  • The Center for Robotics and Biosystems at Northwestern University is pleased to announce “version zero” of the Dexterity Nexus Testbed, aka “DexNex.” Inspired by the Tactile Telerobot (ieeexplore.iee...) and ANA Avatar XPrize winner (www.xprize.org...) NimbRo (www.nimbro.net..., DexNex enables highly dexterous telemanipulation through near 1-to-1 mapping between Operator movements and Avatar actions. Motion of the Operator's arms, hands, fingers, and head are fed forward to the Avatar, while fingertip pressures, finger forces, and camera images are fed back to the Operator. Built on a ROS2 infrastructure, DexNex aims to minimize the latency of each subsystem to provide a seamless, immersive, and responsive user experience. Most importantly, DexNex is a modular platform that will evolve over time, enabling researchers from across the HAND community and beyond to study the factors that make robot hands, both teleoperated and autonomous, as dexterous as possible. Reach out if you’d like to discuss a project!
