Lakers gave a low ball offer for Hurley. In order for Hurley to leave Uconn the Lakers needed to offer 20 million a year. NBA is longer season, more travel, higher cost of living in LA vs Rural Connecticut and the taxes owed to the governments are higher. If the Lakers wanted Hurley they needed to be in the 18-20 million range. Plus the Lakers fire their headcoach regularly so Dan could be out on the street in a couple years. At Uconn he has a position for Life.

None of this "negotiation" was ever real. This was always a plot to get the Lakers all over the headlines and in the news cycle on the eve of the NBA's marquee product, the Finals, get Hurley a fat raise and to develop a bond between the best coach/talent evaluator/talent developer in college and the Lakers franchise.
Personally I'd rather be in Connecticut coaching college ball , at the top of the sport. The lifestyle and the college game are just more appealing to me. That's just me, but im happy he's staying. College basketball is better with him coaching. Several great football coaches have departed for the nfl and more will undoubtedly leave due to the current state of affairs. Hopefully the whole transfer/ nil situation is stabilized sooner than later.

As a lifetime Uconn fan, i am SOOOOO happy he is staying. I know the NCAA has the NIL now and all this BS, but i cant imagine its as bad as dealing with coaching in the NBA. Id have to imagine the ego's are there in either league, but im sure its a bit easier in college. He has built something here and he is loved here.
