- Poultry is a big business in Maryland. In fact, in 2017 the state’s farmers produced 306 million “broilers,” or meat chickens. Jamie Robinette at Way Moore Farms is what’s called “contract grower,” meaning he has a contract with a poultry company-in this case Mountaire, who provides him with resources to grow his birds. Today, flock supervisor Brett Shockley is there to make sure Jamie’s birds are healthy and ready to be moved into a bigger space as the grow.
