Just remove the bolts from the skinny end so it only drains from one portion then wait ti most of it drains.I added a small plastic wedge to make it drain a little quicker. When it stops dripping then remove the pan. Adding sealant is not necessary with e gasket that has the metal frame in it.The gasket is reusable. Dont over tighten the bolts.89 inch pounds in a staggered pattern. Never had a problem.
This is the best video I have seen for this procedure so far ! I have been watching these trying to figure out how to do this myself. You make it look very easy which I am sure it is not. What is the proper Trans fluid for 2010 HHR ?
that's for transmissions with like 200k on them with original fluid. Removing the grit in the old fluid can cause the trans to slip. It's better to replace the fluid like every 50 to 100k and you won't run into this issue.
Did you have the engine running when you pulled the drain plug out and filled the transmission? Also one thing my dad used to do and please don’t diss my dad, he used to punch a small hole into the transmission pan let it drain, take it out and clean it hammer the hole flat and then bronze the hole closed. It always worked and never leaked ever.
I pulled a spec sheet and filled it. Some times I cut the car off so people can hear me better. We have been in automotive for 86 years and back in the day that’s how the all did it, including my dad.
Exactly, in my fathers garage business I would pull out the tranny‘s and give them to my dad he would rebuild them and I would install them back in the car, but these HHRs I still don’t know when you’re filling it with that plug out does the motor have to be running in park or shut off until it flows out of the hole?
Ahhhh...... Just lovely. My fill port's plug is a rubber plug, just like you'd find in a floorboard. (& hole's not threaded) Wish me luck on filter change. I'm not sure what else will not be to spec.s for this vehicle or others. LMAO... not
@@AutoRepairTips757 Why would it not be safe to do this? My hhr same mileage transmission just quit working so I was going to try this. Should I not??
@@AutoRepairTips757 hey I have 120000 miles and it's never been changed was going to try this today but now this guy's comment has me questioning it. Should I not attempt this?
I have a 2008 HHR LT 182,780 miles never changed transmission fluid. I had it sitting for 5 years because it needed BCM and TCM plus other electrical repairs. It’s running fine now but should I change my Transmission Fluid?????@AutoRepairTips757
Because being level is only required to refill it; why not raise the front only, loosen the back of the pan to let out enough fluid to make it more manageable, then proceed as shown?
Thank you very much. Great job on the explanation.

Thanks when I get into work tomorrow I’ll look it up for you
Add a drain plug n the pan
Awesome vid !
Thanks!
Great info. Thank you, sir.
glade it helped
Crazy...I was straight told by Precision Auto that changing my transmission could destroy my transmission. Thanks for this video.

And definitely don’t flush…
Sp just top off the fluid what of the wrong was added at one point 😅

And how much fluid did the HHR take? Mine is the 2.4 LT, 2009 model automatic Thank you for all your help
email me and i will send you the procedure
Can you use one of those siphon pumps like we use on simple gearbox, differential, etc, to take out the old fluid? Would be much cleaner.
Thank you

I have a 2007 with a hard shif from first to second should i try filter i have 186000 miles if i do should i reuse old fluid
Great video guys, I have a question, how much fluid you added? 6 quarts of oil?
So that ticking noise is normal?
Just a suggestion, let one side down and let it drain then take the rest of the bolts out
Thnaks for the video
No problem I hope that was helpful
manual or automatic transmission? what transmission fluid did you use in this vehicle?, thanks
I’ll check
@@AutoRepairTips757Still waiting for a response..
Dextron 6 preferably the one the has the Dexron GM approved label. I try to avoid multi vehicle transmission fluids.
Fun fact the pan gasket on this transmission are reuseable.
😮😮😮😮
How many quarts of fluid do I need when I change the filter 🙂
How long does this whole process take?
If you take your time, you can probably do it in about an hour
@@AutoRepairTips757 thank you
You could leave the car leaning to 1 side to localize the drainage then level the car before adding fluid.
So.. the transmission oil's never been changed on my HHR. it's at around 120k miles... Should I still change it?
are you having any problems ?
I was think of doing this on my hhr, but it has 125,000 miles on it. Fluid was never changed. I wonder if it is safe to do this?
What does the fluid look like

Question on these hhr's, is dropping the transmission pan the only way to drain the transfluid on them or is there a drain plug underneath as well?
I don’t remember seeing one on that one
It is a sealed transmission - no drain plug.
You can order a transmission pan online that comes with a drain plug installed.
@@MrMjrobI might order the DORMAN 265809 pan. I wonder why Chevy didn’t install a drain plug.
Do it clean the way my boss did when I was a new guy... let the new guy do it 😀

Swimming pool from dollar general
is this the 2.2?
i do not remember Sory
💪😎🇺🇲
If you put that car at an angle on a Jack to take the pan off you get all of the fluid out easily with no mess. Lol
Everything looks good except your seat belt
Wow. What an absolutely HORRIBLE design! Thank you for showing me how terrible HHRs are.
Thanks for the view
Why is there not a drain plug on these cars, it's so stupid that Chevy did this it makes a mess and spills all over.
Very dumb design for sure. Good car though.
It's supposed to be a "sealed" transmission. The manual transmission is the same way.
Mwah ha ha ha ha
I knew it, most 4-banger trannies are sealed.
