I agree with you 100%! The song selections were all perfect (upbeat and energetic), and I think it naturally made their performances more dynamic and powerful. The kids are always great musicians and performers - regardless of year - but I think the choice of music and the choreography makes a huge difference. Just my opinon, of course.
This High School Band should take part in the TOKIO Olympic as a thank you for all there hard work they are shown around the world, apart from there general school work they train/practice about 35 hours a week, remember these are school students they would put a lot of dance troupes & marching bands way behind them......REX.....
Some may argue the technical stuff, and I’m not knowledgeable enough to get into this. All I know is this group is the most entertaining band I have ever seen, their energy and smiles just make you feel so positive. I have the fever really really bad! Tachibana will always be my favorite band!!!!
I’m really glad that they performed Carpenter’s number “I need to be in love”. I love this number so much. I greatly respect the talents of Carpenters and Tachibana Green Band. Music is the universal language.!!
Hope they enjoyed their visit. Bittersweet they have to go home, you can tell by the audience response how much we Americans love them. I hope to visit Japan some time really soon. Tachibana is the best!
This band gives me joy beyond words. As many have said I could watch them all day. I was in a marching band in Oklahoma in the fifties, we did some dancing but nothing like this. You guys are perfection personified. I love it and much love to Kyoto Tachibana High School Green band. You spread a positive message that the world really needs in this day and time.
I am yet again blown away by this bands performance. Glenn Miller would be proud I think. As far as I am concerned this band is the gold standard of how all High School Bands should be. I so enjoyed the limited time I had in Japan. I would love to return and really see that magnificent country on a long term trip.
The educational system in Japan has allowed the American HS band concept to morph into a truly amazing and unique tradition. I am a retired band director and have loved this group, remembering when some of our best HS and college music educators were sent to Japan in the sixties and seventies to help initiate school band programs there. I must disagree with the "gold standard" comment. High school programs around the world and indeed in this country provide equally talented and amazing performances. The fact this band takes "American" music to a new level with off the chart choreography is indeed a compliment to our programs. If you are ever in Indianapolis in November, Chicago in December or Dayton, Ohio in April. you can see American high school performance programs at their best. We love performance music groups as they are the best ambassadors any country can provide to the world.
scechal, it is true that programs such as Avon and Broken Arrow are very good indeed but they just don't mesmerized, entertained, and light me up with so much joy and energy like Tachibana can. I can watch Tachibana over and over and never get tired of it. I've probably watch Music213's video of Tachibana playing at Disneyland in 2011 at least one hundred times by now and will still continue to watch. With most marching bands in America, even among the top elite ones, watching it once is often more than enough for me. Some I could barely make it through the video even if it's a short one. It's as if when you discovered Tachibana every other band is a distant second. They not only play their music brilliantly and flawlessly but also have the most incredible and in sync dancing choreography while playing their instrument at the same time. Oh, and they manage to do all of that in the most graceful and charming manner (yet so strong and powerful) that I have never seen in any other band in all of my life watching marching bands.
As a music teacher, I am delighted that you are so passionate in your appreciation of this group. I am in no way discounting the amazing Green Band and their talent! It is truly unique and above criticism. My disagreement was with Mr. Magill's comment "gold standard," which implies that all others should be compared to this band. There is no comparison, for a number of reasons, the most obvious being cultural. I am simply stating that there is room for a variety of styles under the umbrella of excellence, and that is why I mentioned other venues where schools in America highlight their best. The Rose Parade is so wonderful in that it indeed embraces the cultural contrasts by spotlighting bands from around the country and around the world. How boring is it when every band is the same? One does not need a "gold standard" in marching bands. That does not preclude people from having their favorite, though, and the Green Band is obviously yours! You are a great fan.

Tom Skupham Hi there, just so agree with your comment, I came across these young people a few months ago and from there by chance I have enjoyed watching a number of other school bands from Japan. I never new that it was such a popular part of Japanese society/culture and I applaud every aspect. What ever level they achieve these young people are simply inspirational
Songs played during this performance after the D-M says 1-2 - UP-2-3-4 (Every D-M does it different), and then the rest of the band runs out doing the "Tachibana Tension Yell" are: 1. I Can't Turn You Loose - Otis Redding 2. Soul-Finder - Bar-Kays (Where they do the Charleston) 3. In The Mood - Glen Miller (Tachibana Style) 4. I Need To Be In Love - The Carpenters - The Middle soloist on Clarinet is the D-M You Nagao 5. Cantina - Star Wars 6. Sing! Sing! Sing! - Louis Prima (Tachibana Style) They did not start these signature dance moves until 2006. Sing! Sing! Sing! did not become there signature song until 2007.
This is certainly the best high school band we have had in America. Fantastic performances. So many moves to memorize for all the performances, and yet the music never falters. -- Did you notice the trumpeters on the front line of "In the Mood?" -- Thank you for setting the standard to which none of our high schools have attempted to reach. I will never forget you, and will only dream to see you in person. This is so high on my bucket list -- someone may have to interpret that for you :). We love you and wish you well!!
tab lloyd, you know in my search for great high school bands in the RUclips world I've yet even find one that even comes close to Tachibana's level. Among the great elite ones in America, they all come in a very distant second. I know I'm being very subjective and biased but I'm just judging by what I hear, see, and feel. Their playing and dancing are flawless and beautiful and they bring so much joy and happiness to me when I hear and see them.

私は、今年の台湾遠征のニュースで初めて橘高校を知りました。関西在住にもかかわらず(笑) 以来、何本、橘の動画を見ただろう？その中でもこの演奏は秀逸の一言！ SingSingSingは、ただただ圧巻されました。お金を取れるレベル。ありがとう！

色んな積み重ねから、成り立つんですね。

このステージの振り付けや構成はすべて生徒たちによる原案ですから凄いと思います。見せて・魅せて・聞かせての三拍子揃ってます。

ローズパレードも終わって三年生は卒業しました。惜しいような寂しいような。新入生が加わってする激しい演技と演奏練習は、体育系の素人には信じられない程の苦労がありますね。その結果が観る人に楽しさと感動を与える。今頃になって吹奏楽の認識を改めています。
彼女、彼たちが社会にでる年代になっても、この日の思い出は色あせないんだろな＾全てにおいて言えるけど、一つの事に打ち込む姿は感動ものです＾

Son cencillamente geniales y espectaculares, Kyoto Tachibana shs band son lo mejor de Japón, las quiero.
一音一音、１ステップごとに全て意味があり、そしてメンバー一人一人が全て輝いていてもう凄すぎます。例えば4：00 ペットの一番左端の女の子が空いた右手を振っていたり、すべてに無駄がないですね。これ簡単そうに見えますがけっこう難しいと思います。
もはや 学校の部活動のレベルじゃないからなw金を払って見るレベルだよ 本当に凄い

これはアメリカ遠征だったと思いますが、時系列的にはわかりませんがこのステージドリルの他に9キロに及ぶローズパレードや無茶苦茶広いスタジアムでのグランドドリル等を時差ボケもどこふくかぜでびっしりのスケジュールを熟したオレンジの悪魔達ですね♥
橘のBenefit Concertは2012ローズ、2016ハワイ、2018ローズが見られるけれどどれも好き。もし生まれ変われるなら彼女たちのホストファミリーになりたいｗ
酒場のバンドからsingへの移行に意表を突かれてしまった。

日本と違う反応、声援 本音を言ってしまえば日本よりアメリカの方が京都橘にとっては向いていると思ってしまう。
京都橘が周りを巻き込んで広がりを見せている理由が見え隠れしているよなぁ・・・単に憧れとかを飛び越してきている

日本での京都橘の商店街パレードなどを観ると、よくあんな狭いところで客とぶつかりもせず、跳んだり跳ねたりできると感心します。商店街のお客さんたちの協力あってこそだと思います！お客さん含めてみんなまるで忍者w
そういった経験がこの狭い舞台上での迫力ある踊りに繋がっていると思えば、日本だからこそ橘が生まれたのではないかと。
もちろん橘のパフォーマンスがアメリカにとてもよく合うという感覚には激しく同意です！

Thank you for setting the standard to which none of our high schools have attempted to reach. I will never forget you, and will only dream to see you in person. This is so high on my bucket list -- someone may have to interpret that for you :). We love you and wish you well!!
tab lloyd, you know in my search for great high school bands in the RUclips world I've yet even find one that even comes close to Tachibana's level. Among the great elite ones in America, they all come in a very distant second.
I know I'm being very subjective and biased but I'm just judging by what I hear, see, and feel. Their playing and dancing are flawless and beautiful and they bring so much joy and happiness to me when I hear and see them.
And don't forget they have their regular studies to fit into the hours, days, and weeks of practice!

はっきり言って、京都橘高校のマーチングSHOWのOBが入った拡大版を観たアメリカの方々が羨ましいです。ベネフィト・コンサートは有料の価値はありますね。フォスト・ファミリーとかは招待らしいですけど。因みにチケットは渡米前に完売だったとさ。
