10 years and this vid is still positively affecting lives 💪🏾 Epic commentary 😂and instructions right on point brother
Glad it’s still helping 👍
One of the most helpful videos about old benz's on RUclips, had to do this on a 2002 c32 amg and this was straight to the point and getting the bolt off is indeed the hardest part.
I have to do this on a c55 Amg I think I’m just to take it in and have them do it
Getting ready to do this on my 32, do you remember what size the bolt was?
Wow! Even at six years old this was the most helpful video on this task. On my S430's M113 I got the restraining tool on and stuck the 27mm socket inside the pulley only to find that I needed a 17mm hex bit to remove the original bolt. No one else referenced that. I've been told that threadlock is not needed because the extra 90* turn actually stretches the bolt threads to lock it in place. Thanks a whole lot!!
You're welcome!
Amazing job, thanks for doing this . Now it gives me the confidence to do it my self in these hard economic times and I love my C240.
Excellent video. 195k on my 2002 c240. Vibration at 2000-2500 rpm
Thank you for that video. I recently purchased my first w210 with a leaking crankshaft seal. Unsure of the process involved I turned to youtube and you've helped in more ways than one. Thank you again.
Glad it helped ")
Could you tell me how you fixed your main seal was it jus the balancer
I needed 3 hours to lose this screw
in the end I used a 2meter long steelpipe
works perfect
Good to have you on youtube. You show exactly the work on a Benz i have to to do. How old was the item or how many kilometers did it run? Thank you from Germany 👍
Hello and thanks for video . I own a Chrysler crossfire 3.2 Mercedes engine I noticed the crank pully wobbles a little what causes this ?? and is this really dangerous I bought this used with 146,000car runs great . I just replaced the ac compressor pully and electro magnet don't wanna ever do that job again ughhh 2 day job no where to work tight area when you are on your back and with arthritic hands yikes . Looks like this may be a job in the spring cause it is getting to cold right now when ya gotta work outside in the driveway. This is not an everyday driver what can happen if it does fail complete destruction of the radiator and Ac condencer ?? just wish I had a friend to help me with this or has the tools . These are perhaps a one time use tool . Thanks for your videos I have learned much from watching you ..
yes I agree .. I bought mine years ago and used it twice . If the pulley goes it can take out the entire front engine timing cover . You can check the part # and then see if Chrysler has a recall notice , If they do there is a chance they will fix it free . I work outside as well and cold really slows you down
Minkälainen on tuo lukitustyökalu? Itse tehty?
Hey Fupabox, getting ready to do this and thanks for the great video. To be clear, the 17mm allen removes the bolt and the new bolt is a 27mm socket? 150 foot pounds plus 90' ?
That is correct
Why no change the oil seal...? In a few week you make the same job again....
I believe it takes the same size socket to release the tensioner but maybe it’s different on yours
When you installed the new pulley did it still wobble? I got mine done at the dealership with all oem parts and it still wobbles. Technician is telling me that there is nothing to worry about since it is normal for these engines. What is your input on this? I trust he installed it correctly since it’s a very important part and he is also an experienced technician
Yeah they will always wobble a tiny bit because of the rubber layer . It’s the bad part # that matters most because the rubber fails .
I Got the same issue on m113k
Fupabox, I am going exactly through this on my M112 engine, in fact I am on my way to remove the fronte engine cover since I have the 2 rubber o-rings that seals the water gallery from the pump into the engine leaking badly (in fact the rings are gone long ago, I found one of them in the on the RH engine head (while I was replacing the head gasket which was blamed for the water leak....). have you been through in removing the engine cover once you removed the harmonic balancer?
Good video, straight to the point without extra talking. Need to do mine will probably video too.
What was that ticking sound when went at 90 °
where did you get the harmonic balanced? I can't seem to find a new aftermarket one for my 1996 Mercedes C220. The stealership wants over 500.00 for it. it's ridiculous for a pulley. I have to replace my front crankshaft seal, and figured if it's off I might as well change it out. My car has 165,000 miles on it. thanks.
try "rockauto" or fcp euro, or peachparts
Does this job apply to 2016 e350 4 Matic
Hey, nice video, you said the replacement was a Febi ? .. is it still running fine in 2018? I had 2 bad experiences with Febi :) .
as far as I know it is ..Sold over 2 years ago , but saw the car drive past me on highway last year
@@fupabox Cool, that's great because I wanna replace the same bastard but I don't wanna go with the most expensive one.
Thanks for the content! I have to do this to my C55 soon 🙄
Scotty Kilmore uses a ratchet pinned against another pulley then uses the starter to get it lose. Or, if it's opposite rotation, I imagine he uses the starter to torque it as well. Scotty Kilmore is awesome, he just doesn't give a F and owns it!
It was cool watching you struggle, thanks for the entertaining video.
Did you notice a rough idle prior to changing the HB, and if so did it improve after your replaced the pulley?
a slight vibration only
My 98 clk vibrates when stopped in drive, mechanic said it was the fuel injectors but I'm questioning that now.
Hi, I was wondering why you changed the harmonic balance was there something wrong with it ?
As explained in the video , the harmonic balancer was separating from the rubber sleeve
Hi Nice video, I'm replacing the Crank Pulley on my SL55. I've got the old one off, but when I slide the new one on, I can only do it by hand for 1/8" after that, it's too tight. How can I align the woodruff key if I can turn the pulley by hand?
Jeff Edison put your purse down.
Thanks for the video bro. so is the balancer what causes the whole vehicle to basically shake while idling and stopped. i know brakes, tires, alignment is good. But im thinking the the vibration i have is coming for the engine; it feels like a vibrating massage in the car. where did you get that tool btw?
+TonyAMG43 it may be the balancer , or engine tranny mounts tool shop.ktcautotools.com/collections/mercedes-benz-tools?page=3
yes tony, sounds like your engine/trans mounts or a misfire..not the balancer pully. in my opinion..
Nice video, I just use an impact wrench to remove the harmonic balancer bolt instead of getting a holder tool and fighting a breaker bar etc ... ijs
yeah that is a terrible idea, impact wrench will give the bolt metal fatigue and it will likely snap, that's why they don't use rattle guns on trucks wheel nuts
A risky approach Clint.
In 2 ways because the hammering action of the impact COULD break the old bolt before it releases, causing you much headache.
Plus the impact vibration might be bad on the crankshaft in terms of the bearings & engine internals.
Obviously some ARE done this way - and if no damage results I guess its ok.
But recall, you can't put it back on to proper Torque spec that way, so you're going to need all the same tools just the same for the re-install process !
why you not change the crankshaft oil seal?
I realized that 10 minutes after I put everything back together...I have it too ..DOH!! ..I think my brain is getting soft :(
Hi I watch your video of you replacing your harmonic damper. I have a Mercedes Vito 109 van which has 155 thousand miles on the clock and I am having some vibration on tick over. I would like to change the damper soon but cannot find any where in the uk were I can purchase the tool you have from Mercedes. I really need to purchase that tool so I can do the job properly. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks.
I got mine from KTC tools.. they shipped to Canada, so possibly they can ship to the UK
***** Thanks for replying so quickly I will try them.I will keep in touch and let you know how I get on. Thanks again. Brendan.
Brendan Geraghty You're very welcome.. let me know if you found it and how the repair works out for you
I am looking for the tool to hold the crankshaft, how much you pay for it and where can I buy it.
I got mine from ktc auto tools . About $50 a few years back . I can't find one in stock anywhere
Hey great video and job man! 1 question, could you have used a 2 or 3 jaw puller to remove the balancer?
not really.. it is tightened to over 300ft lbs so breakaway torque to undo it is prob close to 400ft lbs .. the whole issue is keeping the pulley from turning
The cracking sound @ 20:18, was that just something slipping or is it supposed to make that sound when it is 90 degrees?
+Andy M just the bar and the pipe over it slipping on each other
Why did you not replace the oil seal while the vibration dampener was off ?
only because I honestly didn't think of it ... I should have replaced it since the hard work was done and it would have taken another 5 minutes
hi chain sound and balancer sound are vey same sound. how can i understand damage ? chain or balancer
i think i can do this. have 1998 mb e320. 212,000 mi. going to see how far she will go. should i do this now?
it's possible it was replaced under an old recall. check the serial # on your harmonic dampener
Hi what was the part number on the new harmonic balancer. I plan on replacing mine since it has the part number 112 035 00 00. Can I replace with any balancer suitable for the m112 engine as long as it does not contain the problematic part number? My local mercedes supplier trying to charge me $250. I can get cheaper online but am worried about ordering one with a part number not suitable for my M112 engine. Is it safe to order any?
any balancer designated for the m112 engine will work...they just have different part #s depending on manufacturer.. just make sure to get a name brand like Lemforder or Febi
Why only name brands? Not worth bothering with Trucktec?
Alibanjo I would be wary of some of the offshore brands.. some are good, some not so much,, the risk of doing $2000 worth of damage to the timing cover .. I know trucktec is German but I have no experience with their parts.. any brand sold by FCP or Peachparts should be ok, I don't think they bother carrying anything of inferior quality
please help my merc is not charging the b3 light are turning on when put key
Good Job! I have E420/1997, do I need to do this?? Or is it after 1998 only?? Thanks, youtheman =),...by the way, how much was the harmonic balancer??
This is for the V6 or V8 m112 / m113 engines.
I believe your early one has a straight 6.
Not sure but yours may NOT have balancer issues.
IF YOU CAN FIT AN IMPACT GUN IN THERE BETWEEN THE RADIATOR, CAN GET IT OUT WITHOUT THE HOLDING TOOL. I MISSED THE POINT ABOUT THE ANGLE OF ROTATION ON TIGHTENING. WHAT IS IT LIKE 90 DEGREES PAST SNUG?
150 ftlbs + 90 degrees
Why You Don't Replace A Crakshaft Seal At the Same Time ?
I should have . It was an oversight on my part .
Could somebody please tell me where the distributor cap is on the W210.
No Distributor cap on these m112 V6 engines.
Computer handles the spark distribution tells each cylinder coil when to fire.
What is that blue liquid your are putting on the bolt? Is it necessary?
It;s blue threadlock.. it is necessary to keep the bolt from vibrating loose.. there is also a red threadlock, but it can only be removed with heat ..so use the blue
Whats the part number for the new Harmonic Balancer?
112-030-00-00
Sorry, maybe a dumb question, but why did you change this in the first place? Thanks....
There are certain factory part #s that have a high failure rate .. I showed the part # in the video.
I'm having an incredibly hard time getting the new part on the Woodruff key.. Any advice
+Matthew Nota You could very lightly file the square notch on the new balancer to allow the woodruff key to slide in.. very very lightly though..also a bit of oil helps it slip on
Thanks.. turns out I had already gotten it on.. It was sticking out a couple millimeters so I figured that it was stuck on the key but I measured how deep it goes in and it was on completely... By the way I've watched a bunch of your videos and I want you to know that they are extremely helpful! I honestly wouldn't have felt confident doing any of these things without them.. Many thanks!
Matthew Nota you're very welcome.. glad they helped :)
Where can I get the tool to hold the harmonic balancer damper pulley from turning??
+Donny Wilson shop.ktcautotools.com/collections/mercedes-benz-tools?page=3
Home Depot
The serpentine belt should come off first. This will reduce the tension of the harmonic balancer.
Good job man :)
Could someone please tell me where the distributor is on the V6.
+Maceo Sullivan There is no distributor .. it has 1 coil pack per cylinder.. they are on top of the cylinder heads
Maceo? its near the muffler bearings under the nuclear reactor cover..
I don't see why you need another 90 degrees turn on that big bolt. With threadlock and 150lb-ft, that bolt ain't going anywhere.
It's a stretch to torque bolt. Factory manual says do it , so I don't question them ..lol
should've replaced the crankshaft seal while you already went through all that trouble.
I agree 100 % .
You should have replaced the crankshaft gasket/seal while you had that bitch of a balancer off. It's only a $10 gasket, and seeing how hard it was to break that balancer/crank bolt it would've been wise to replace the crank seal/gasket because they are one of several known oil leak's on these 3.2 MB engines. Great video too by the way
I thought of the crank seal while I was removing the pulley ...I swear my brain is getting mushy with age , but thank god it wasn't leaking :)
W211s got hit with this issue too. It was a bugger for sure.
Yeah, all the cars with the m112 and m113 engines can have this problem..Mercedes had a recall on it in the USA and fixed them for free.. Mercedes Canada...nope :(
***** I'm in the USA. Never personally owned my own Mercedes with an M112. My father used to be a tech for Mercedes, I remember when it became a real problem and they started coming through the shop. Did any of your personal cars have this issue that you stumbled upon it? Hopefully not.
Jake Werner Just this one ..clk320..it made it 280k km on the original...never had any issue with a Crank pulley on any Mercedes I've owned or wrenched on..
Isn't this timing belt ?
nope
I’ma try it my motor mount are fine
belt slips off and on nicely on the water pump cilindre
yea i think I'm gonna have to replace mine soon mines leaking
heres the link to the seals as available on rockauto...it is the front seal you need www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/mercedes-benz,2001,slk320,3.2l+v6,1368581,engine,crankshaft+seal,5604
do i still need to take the harmonic balancer pulley off right an remove the old one
yes the pulley comes off ,then the seal pries out
Что ты делаещь не показывая работу !!!!, ?

THE NARRATION WAS NOT VERY GOOD ON THIS VIDEO BUT THANKS FOR POSTING. JUST A POINTER. YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO ADD (TYPE OVER TEXT) AFTER UPLOADING TO RUclips OR ON YOUR DESKTOP VIDEO EDITOR. TO CLARIFY SOME OF THE POINTS WHERE THE AUDIO IS NOT CLEAR OR YOU SOUND LIKE YOU ARE MUMBLING.
yeah I tend to mumble a bit.. hard to stay in the sweet spot for the camera mike.. I have to use a shock/water/dust/cold proof camera because of where it gets used, they tend to have crappy mics
Could so
Can't you edit the video to save precious time?
