That is going to be one gorgeous little instrument. I’m really humbled by the fact that you take time to watch my channel. I’ll be anxious to see how this project turns out.
Hi Jerry I've got a smaller bronze version of your folding magnifier. I believe that they were made in Germany and it's at least 150 years old. The lens is the finest magnifying optic I have ever seen, and considering that they were probably ground by hand, makes them all the more amazing. It had been my Great Grandad's (1870s) all the way down to me and was carried by my Grandad in the trenches of WWI, as we came across it with his rifle cleaning kit and small pieces of carved, shell case brass. Sorry for going off topic, but I am really enjoying this Mandolin build. Best wishes Rich in Oxford UK. 😊👍
Great job Jerry, the mandolin looks stunning cant wait to hear her sing. Peace and love fromBonny Scotland.

For some reason, I've always enjoyed doing binding. It IS tedious, but somehow very rewarding as well. (Equally strange, I hate doing binding repairs. Go figure....) Very nice work, Jerry!
Jerry, Musicman guitars is now using liquid binding. There is a video showing how they do it.. it is amazing. Saves a lot of time and money during the manufacturing process
Esslinger and Stuller are probably the biggest jewelry tool supply houses. They are on the web. I know Stuller has there catalogs on line. Im a master jeweler btw.
That burr tool often goes by the SN designation so a quick Google search with SN burr will give you all sorts of options. I use them all the time for my RC cars. Others have pointed out the Dremel model 116 as well.
Great job my friend. That will be one beautiful instrument when you are done. The customer should be proud of it. I truly hope you have a Blessed Thanksgiving.
Hey, jewelry tool supply houses have every shaped "burr" there is. Including your dove trail shorted one. I'll look up my catalogues tonight. You might want to look at the "graver sets" too.
Hi ! You ask why they sell that white plastic material for the point protectors ... do you know why, ... because you're willing to buy ... that's why ;-)) I really like your patience way of working ... wish I had the same ability. I'm enjoying your videos and hope they'll give me the courage to try repair some of my own guitars. Very nice and thx for sharing showing your skills and tool here !
Hi Jerry I've been chomping at the bit here I was choked you needed a long bit to bore a hole the other day, Well our postal workers are on strike yet plus Christmas gifts it'll be a month before you get it, But I believe I have a bit like your looking for, The crown on it is it round or flat? And what size 1/4" or 3/8"
Just a question about the binding. Can you use leather lace for binding on a stringed instrument? If you can you will probably say something about thickness and width they make a table top leather lacing machine, and skiver AKA splitter, shaver & burnisher. If it wouldn't interfere with the caustic properties.
hey jerry great work flawless joints on your binding ...bravo...im actually in the process of a guitar build an want to bind the guitar an want to know your opinions on wood binding an are there any woods u can use for this other than your standard maple , rosewood an ebony ? is softwood used in binding or only purfling ?an do you have a method for soaking wood binding for prepping for bending?...im looking at it asthetically because its not a acoustic an is not structure in anyway ..
Wonderful job Jerry as usual. I was just wondering how those bindings hold in the passing times, do you think those would also retract as the celluloid binding does on old guitars ? Does some glue would be better than others on the long run ? (years of course)
Jerry, binding is my least favorite thing and I'm just doing an occasional guitar. All that scroll and little pointy parts. Aarrrrrrhhhhhhhhh!!! Looking veru good sir.
Mr Rosa, can i bother you to make me that same modification for the dremel tool , my brother don't use it because, you know why,, i will be cutting my guitar for binding soon and would love to use that same setup.

Your 'magnifying glass' is a Linen Tester. I used to use one for camera ready artwork back in the 80's.

Always a great pleasure to see a master craftsman at work! My Sunday night is not complete without getting to watch a RSW video...thanx Jerry!!
Another great video on binding, I try to soak up as much information I can. One day I'll have to give it a try, but not on a mandolin! Thanks.
Love the rose at the back, even without coloring, just as an embossing...
Jerry! Your workshop is haunted! At 9:36 the mandolin moves without you touching it!!
ha ha ha
Always a good learning experience watching this channel even though I am not a Luthier. Gives me great appreciation for the craft.
Nice work Jerry...Hope the next video is out soon...Keep em a coming...

Try Duco Cement. A friend of mine has made 75+ mandolins and that it what he uses for bindings. I used it on the mando I built and it works great!
Looking good Jerry. I've never installed binding. Looks like tedious, yet rewarding work. Looking forward to the next one!

Amazon.com - inverted cone deburring cutter. Their generally used by tool & dye machinist's in machine shops
Jerry have you ever tried bone or antler on those points? Your videos are the best, you should just have a live cam for when you’re in the shop.
Yes I've used it fairly often. It's a little harder to work with because most of the time you can't find a completely solid piece
You have patients of a saint gerry how your fingers don't end up in knots I don't know well done 6 hours wow well done looks the bees knees
Thanks for another cool video. You teach so much.

I guess you could. I don't think I would do that.

I don't really have much to go on on the wood binding. I've only done it once or twice myself.
Wonderful job Jerry as usual. I was just wondering how those bindings hold in the passing times, do you think those would also retract as the celluloid binding does on old guitars ? Does some glue would be better than others on the long run ? (years of course)

@@RosaStringWorks thank you, i did find one that's been upgraded on ebay, thanks for the insight into better tooling ideas .
Have you ever tried to attach the binding with acetone instead of glue.
I know some people do that. But I don't have much faith in that.
Just wondering . Great work thought please keep the videos coming.
I can hear the instrument amplifying the sound of your fingers brushing the surface.

You'd think they'd come up with a more stable product than celluloid that has the same working properties.
cream celluloid binding ??
I have set fire to it once with a heat gun, what a surprise that was. Lol
