I am not sure why this guy kept asking them about cancel culture stuff. Yes, they jammed with R Kelly once because they thought the pairing of them was totally "out there" and surprising for the fans. They didn't know about all of the charges against him at the time. They don't know him or have anything to do with him. Lollapalooza still had him on the bill and he wasn't convicted yet and they didn't know everything he had been charged with.

Yeah I can't think of anything more cringe to happen in an interview with the sweetest guys in music than to corner them about something as tired as cancel culture. Phoenix deserves way better, but whatever, I'm sure they've moved on lol

I think the question was relevant. He wasn't accusing them of anything and Thomas answer seemed honest and adequate. It's sad but they are affiliated with R Kelly, whether they want it or not, because of that Coachella show and that song they put out with him. They did benefit from that collaboration even if it was only in a symbolic way. Phoenix has been my favorite band for more than 10 years, but I think it's important to think about the collaborators they work with... Ezra Koenig and Bill Murray also have some shady stories about them.

Personally, the interviewer’s demeanor looks too ecstatic for such a heavy question and it comes across as getting entertained by the “pop culture drama” that came from collaborating with him. 😕 Phoenix are incredibly genuine guys and this was a genuine but serious mistake. What I do admire is they’re full honesty and accountability for it. Call me biased but that’s just the way I see it, at least in this video in particular.

This interviewer saying that vandalizing the most famous piece of art on the planet was "punk rock and kinda cool" made me instantly hate this guy. How can you condone that type of behavior? What a demented, stupid way of thinking.
