that's me
New subscriber! Almost equally new at caking, but I'm super excited to push my artistic limits by expanding them into the full world! That said, I love your approach to making videos, your personality is highly entertaining, and as a new caker, my first weird request was a glow in the dark cake....luckily, to be used at a blacklight bowling party, so this approach is exactly what I needed. That said, I have to ask you...I've already been attacked for making a cake using disco dust because people (in the cake world) say that it's exactly the same as sprinkling craft glitter all over your cake. I wondered if you have encountered this and if so, how do you address it? That said, I have a question here...your mixed white icing, vodka, and electric blue, for the splatter...seems to be glowing under the black light as well as the disco dust . Am I not understanding that correctly? Did you end up not using the tonic water or vitamin B at all? I wonder how they would do mixed into the icing. Or with powdered sugar. Sorry for the length of this.
I couldn't get the tonic water or vitamin B to be concentrated enough that it ever worked. mixing it with things only made it worse. the one thing i saw work online was when they used it to make jello and dipped cupcakes in the gelatin mixture over and over again creating a thick jello layer, even then it was pretty weak. the reason the splatter looks like it's glowing is because I brushed a thin layer of the disco dust on the cake in those same areas There is a cake boss episode where he does a glow in the dark cake with "edible glow in the dark body paint" - doesn't exist - he clearly used glow in the dark body paint - not edible. but they claimed it was edible for TV. Personally I've never been attacked for it. I just tell whomever I make the cake for that disco dust is for decoration purposes and isn't FDA approved as edible. then they can eat it or peel it off - whichever they prefer. Personally I eat dessert with disco dust on it all the time - but I have kids so I ingest more germs than non toxic dust so I don't even worry about it.
Haha! I saw that episode as well when researching this dark cake request and after watching it, I searched high and low. You're completely right. There's no such product. Anyhow, I DID, right after watching this video, find a product called Glochi. It's a natural powdered or liquid food additive that can be added to fondant, buttercream, and apparently, even light colored cake batter to make it black light reactive. I ordered some today and if it works out, I'll let you know! By the way, I think this cake turned out killer!! And I love the black and two shades of blue marbling. Good call. I was going to use solid black, but I really like this idea for some great added dimension! Great work!
+Hairani Yaakop you can mix it with any clear alcohol, like clear vanilla, or clear almond extract. the alcohol makes it liquid enough to paint with, but then evaporates quickly leaving just the edible paint behind without being too wet and eating away at the fondant
Am I the only one who thinks that glow in the dark and glow under black light aren't exactly the same thing? Similar? Still kinda misleading... I love black light though I wish I could have a black light themed room.
+Madison Shayy I'm sorry you feel that way, I did quite a bit of searching before deciding to title it that way, and since people search for it interchangeably I just titled it the best way I thought it could be found in a search.
+Megan Romero what +miranda tula said... the alcohol in the vodka evaporates and eats a bit of the fondant leaving a nice tacky surface that help the fondant stick to fondant really well. Water doesn't do that and it won't stick the same way. You can use almond extract or clear vanilla instead (both are basically vodka though)
not every disco dust glows under blacklight but I picked ones that did, I just dabbed it over the wet "paint" cause I didn't want to risk dulling it down with mixing it in
I don't even understand how you are not extremely popular I love this channel
+Morgan Cote I appreciate that, trust me I'm working on it

Hi i would like to know a tutorials that explain how to mix the color and tonic water si as to glow a fondant
+Jane Samy like I say in the video the tonic water is too thin and doesn't glow on fondant, thats why I had to switch to the powder
+Ardalis:3 nope, I painted the cake and using a dry brush dabbed the dust into the wet sections
+Ashlee Marie Cakes So its only the dust? ok thank you^-^
+Ardalis:3 yup, I just used the dust!
Love your idea and the cake, I have a question do you mix the disco dust with the tonic water?

My store has 5 different shades of green. What color disco dust did you use?
not all colors glow so I took my black light to the store to test them before buying one

thanks! glad you like the dimension! it's subtle with that much black but I like it. and yes let me know how the glochi turns out!
can u use something else instead of vodka for the splatters
+Hairani Yaakop you can mix it with any clear alcohol, like clear vanilla, or clear almond extract. the alcohol makes it liquid enough to paint with, but then evaporates quickly leaving just the edible paint behind without being too wet and eating away at the fondant
Awesome Cake! Jackson wants to suggest a Sanjay's Super Hero's cake. 😍
+JackAttack oh good idea! Sanjay was seriously such a cute short movie
omg do you deliver cakes?? my son has a birthday in january and he would go bonkers if he had a cake like this
+dalivette serrano I do sell cakes in Salt Lake City, but not copyrighted characters, thus the tutorial so people can make their own!
+Ashlee Marie Cakes aw that sucks im in nyc 😭😭😭
+dalivette serrano Sorry!
+Ashlee Marie Cakes hey its okay lol i love your work though
+dalivette serrano thank you so much!
Am I the only one who thinks that glow in the dark and glow under black light aren't exactly the same thing? Similar? Still kinda misleading... I love black light though I wish I could have a black light themed room.
Its not glow in the dark unless it glows without any light it annoys me when people say they're the same.
+Madison Shayy I'm sorry you feel that way, I did quite a bit of searching before deciding to title it that way, and since people search for it interchangeably I just titled it the best way I thought it could be found in a search.
+Sarah w i totally understand and your right they aren't the same, but most people search for them the same way,
Even your hair glows in the dark
haha not quite but it is bright:)
Instead of vodka, can you add water?
The alcohol in the vodka will evaporate once it dries
+Megan Romero what +miranda tula said... the alcohol in the vodka evaporates and eats a bit of the fondant leaving a nice tacky surface that help the fondant stick to fondant really well. Water doesn't do that and it won't stick the same way. You can use almond extract or clear vanilla instead (both are basically vodka though)
why would you put something that you are not supposed to eat on something everyone eats(cake). wat the point
Well it is easy to peel off with the fondant and I think the glow in the dark effect is worth it
my cake came out good not sure if. it. glew in the dark the customer never told me if it did or didn't lol
well if they didn't complain that's a good thing, right!
you didn't have to mix the disco dust with anything to get it to glow? just dab it on
not every disco dust glows under blacklight but I picked ones that did, I just dabbed it over the wet "paint" cause I didn't want to risk dulling it down with mixing it in
thank you for responding I have to make this tonight. hopefully I got the right dust😕
how did it go? I took a mini blacklight with me when I went shopping for the dusts to make sure, I hope this worked for you!
