What era of house wiring would have someone taking a neutral from the upstairs circuit and using it with the line from the downstairs circuit to wire a light? That's a lot more work to wire surely? Is there much of this out there?
Thanks for the comment. The safe isolation procedure is the correct term, but yes, its often called dead testing. Making sure the installation is not Live.
