This is one of my favorite songs by Van Halen. I always love the rhythm of this song. I even love the words of this song. This is one of my favorite songs by Van Hagar ever
I still refer to the original lesson all the time....this is one of my favorite Van Halen songs of all time and really shows Eddie's creativity and masterclass of playing guitar. Thanks Marty.
Awesome lesson. Like many others, this is my favorite EVH riff from that time period. The version of it on the New Halen, CT Live Without a Net concert is so sick. The rock & roll gods were smiling down upon them that night, pleased with what they were seeing & hearing. On that night, they were the greatest r&r band in the world.🎸
Ed was the master of taking standard chord progressions and turning them into something exciting. I lot of the modern “Instagram” players are doing the exact same thing. Standard chords just played in different positions and techniques.
Marty, love your Van Halen content! You always inspire me to pick up my guitar and learn, nowhere near your talent, but I have fun trying, and isn't that what it's all about?
Really like the standard tuning, great to see that white EVH again man. Thanks for going over this again. Can't get enough of this stuff. Love 5150! 💪🏻😎🎸 🚬🎸
Thank you! This is my number 1 guitar in conjunction with a couple Les Pauls that I favor. I really love the way this thing plays and sounds. It does everything I need and it's perfect. No issues with anything. I appreciate the support man! 😎☮️
If I hit the lottery, I'm going to offer Marty 7 figures to teach me as many of these songs as possible. 5150 is my favorite song by any version of VH. Great video/lesson!
Yeh, I watched it too. It's gonna be a great show I'm sure. Joe has some practicing to do lol. I think they haven't rehearsed a lot just yet. EVH stuff is pretty different than his stuff so it's gonna be a little challenging!
You're very welcome! Remember, just make the C chord but use your middle, ring finger and pinky .... bar with the index. It's the classic Beatles chord! 😁🤟🏻
I like how you started the video with your channel theme. 👍🏼 I loved the Howard stern clips with the band playing songs like 5150, so I was excited to see this video come up after that.
Figured I'd have a little fun with everyone and slide that intro riff i there! 😂. I have enjoyed the Stern clips as well. Man tickets are pricey. That's my only beef. I wish concerts were affordable again. Scalpers suck!
Thanks Marty. Definitely one of my favorites. And yes, i do remember the other lesson. Man! Looks like im paying 350.00 fot one ticket in Charlotte if im goin!
I often wonder if Ed had played with Jerry Reed , what a killer tune that would be. Not sure why my brain sometimes combine the two. Listening to Reed as a kid I guess, but both used open tunings and chords in exotic ways. Thanks Marty…………righteous.
I record all my RUclips direct with a Fractal Ax8. Typically a Friedman BE sim with Friedman IRs. Sometimes a sure Badger. I add FX in post via pro tools. Usually reverb and delay. Sometimes chorus depending on the song.
Damn you are good ..I've been playing Eddie songs since 1982 84. Some songs I never botherd we're more chord difficult for me ...and poof here w have a great guy walking us thru ea note... man you are the best....i will be pulling out my Schecter axe and learn this today ....Thanks
The deeper one goes into EVH's playing, the more one realizes so much is his right hand. Far more than one realizes at first. Obviously the fret board action is all consuming but it will never sound right unless you have Eddies right hand.
Not an easy song at all. I never could make that bar C chord. Eddie made a lot of comments putting music theory in the trash, but i think he knew music theory really well.
It's too bad that most people who knew who EVH was, only think of him as a guitarist, which he absolutely was, but he was an even better composer. The music he composed will be listened to and examined for hundreds of years. Move over Mozart and Beethoven, make a little room next to you for EVH.
satch will do fine, no is eddie including all the copy cats and weirdo imitators. Also idk why you’d feel sorry for vic johnson, i dont think he’s hurting and if he was involved people would be shitting on him to just like they are satriani
Not really man, but I guess the timing was just right. Lol. Yeh, I love Satriani ... and listen to his stuff a lot to this day. But he's got a little practicing to do in order to get the VH feel on The song. I think they just kinda through that together for Stern? At least it sounded that way. 😳🤟🏻
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker ya I was disappointed, I love Joe too, but Geez, that was terrible, I suppose the general public won’t know the difference, but, for us VH addicts, well, very few would cut it, he was probably one, but needed to do more homework, not sure why Sammy didn’t go with Vic, I think Vic is a great player and has great tone. I still think Dweezil is the right guy for any type of high profile VH tribute or reunion.

Same here. Musically and lyrically it's so great. Aliso live without a net performance is tremendous. What a solo!!
DLR found out the hard way that Eddie's true talent wasn't in playing tricky solos really fast. It was his gift for creating great music like this.
I still refer to the original lesson all the time....this is one of my favorite Van Halen songs of all time and really shows Eddie's creativity and masterclass of playing guitar. Thanks Marty.
I agree. It's a brilliant song and a wonderful example of Eddie's playing and feel!! 😎🍺

They were glorious and fun years. Love it.
Marty, love your Van Halen content! You always inspire me to pick up my guitar and learn, nowhere near your talent, but I have fun trying, and isn't that what it's all about?
5150 percent awesome
Joe Satriani singlehandedly triggered a wave of 5150 how to videos with a single clumsy playthrough 😂😂😂
Joe just does not have Eddie’s touch or sense of rhythm…but then who does? 😂

@@tony_n316 admittedly it was pretty cool to see Sammy and Joe jamming on Howard Stern.

Thanks so much Marty. One of my ALL TIME favorite songs.

well i was waiting for the rest of the riff after the A part where he syncopated the intro to the chorus. cant seem to get the sync do own ..🥴
If someone asked who is Eddie Van Halen, I would play the 5150 intro to them-not eruption.

nice evh brown sound. you should let people know that you are not playing it exactly but in the style of...
About 3-4 Van Halen songs sound VERY similar to “The Song Remains the Same “ This bring one of them

What body, neck and fingerboard and pickups is that guitar
It's the EVH Frankie relic series. I just added a pickguard and toggle so I can use the neck pickup.
