I really enjoy how you learn from your novice experiences. The fact that you share your experience in a thoughtful and concise way is to your credit. Thank you.

Thanks. I like to watch the footage of these moments I knew something was not quite right on the water but didn’t have time or know how to fix them. There were lots of details I missed but caught by cameras.

Two other things to consider are rig tune and the placement of the mast in the step.

Everything you say is right, but you miss one root cause of weather helm. When the boat heels the CoE also moves significantly to leeward. Having all the drive out to one side makes the boat turn toward the other side, obviously.

Isnt weather helm a protection mechanism to turn the boat into the wind in case you fall overboard? You want the boat to turn into the wind and stall, rather than turning leeward and run away LOL !

Chas X- No, you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what is being discussed.

Hi, some weather helm is good. Too much rounds up the boat to the wind. Rudder has to be used more to compensate. It slows down the boat and could be dangerous in some situations.

@@novaturient-sailing yeah, you mentioned it twice, weatherhelm is noticeable on all the boats that you have sailed, and two, weatherhelm is more noticeable when the boat is heeling over, which means if you fight the winds with the rudder, then either you break the rudder or you tip over....so either release the sails to de-power the boat, or turn into the winds!!!
