My father and I took one out at Disney World in ‘82 when I was 9. I had a blast. Never knew what the boat was called. So glad I found this video. I love how the dash has pods for gauges, but doesn’t have any lol
I used to own one of those mini boats. I didn't own a Mercury Water Mouse, but I used to own an 1995 Aqua Lark Rental with a 1998 Johnson 15HP 2 stroke engine which I also added front and rear lights and bilge pump on it along with a battery to power them along with a key ignition starter. For a 15HP 2 stroke, that thing goes like a bat out of hell going 25-30 MPH tops and the largest engine you can install on those mini boats is up to 30HP which can probably get it up to maybe 50-60 MPH at most. Great boats. Make sure to install fins on the engine so it can get out of plane much faster.
I rented these things in Mouseland.. I don't think you had to have a license even to run them.. I loved them.. I'd love to make one into a mini bass boat. You could use RC parts for a trolling motor, everyone has to use ultralight tackle.. keepers are 6-8 inches etc.. would be hilarious watching people's reactions on a lake😂😂 Really cool.
This should be a tribute to when Disney was s place we could be proud of , long , long ago. As long as the hull is still solid , but ought to be ( ? ) since it looks light , should clean up well ? Don’t know boats real well but I’d imagine shooting water into the body to look for leaks would be easy ? Low mileage sounds like a deal . Glad you scored it . All in all , that was fun . You pulled a few knots . “ it’s a small world after all ….. “
Fun fact; the 9.9hp outboard motor was invented just for the U.S. So, why not 10hp? If you had a motor on your boat from 10hp and up, you have to pay taxes for emission, and insurance, while everything under 10hp was considered a toy and free. Yamaha had a real bestseller of their 9.9 in the U.S, it literally blew the competition away because that little engine actually had close to fifteen hp, and therefor was a much better buy than any of the other engines in the 9.9 class.
I remember renting these boats at Disney world I charged to the hotel room that my dad was paying for I went over and over needless to say my dad was severely pissed
Such a fun boat, my brother and I rode them in Disney World, maybe 2005ish? We had an insane time, we almost crashed into each other, one of the Disney boat cops talked to us, I think I was 14 or 15. I mayyyy have had my learners permit. Hahah such a crazy time, ill never ever forget it.
I would call a true mercury 2 stroke one they build all in house. Most of them didn't have a cylinder head, just a water jacket cover. This motor looks like it has just a jacket. The mercury/ tohatsu I see have a different lower unit, carbs and ignition. And the power head casting. Usually say made in Japan on the serial tag. All mercury 4 strokes now 30hp and under are tohatsu. Top to bottom. Before that in the 2000s they were using 4 stroke yamaha power heads and Somes times there fuel and ignition systems from yamaha also. I've worked at a marina for 20 years and that motor I believe was built by mercury but I could be wrong. It's hard to keep up with all the brands rebranding.
@@stevejones9832 thank you for the explanation! Honestly wanted your opinion and got it. Too many people don't value opinions just use them disagree. I look at it like I might of over looked a key factor in why I thought it was a Tohatsu power head. Thank you for the reply!
I had a 98 Mercury Mouse with a 40 hp outboard on it. It screamed for sure. It had a 15 hp on it when I bought it. But I had to get her moving a bit faster.
Cool little boat. Are you sure you turned the drive shaft the right direction to "set" the impeller fins in the housing? I may be having a brain fart, but it sure looked like you were turning it in the wrong direction. Would work for a while but won't last.
Hi John! Thanks for coming over from TikTok, yes! I’m actually working on the entire video now, it’s about a 12 min video but but I go over the boats a little more in depth than the 1 minute TikTok, should be out by tomorrow hopefully
Do you have to add the oil from the drain bolt in the lower unit? Why wouldn’t you add it from the fill hole? I’ve never worked on a boat motor so I’m genuinely curious.
Yeah, you fill it from the bottom. Fill from bottom, put the top screw back & you have time to put the bottom one in and maybe lose one drop. If you fill from the top it won’t fill completely because of air pockets.
Actually the reason that they had 9.9 on them is because I'm pretty sure you don't need a license to operate a 9.9 HP motor. I'm not even sure if you even need to have them registered at that point.
OBSERVATION..i get a kick out of people who have boats, cars and whatever else sitting in their yard thats completely broke or useless and the walk by it everyday as it deteriorates.
As a certified marine propulsion tech Trust me when I say it's a very foolish thing to use starting fluid on anything you want longevity out of. And it's also a very bad decision to run any outboard or pwc 2 stroke engine for any length of time without water cooling the powered. It literally only takes a couple seconds to do serious damage to the piston and rings without proper cooling. 2 strokes heat up roughly 3 to 5 times faster than 4 strokes because they have twice the ignition strokes and run at higher rpm at idle without the benefit of internal oil cooling .
starting it dry and after sitting for a long time, the water impellor is prob toast....the wings will stick to the housing and rip them off edit: should have waited till the vid was over.....lol

I wonder how rare these are, would be the perfect fishing boat to haul behind my tiny Geo Tracker.

That`s how I start my Sundays

I remember my dad standing up in one of those a pissing in the lake. Ohhh good times
That most of the stickers are gone is an improvement.
this is awesome man!
I used to have one of these. I'd tell people I had my very own Disney ride. I sold it to a family with 2 little girls. I hope they enjoyed it.
Cool boat... wish you showed us the water pump worked by seeing a steady stream of water pushing out the back....
Reminds me of the Flexboat rs10 that my grandfather gave me when I was 14 years old
well at-lease you actually finished this project :D, ive been waiting 3 years for the other one
Definitely a Tohatsu engine with mercury decals. Sweet boat honestly, at first i thought it was cheesy. But honestly that little boat is fire!
Pretty sure that's a true mercury. The sea pro mercury 2 strokes are tohatsu. Tohatsu has a different style gearcase also.

Dang i remeber these being alot slower at Disney lol
The ones at Disney have 10HP engines. If you get your own mini boat like that, you can install up to a 30HP engine.
That makes sense
