      Thanks for watching Lee! I greatly appreciate it! I'll be upgrading my video editing equipment in about 4 more weeks and once I complete the upgrade, I'll be hashing out a lot more content for you guys!

    The part that got skipped in this video is the climb up the "rim of the sombrero" rock scramble. It is the scariest part because it is impossible to climb without disturbing the rocks all crazy. We used to hike it every September in a group and if you're in the back, you could get hit with a tumbling rock. Even if it's small, the rocks pick up speed. Still my favorite hike tho, so thanks for filming! I get to relive the moments I've spent on that rock.

    Awesome country out that way and glad the weather was in your favor. I am glad you were able to take Skyler with you. He is growing up to be a good young man.
    Thanks for sharing. It would be awesome to visit this place sometime with you.

    Beautiful area! We just went through NM but we didn't have time to sight see unfortunately! Thanks for showing us around!

      Thanks for watching Tom! I hope you guys had a great adventure touring the SW. You picked a great time of year to do it! In another month or so, the fire restrictions and partial forest closures will be happening due to the lack of moisture.

    Informative video. I saw Cabezon a few years ago and wondered how climbable it is for somebody who is not keen on dangerous stuff. It looks just tricky enough to be fun, but very doable.

    What a great climb! You showed us this peak from a distance in your "Mesa Magic" video two years ago. The columns on the side of the peak are of the same sort as on Devil's Tower in Wyoming.

    • @TheSouthwestBackpacker
      @TheSouthwestBackpacker  9 лет назад

      Thanks for watching Chris! YES! I was waiting to see if anyone had recognized Cabezon Peak from the "Magic Mesa" series and you are the first! You are a true SW-Backpacker fan! Yeah, the basalt columns you see on the side of the peak look very similar to Devil's Tower in WY. Cabezon Peak is essentially a mini version of Devil's Tower.
      Thanks for making my day my friend!

    Awesome Hike! It's always a nice surprise when you get to the top and the wind isn't howling. Looked like a lot of fun, and I'm sure going down kept you on your toes. It's amazing how different going up and going down can feel. Thanks for sharing! - Chris

    • @TheSouthwestBackpacker
      @TheSouthwestBackpacker  9 лет назад

      Thanks for watching Chris! I first time hiking to the summit of Cabezon Peak was cold and VERY windy. Going up was rather intimidating but going back down was even more so but the sense of accomplishment at the end of the day was felt by all.

    Nice video SWB! New Mexico is definitely my favorite spot (Aside from Montana) to visit... that scenery gets my adventure juices flowin'. I thought I recognized that as El Malpais territory... That area is still one I need to do WAY more exploring. Tippin' a hat to your family and James. Well done.

      Thanks for watching! I have a buddy that lives in Red Lodge,MT (South of Billings I think) but I have never had the chance to go up there to visit. MT is on my bucket list. As always, if the opportunity presents itself, I'll free myself up to go hiking with you and Jason if you guys happen to pass thru here! Take care my friend!

      Thanks for watching! You should do it! I too have driven by it many times and I kept telling myself that one day, I would like to climb up to the top. Thanks to my good friend Sally, I got that opportunity about 7 years ago and she let us up to the top. I loved it so much, I had to share the experience! Gifts that keep on giving!

    Hey Matt, Art here. Have you been to Lost/Horseshoe Lake in the Carson NF? Planning a trip up there in June, going to try to bag Wheelers Peak. Would love to see you do a series about that area. Been to Lake Stewart and Katherine because of your Pecos Wilderness hike. Thank you so much for shareing!

    • @TheSouthwestBackpacker
      @TheSouthwestBackpacker  9 лет назад +1

      Thanks for watching Art! It gives me a good feeling knowing you got to experience the Pecos Wilderness. I think my vids are working the way I intended them to! :-)I know of Horseshoe Lake up in the Carson NF but I still have not been there personally. That is a GREAT suggestion! I'll add it to my bucket list and try to put together a series. I usually like to go to the Carson NF during the summer months to get higher up in elevation and out of the summer heat.
      You will enjoy the hike to Wheeler! It can be done easily in a day. If you happen to record some video during your adventure, I'd love to see it! Thanks again for the great suggestion!

      Thanks for watching! It was an intense hike. All 3 of us said the same thing when we got to the top; "Wow! This would be a great place to set up a tent and do an overnight-er!" Now, If I could just find someone to air drop our backpacks, a cooler, and us via a helicopter. LOL

      Thanks for watching and for the feedback! I greatly appreciate it! This is the first time that I haven't added the musical element into a hiking video. I thought the video felt a bit empty without the music too.

      That's a great question! There are no restroom facilities at all in this area so it's going to be a "Pack it Out" type of situation when it comes to the💩 I'd advise to bring a Lock Tight freezer bag and trowel with you.
