The De Vesci family were associated with Abbeyleix for over three hundred years. The family were held in very high esteem by everybody. The growth and life of the town is closely intertwined with the history of the De Vesci Family. The present lord shares his story with us.

Seems a very nice and pleasant man. As a Celt of unbroken lineage I have no resentment whatsoever and wish him well.

Behan described an Anglo Irishman as,,,a Protestant with a horse,Try as I might I cant dislike this one,,,he seems a good man and a good Irishman, His family provided employment and schools,,,is that patriachal/patronising,,,well if not for them who else would do it. Strange that at the same time Tolstoy in Russia,,,also inspired by Pestalozzi,,was also building schools, Sorry he sold Abbeyleix House,,,,I hope the new owners respect its tradition

You know it’s very strange how the English transplants never discuss who owned the land before the Elizabethan period and what happened to the seven septs of Laois?

Do you know his family history? I'm trying to trace my birth surname Mcstoots (D'estouteville is where i've gotten to start) Eustace De Vesci mother was one of my ancestors, I know the name is obviously northern. Irish my guess, possibly Scottish.

My last name Veasy comes from this name De Vesci, would we be related? I have been researching about where my last name comes from.
