Just stumbled upon this post. Wow! What a blast from the past!!! The Bike Shoppe sponsored the race. That's my brother Jim Alfonso handing out the trophies! I used to work there as a mechanic when I was 14-15. We built plenty of custom BMX bikes. Took them out to the big jump on Platt, or raced them at Indian Dunes. Those who remember...know. That was a scary jump!!! But in those days (1974-75), the money was in 10-speeds.
My Dad was the manager of the Market Basket Grocery store that was in the north East corner, opened up in 1964, when they closed a few years later it became Vendome liquor .😊 I used to collect shopping 🛒 carts for him in the summer time for extra money, brings back childhood memories!😅😮❤
Southern California was THE place to be back in the 1960s and 1970s. Fields everywhere, less traffic, low crime, no billboards in spanish, theme parks, cruising , surfing, skateboarding, and bikes. It'll never be the same
Yeap I lived in the OC, 7 miles from the beach, a 35 cent bus ride away, the best part was BMX was brand new, so were skateboards, or at least halfway decent wheels and precision bearings. We used to go to the swap meets to buy all of our stuff,
Why stop there? Let the nostalgia take us back further to 200 years ago before the European arrived from dirty crime ridden europe with weird accents and no English! Ah yes, before that there were rolling hills, farmland everywhere, Buffalo roamed free and people lived humbly and simple...no guns, whiskey...no problems! Never be the same.
I remember this. This is about the same time we had night BMX races at Highlander Park in Canoga Park and a track set up near Castle Peak by some of the local MX racers. Great video.......Bruce Kaplan
Here we are 2019 watching a blast from the past, this just gave me an idea for our car club's car show coming up. We need an event the whole family can participate in or ol' farts lol
I have one but due to the rims being wiggly it always hits the chassis, but it is fast, once I was going to buy bread, my tire was deflated, so I used drag knowledge to know that super super ultra soft and deflated tires expand when speed catches up, so I used it, and while going to my limits i felt a lift at my rear, went super fast, amazing, best bicycle yet (or ever) after my old broken down BMX, hope they make more of this.
Aloha e davepuls. I saw this in the movie "Funny Car Summer" in the 1970's at the Palace Theater in Hilo, Hawai'i.. That is ESPN's resident Drag Racing Professional Sportscaster Mike Dunn as a kid. Classic! Mahalo (thank you) for posting this. It brings back memories of my youth. A hui hou (Until we meet again). Jj
We use to have bicycle rodeos with the 4-H club for those that didn't own a horse. First place 3 years in a Row, later in life I started my Bucketlist adventures tour on a bicycle tour/ride, 1500 on one trip 2 years ago. I miss jumping Ramps!
That's the back of the parking lot parallel to the wash. It's approx. 1/4 mile long. In the early 70's, when I was in high school, we would drag race our cars along there. Bitchin'!
I drag raced a kid in my HS parking lot I was riding an old late 80s Night Hawk mountain bike that was converted to a custom chopper/cruiser (converted by me). The kid I was competing rode a late model Specialized aluminum road bike. I obviously had a much more heavier bike but with my leg strength and lower gears, he had no chance competing against me. He ran out of parking lot before even being able to even out with me.
I think its awesome that they did cool stuff like this then they don't do anything like this today especially how the bikes are its all gone to these straight frame ugly bikes with no style just like the cars
The parking lot at the Fallbrook Mall is like a maze. It would be impossible to have any bike race there. And now all the teens are Mexican. So there would probably be a bike stealing competition.
You are a fkn asshole racist pig. I lived on Fallbrook before the Square existed and 1/4 of Columbus Jr High and Canoga were of Mexican backgrounds. Move to Utah asshole.
I know it well .. started racing in chatsworth park 75 .. lived roscoe and topanga . Raced for Brady bro’s bmx late 70s early 80s. Valley was it ... I cry every day about the good times there .. on my way to work.. look what liberals did to it ... it’s fuck ruined . I would hitch a ride down topanga to surf ... what a shit hole now .. I bet u could not find one person in the area that speaks English .
The 70 was the best time to be a kid,

That's Mike Dunn , who's dad is Foemer drag race legend and NHRA team owner Jim Dunn , Mike Dunn went on to race top fuel in the NHRA
dual chutes, rear axle spoilers.... this is awesome... I'd give anything to go back to this time
Any idea how to make one of those chutes?
@@LetsGo4IT I was thinking the same thing. I'm thinking one of those track and field training chutes might be a good start.
@@snowleopard4689 i was thinking the same thing. How would you deploy it? any ideas? thanks

I grew up in those times, but those chutes were silly! 😂

So awesome. Let’s go back.
This is exactly why I miss the 70s!
Somebody needs to find as many 70s BMX videos as possible, and put 'em all on 1 channel. 😀😀👍👍🍕🌮🍟📺📺🎸🚀🐒

Hi Wheelie King!
We use to have bicycle rodeos with the 4-H club for those that didn't own a horse. First place 3 years in a Row, later in life I started my Bucketlist adventures tour on a bicycle tour/ride, 1500 on one trip 2 years ago. I miss jumping Ramps!
Thanks for posting! I live down the street from the Fallbrook Center.

My friends and I would use Schwinn Jr's bar on our BMX back in the day, it is nice to see other people on this video doing the same.
This is cool
Every state should try this
Low - really high pay rate $$$$ 🚴❤️
The 70's looked so much funner. :/ Hate being 16 in this generation some times.

This is like race wars for bikes 😂
Cool !!
This was an awesome thing to watch, just as I imagine my father and his stories...
Kool video!
What is the distance for the E.T.? Looks like about 150 feet (?)
Ray Manzarek for the win.
so mush awesome
i grew up right across the street from that mall crazy how it looked back then
I still remember the time I was in my local park, from a dead stop I wheelied so hard that I nearly fell on my ass.
When I was a kid we drag raced on our neighborhood street, our street is so bumpy and old and hasn't been paved in like 5 years
That do i now WITH my friends : )
Is this still an event in California
what film was this from?
funny car summer I think.
@2:09 Dem sideburns!
Not bad for a single speed
how did i get here?
0:06 i wonder,how do they replace the text ?
Who music is that? Starts at 1:00
There was a top fuel driver named mike Dunn, wonder if this is him?
I'd believe a top fuel driver used to rig up parachutes on his bike as a kid.
MAKE AMERICA
GREAT AGAIN
Man, that really took me back. I turn 42 in a few days and it made me think about my 1975 Murray Front Runner.
ah, if it's from Funny Car Summer, 1973 then.
I guess LA was a bit ahead of fashion vs. my neck of the woods!
in doing this stuff with a vintge gt dyno i have now im trying to make a roll bar or it every race with my friends i go home with a bloody back
and im trying to start this shit again
Kid riding a fixie at the end
Is this why bikes like this were called dragsters?
I always hated the single clamp gooseneck never held your bars in place you're lucky if your dad was a welder
I wouldn't have done so hot. My fastback was geared more toward top end! It had the biggest front sprocket on the block!
Love the parachutes haha
Wow what a time to be alive
trying to guess the exact year . . . 1977 maybe?
there's no clear shot of cars to go by, just the clothing
Chris Hoy would smash those times.
I know..This actually looks fun, wtf happened?
The generation now will never understand this! And probably to week from laying around playing video games!! The 70s was a great time
I think its awesome that they did cool stuff like this then they don't do anything like this today especially how the bikes are its all gone to these straight frame ugly bikes with no style just like the cars

go fuck yourself
GET OUT OF MY COUNTRY!!!!!!
clevelandphil I was born here although I'm Hispanic
Why do you have to get racest dud? I'm an American Mexican. I raced those same bikes in the 70s I probably whooped you huhm
