It's almost like a Liszt piano transcription of any orchestral work. Trying to transcribe the orchestra to a piano piece and playing it is pretty difficult.
As an avid music listener, I can easily say that Yuja Wang is the best pianist in the scene in terms of rhythmic capabilities. I have seen no other as competent as Yuja Wang in this realm. Since, the modern piano is a rhythm instrument in its origins, she is really aware of the fact that this instrument should be played in this respect. Her performance on one and only Stravinsky’s Petruschka’s Russian Dance is simply enchanting and highly unique. Most likely, his father affected her feelings of rhythm very much, inasmuch as he is a concert percussionist. I consider Yuja Wang as my favorite classical pianist in the world right now. I admire her every work. Such a versatile musician. Influential. I want to thank Ms. Yang for everything she did for the cultural heritage of music. I hope I can meet her one day. Long story short, she is one of the best pianists I have ever listened throughout the entire music history. And few of the bests, maybe the best, in terms of rhythmic performance.
One hundred years later Stravinsky still feels like a spearhead for Music. But would that be possible without excellent interpreters like Yuja Wang? Russian Music fits her so well.
Historically only a very limited number of pianists successfully become great orchestral conductors. Listening to Yujia's Petrushka, you can immediately recognize her potential on becoming a great orchestral conductor. She managed different voices and singing lines, rhythm and tempo all with magic and wonders. She is incredible!
I cannot believe this...what a superb performance it is!!! I've never imagined that Petrushka can be played like this! And she just made a deep bow to the audience and walked directly away after playing...to take it so easy!
Just SO good ! Here I am, its past midnight, seen Yuja play this same music many times before, yet at the end......I join in with the Audience and CLAP !! What else can you do ? Its the effect Yuja Wang has on me !
I'm a ballet dancer and have watched the ballet "Petrouchka" many times, but never before have I listened to this song without it being danced to, how ever this pianist puts such feeling into her hard work well playing such a difficult song, that I can honestly say it is exciting and entertaining in itself! well done Yuja Wang:)
Yuja is extraordinary in this kind of music, even outstanding yes ! You can feel the joy and the exhilaration in the way she moves and smiles and concentrates ! YUja YOU are Unique !
How can anyone denigrate this performance. She is one of the really great pianists who have reach the height of human achievement. Yuji, Alice Sara Ott, Jung Lin, Maksim Mrvica - these greats have no peers.
This fabulous young woman is in the top one tenth of one percent of all pianists worldwide. Yuja is beyond incredible. I have always loved how at 1'35" there are echoes of Bartok.
Holy shit stravinsky was incredible. Just outstanding. I can't get my head around it. How the fuck did he write this stuff? I wish he was alive, I could ask him then. Apparently he and Huxley used to hold "avant garde lunches" in los angeles in the 40s. On the one hand you have incredible performing talent and then on the other hand you have the guys who actually wrote this shit....it's insane.
I agree -- absolutely amazing & nearly unbelievable - here, both artist and composer. I am a LIcensed Psychologist and considered writing a psychobiographical piece about the genius that was/is Stravinsky... but I think he denied any "meaning" to his music. I'll try to find the time to re-visit....
This and Cziffra's Bumblebee. This entire concert must have been astounding to witness in person. All while having to look through those bangs too! 😂❤️ Love Yuja! She is an inspiration and an absolute queen of the piano!
Oh. My. GOODNESS. This is so fun... and then the tiny slooooow moment is beautiful... and her hands are like lightning! And the precision! Oooh, this is a girl to watch for, all right.
She makes the piano version more orchestral than the version for orchestra!!! Stravinsky, is watching. And he is smiling! And laughing!!!! And in his broken English, with his Russian, French, accent...very goooood!!!!
I am an official spokesperson for Yuja Wang, and she has asked me to communicate to you brave champions that she and Jung Lin have resolved to double up on whichever one of you proves to have the most virile and robust youtube presence. Both pianists dearly love their fans and want to make YOU live the dream while they're still both young and beautiful. Red Bull will be sponsoring this competition. Good luck!
This piece of Stravinsky is not easy to interpret and yet here it is played with great virtuosity combined with great sensitivity and sense of dance. Congratulations Yuja Wang, even though Stravinsky is not my preferred Russian composer, I can only admire your performance!
Velocidad y precision: dos terminos usualmente en pugna en la vida de un pianista , encuentran en esta pianista-y en esta particular pieza-un acercamiento envidiable. Felicitaciones Yuja.
I’m literally crying right now, I just cannot seem to get an idea to draw based on this that I’ve watched. I have no talent when it comes to drawing and as much as I want to learn, I suck at it 😭😭 and we can’t look at google too this is soooo-
Let's just say at this level of playing with virtuoso pianists they all bring something to the plate that is far better than most of us can do...we can quibble about what we think is 'best' later...
Well Yuja, what can I say to adequately express how incredible this performance was? Stupendous, fantastic, mindboggling.. Well that doesn't quite do it but perhaps a galaxy of stars from me will go close. Your are simply amazing. It must have taken an age for you to get that right. Congratulations. Love Lalita
She's incredible. Talented asian women like Yuja Wang make me doubt my atheism. Attractive, skilled and graceful asian women are truly god's gift to man kind.

This is by anyones standards an excellent performance of a difficult piece, clearly titled Stravinsky Petrushka. And yet still 20-something people dislike it. What did they expect? Way too much negativity out there.
Very nice take on Stravinsky's piano version of "Petrushka"! Not too fast at all (though certainly no need to go any faster). Very invigorating performance. Compares very favorably with Pollini's performance of this movement. Simply ignore others who criticize you on this forum. They only reveal that they wish they had half of your talent, both technical and interpretive. Thanks for sharing!
I saw her presentation on a tv channel from my country and thanks to her I fell in love with Stravinsky's work, also Nodame Cantabile thought me a lot of things for classical music and I can kinda thank them to introduce me to classic music and make interested in strings instruments like violin or chelo, but also I can TOTALLY thank Kanon Wakeshima to introduce me to chelo as well 💜💜💜
Si les gens qui critiquent négativement cette artiste surdouée étaient capables de jouer à au moins 50% de ses capacités, ce seraient déjà des grands pianistes! Should those who criticize negatively this exceptional artist be able to play at least 50% as well as she does, they would be some great pianists!
I just heard a pianist called Eduardo Fernandez play this live in Mumbai a week ago. Brilliant, but not a patch on Yuja Wang. She is the only human to have ever lived besides Mozart, Einstein and Shakesphere who we can call a GENIUS.
Fantastic! The Petrushka transcription is reckoned to be one of THE most technically challenging works for the piano. She breezed through it!
It's almost like a Liszt piano transcription of any orchestral work. Trying to transcribe the orchestra to a piano piece and playing it is pretty difficult.

A brilliant performance. Wang has dynamism in her hands that make resonate Stravinsky with vigor, expressive emotion, and gracefulness.
