Hi, thanks for watching! I normally complain about Twilight Princess a lot whenever it comes up, so I decided to make an entire video based around the fact that I don't actually hate it. Besides, gaming discussion tends to be so negative anyway - so let's avoid that and just do so, so much praise! I hope you enjoyed it - I'd say this was a very different video for me but I just kinda randomly make whatever I can think of anyway. The only cohesion is that I'm still making Zelda stuff :'D
I always liked the characterization of link in this game...he is an older teen, about to make his own way in the world. He has feelings for his long time friend that he isnt sure what to do with, and the inciting incident doesnt have him go off and save the world its just to save his friends. It also provides great character beats of Rusl being injured but still going to look for the village kids, the zora queen, the other freedom fighters coming to help at the end...just love this one
I love twilight princess, it developed on ocarina of time in such an amazing way in my opinion, the emotions it invokes in the player and the world it creates is one of the best in the series and it will always be one of my favourite games for that.
One of the most frequent “criticisms” of TP is that it was too similar to oot, which is funny because its almost always coming from people who think totk is a 10/10. How are you going to shit on twilight princess for having too similar a formula to oot and then praise a game that has the same artstyle, characters, overworld, general formula, and in some cases even music, as the game that preceded it?
My childhood game, I still remember not knowing English well enough to understand the combat tutorials and needing my older brother to come explain them to me
Twilight Princess is such a unique game in the series. It's the only one that truly captures that feeling of "Epicness" as you described and it does have some of the most characterized and emotional characters in a Zelda game. It has ridiculously good cutscenes and wonderful soundtrack. It also has a very cool and flashy combat system, spiffy items, a large world (for the time), lots of dungeons, and a sick alternate twilight realm thingy. But I feel like this game just underused and underdeveloped everything good about it. Most of it's cool character (The Zora Prince, the Freedom Fighters, all the characters from Ordon Village, Renado, Zelda, Ganondorf, and Zant) never had a chance to be truly developed and quite a few of them never even had their stories really finished. Zant specifically just got thrown to the wayside out of the middle of nowhere. The World is really quite underwhelming, having almost no good sidequests, and honestly feeling quite lackluster and empty. The Combat system is kind of a waste, since you usually only use each move for one or two villains, the combat is pretty easy, and the bow is so overpowered. The items are generally the same as the combat system, underused and simply used. The Dungeons are generally straightforward, and a few are downright boring (namely Temple of Time). And the Twilight realm gets super predictable and monotonous after a while. Still it is a sick game. Just not as good as it could have been.
Twilight princess is still my absolute favorite Zelda game! I personally think it has the most unique story. And Midna is by far the best Companion! My family even named our cat after Minda.
@mystraunt2705 still the combat in TP harder and better than WW but what make it easy is that Link use the shield automatically when you lock on enemy The shields break zelda games in my opinion The only time I saw the shield is useful was In the final phase against majora's mask (I don't play any game in the series after TP I think in my second playthrough will not buy a shield at all
@7hndo_89 I think its mainly the ai, count how many seconds it takes for an enemy to attack you after they notice you, it’s actually ridiculous. Also the bosses in tp are the coolest in the whole series in terms of music, design, and atmosphere, but they are so painfully easy to defeat that I actually dont know what the water temple bosses attacks are in the second phase, ive never seen them? I havnt played the remake on wii u but I doubt that hero mode fixes the ai
As someone who didn't engage with the side quests (cuz the game is already too long as it is) the part about the kid running a whole shop was pretty mind bending to me lol
I have to say, in comparing the two Zelda games on the Wii, Twilight Princess is definitely the better game than Skyward Sword. The music is miles better and I can't remember anything memorable from Skyward Sword.
The only thing I disliked about TP is the only thing I disliked about SS. Filling up those stupid vessels. It's just annoying and wasn't needed. Maybe it was needed for the story, I just hated it so much. Everything else was top notch though.
I know why. The intro turns a lot of people off to the game, it is gonna be like 2 hours of gameplay before you beat the first temple, and thats if you already know exactly how to progress lol. I highly recommend playing this game, the intro is long but worth it I swear. It gets you to get to know the characters so when things happen you actually care.
TP is kind of unlike every other zelda game. There is almost nothing worth exploring and collecting: Bugs just give you money and the only secret Item is the Magic Armor which is pretty underwhelming. Even hidden chests get old because they all just contain rupees, and there is nothing to really buy with them. TP excels at being a fantasy action experience unlike other zelda games. The combat is the most in depth of the series (Apart from maybe TotK with the crafting) There are also many action setpieces that the game forces you into like the battle on the bridge, escorting the wagon, snowboarding, flying with the creatures as a wolf.... Overall It is a unique entry with a nice emphasis on story and is a masterclass in blending linear storytelling and gameplay.
Dungeons, music, and story are the three main components that make a Zelda game which is why Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword are so memorable despite their lack of pacing.
The game would have fine pacing if they would just remove the padding. Same goes for skyward sword. They were worried about these games being too short for some reason. if they invested that time in money into making more random shit to do around hyrule rather than padding out the main story, these games would be more widely loved.
To my mind and I could be wrong with specific games here, but to me Windwaker and Twilight Princess always stood far out because of the fact that they tried to be their own narrative over just "Save the Princess, Save the World". Yea Zelda was still a big player in the narrative, of course, but overall it was not directly about her but about stopping whatever evil was trying to rock the world this time around. Come to think of it, the Oracle games and Minish Cap are the same way. I wonder if that is why these 5 games are to date my favorite titles. Zelda, in them, always felt more like a side character. (Apart from a linked game in the Oracle games but you get me.) Hell in one she even IS a side character in the form of Terra. You wont even know its her until much later in the game.
I suppose Majoras Mask also falls under the category I mentioned. Completely forgot it since Zelda wasnt in it when I talked about not having to actually think about Zelda xD
This is the closest we will get to an m rated zelda game and I loved it then and I love it now. Also.... this seems to be a hot take now and idk why..... linear games are fun. Having some ability to explore always makes it more fun but I dont get the obsession with completely open worlds now. Some games work great with it but I believe that zelda games worked better when they were more linear because we were able to get a more cinematic experience. This comes with downsides. Replayability suffers for some people. But I also dont find useless collectables fun and I find I burn out playing open worlds sometimes. Games like elden ring work compared to dark souls because that is new to the franchise. But to be honest I dont want all main souls games in the future to follow that formula (IK ER isnt a "souls" game but you know what I mean). IDK I like open world games and I want more well made ones but I also dont want cinematic more linear games to disappear because of it. I would love another zelda like this one
When you read about all the Ura Zelda stuff and compare it to Twilight Princess (especially the GameCube version), you really start to see that TP was Ura Zelda all along
When I first played this game in 2006, I felt fairly confident it was better than Ocarina of Time. As time has gone on and even currently replaying the HD version, I no longer feel that way. There's just too much padding and pacing issues, too empty an overworld, and a lot of lackluster characters. That all being said, this is still an excellent game. When it comes to combat and dungeons, Twilight Princess has a strong claim for number 1.
Please help me understand because I see this complaint a lot. Why is it so bad the world is a little empty? The main quest is already pretty long, so after all the wallet, bomb, quiver, bridge upgrades, and collecting all the bugs, I usually dont want to do any more sidequests. Im not downplaying your opinion I just want to understand it
@@mystraunt2705 Personally I just wish they'd remove some of the main quest padding/backtracking and add more side quests/secrets to find in the overworld.
@themastersword1621 Completely agree. Should have spent that time and money they spent on padding out the quest on just making more random shit to do around hyrule.
It's so unnecessarily edgy but I feel like that kind of adds to the charm a bit? It really does help this game stand out against the rest, that's for sure!
