Dong Xiaobo has a rather expensive hobby. He raises 1,200 racing pigeons in the southern suburbs of Beijing. Dong's pigeons compete in many races and have won him several trophies. But like many pigeon enthusiasts in China, Dong doesn’t make money from his hobby. He's invested in 600,000 yuan (US$85,554) of his own money every year to raise and train his pigeons.

@@3rdvoidmen594 200km is not normal ... infect anything above 50km is too much ... they have trained them so also they are very high quality rare breeds
@risinglotuswind If only 1% returned he wouldn't have any pigeons left... Racing pigeons aren't cheap so there's no realistic reason to just let them die.
Every 2 days i buy 2kg of feeds for my pigeons just because i love them and it is my hobby to take care of them.

The sound of pigeon whistle (a bamboo device tied to a pigeon's tail that makes a soothing sound in flight) is forever a part of my childhood memory in Beijing. So beautiful and calming it was when the birds circle around and the whistles change tunes as they maneuver. Nowadays it is more challenging for the birds to navigate their ways around taller and bigger buildings especially ones with glass curtainwalls.
Cool i d like to try using it i think it might deter the hawk when being chased.

This was great, thanks, been searching for "free racing pigeons" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Hansaac Riyliver Scheme - (do a search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin got amazing success with it.

I rescue sick injured birds, many are piegons. They r treated as pest nowadays which is very unfair for these clever birds. Personally I don't agree with animal racing in any forms, however I hope these keepers can still look after their birds when they r sick, weak or unable to race.

How pigeons race? They will drop at the mark destination and the fastest to go home win, they have code in there ring feet so the owner can send the code.
They’re very smart actually, they were used in wars and one pigeon actually saved lots of soldiers due to it passing messages.
