Off To The Races live sounds different because it's a difficult song to sing as one full song. The studio version has vocal tracks that are added at certain parts of the song where it's normally and understandably difficult to transition easily into different notes.
The reason she can do it on the studio version is because she does in sections with several takes. This fucking impressive for a live performance. My favourite song of hers and I hope to see it live someday.

I actually love the fact that she doesn't "play it safe" and record songs that are easy to sing with the usual crescendo with each refrain like most of the acclaimed "screamers" do. her songs r tough to sing yet she doesn't hide behind voice overs. In fact i believe the imperfections add to the uniqueness of her performances because they r totally in line with the content of her songs.
Honestly my favorite performance of this song from the ones I've heard on youtube so far. The raw, unpolished nature of it makes the lyrics all the more emotional and profoundly beautiful. After listening to how she sings Off To The Races live, I can't go back to the studio version. There's so much more flair and fun in the live performances. I love it so much and I love you, Lana del Rey, for writing such amazing pieces of music. I'm utterly gagged anytime I sit down and listen to her because how can one person create such a diverse range of music that is so entirely ubiquitous and yet most if not all of them sound so pleasing? Every few months I find a new album of hers to obsess over because it's honestly just a matter of time before I begin to like a song I was not fond of previously. I feel like I grow into the songs like growing into a too-big sweater. You are incredible.
And the other things is that NO ONE besides Lana could get away with singing her songs, it just wouldn't feel right. Oh, and she's the biggest sweetheart.
I noticed that she used footage from both lolita movies in the background, which to me shows that there’s a huge link between this song and Lolita. I don’t think Lana has ever spoken up about Lolita, it would be very interesting to know more about her relationship with the book!
so what if she messes up? she plays it off like it's nothing. so what if she doesn't sing it like it is on the album? it's probably hard on her voice going from such low ranges to high ranges.

Guess its why tour is cancelled now. She needs to get herself together cause I think she has potential to be artist of the decade and if she doesnt it will break my heart.

I completely agree with you! I think she is incredibly talented. But a complex arrangement of the song is not an excuse for a bad performance. And it's a shame cause this is probably one of her most awesome songs! She needs to improve on her performances! Maybe change the tempo or the key so she can sing this song live!

Actually she is perfect live and she always sounds good live,sometimes even better than on the cd. But I can admit this is not very good, that's because it's a reaally hard song to sing live,she tries her best though
