Hey guys I saw plenty of videos of this problem. I have a 2013 Chevy Silverado work truck with a 4.3L. To keep long story short I had same issue. I replaced thermostat and coolant temperature sensor with Advance auto parts products to fix the problem, and it did but only for 2 days. As I was driving on the highway the message came back. The permanent fix is to replace the thermostat with a AC Delco brand. I have absolutely no clue why the aftermarket thermostat doesn’t fix the issue but I can guarantee the OEM thermostat does the trick. Going a couple of weeks and a couple of hundred miles under the new ac delco thermostat and issue has not come back. Hopefully it stays that way.

I have a 2013 Silverado with that 4.3 L V6 engine. I have those exact problems & the electric cooling fans run full speed. I've been told the temp sensor is no good. I got one of those code reader gauges that also reads live data streams from the PCM and it's showing me the engine temp of 171*F. I unplug the temp sensor and the gauge shows -40*F. Plug it back in and it's back to 171*F. I've also had issues this last winter with snow & ice building up in the engine compartment. Never had that in previous winters. The cooling system was flushed & refilled with new Dexcool last summer.
Your video is saving me lots of money as I will replace the thermostat myself. What do you recommend for hose clamps? I'd like to save as much coolant as possible without draining the entire system & getting air locks.

Had a question on this. If we've already replaced both the thermostat, and temp sensor, where else should we check on the harness for an intermittent issue of this nature? On my truck, I believe it is a bad ground, because I get static on AM stations when hitting bumps in the road.

I haven't found the issue yet but every time it comes on I just clear the code with a readers and go on about my day lol. I've changed everything else as far as Thermostat and all that.

Just had a 2011 chevy impala v6.. Same code and simptom. P0128 is 99.8% a thermostat..if it sticks open it can stick closed. And cause over temp condition and that's why the pcm cuts off AC, and gives you DIC information.

Finally noticed signs of water pump seepage. Also found overflow tube in tank was cracked.. neither leak enough to notice.
    Changed water pump and tank.
Still had fluctuation issues. Changed thermostat and sending unit... Still issues, as in up to 235°, would cool very fast if rev up to 2k... But at a drive up window or coasting down hill.. it went back up.
Played with thermostat, cut old one up and reinstalled.. damn computers!!! Runs nice temp, but throws the AC off code.
Modified new stat.. couple of 1/8 holes. Works great!! But...

    Pressure tested. Vacuum tested...
No indication of a crack or head gasket issue..

I’m having this same issue, engine hot AC off message, no temperature gauge, and Fan spinning super fast and loud, but before it happened I was having some kind of fuel problem cause I was driving on the highway and suddenly the throttle does fully respond, I had to slightly touch it with my foot so the truck doesn’t choke and on little incline it would god very slow like 15mph, so after couple miles of driving it gave this exact fail, I shut it off for like 5 minutes and the hot engine message, fan and temp gauge were still there but I got a little more power I manage to drive it back home, so once I arrived I took off the positive of the battery for a few minutes then back on so I started the truck and the message was gone as well as the fan and the temp gauge, but I haven’t driven it yet. What could it be?

@universalservicetechust3578 The problem ended up being that it wasn't reaching operating temperature quick enough. The computer gives it 9 or 10 minutes, if it hasn't reached a certain temp by that time, it goes into a fail-safe mode.

You ever get it fixed? I noticed my truck was having a to crank a few times before it would start. Then a couple days later my temp gauge went dead. I replaced the thermostat and the coolant temp sensor and cleared the code and the fan still runs full speed and the temp gauge still won't work and my AC won't blow cold. I'm all out of ideas.

Thanks Thomas. I know it’s always best to operate a vehicle at its normal operating temp to keep it in closed loop operation among other things. At 160F up here it wouldn’t thaw the windows in winter. Thanks for dropping by as always sir.

O ring on t stat is plenty enough. As all GM has o ring on t stats as standard.
As the surface area is minimal, a lip around the top hose is good for the o ring.
