Where Hitchens cashes out is that he claims incorrectly that the first port of call in punishment is death and that simply not correct. To find two men guilty of having sex and then activating the ruling of death would be extremely difficult in the extreme, where multiple parts of the crime must be proven and those different parts again in the extreme. So refreshing to listen to someone like Waleed calmly discussing issues. A rarity on Q & A panel. Yes Hitchens was a great intellect but so is Waleed he just manages to give his opinion without denigrating others.
When was this, January 2010? A few months before Gillard became Prime Minister. She was openly atheist. They mention Whitlam but nobody was sure; silly, given he too was proudly atheist and had major barneys with various Christian churches.
Waleed Aly is an educated and intelligent man, but he is trapped within the confines of an archaic, man-made philosophy from 1400 years ago, one that should never have made it past the dark ages. In a democratic society such as ours, more tolerant and open to freedom of speech, belief and action than most in the world, Aly has the chance to cast aside the superstitious, dogmatic straightjacket he wears. But this requires honest self-examination and a preparedness to think individually, something for which the adherents of Islam are not well known. The same goes for other religious organisations - these comments are not aimed solely at Islam. Faith based religions are relics of the past and as cognisant beings we need to grow up and embrace the future without mystical props and fear of divine retribution. The late great Christopher Hitchens would have annihilated Aly in a one-on-one conversation on the matter. We all know that, and I have no doubt that Aly also knows it. Aly must have breathed a huge sigh of relief that he was protected from Hitchens’ full force by the rapid soundbite formula of Q&A, which prevents any attempt at comprehensive discussion. I love the Hitch as much as most, but come on people, this isn't a win for him, this is like Waleed taking on Kyosta Tszu or a Jeff Fennech in a 12 round boxing match
If you understand even remotely the subject matter it was actually more like Czin Tao and the Victory at Haratchi.
God, you people in the comments are so thick. Waleed gave an accurate and honest answer to the question; it's not on him if you can't understand it
Walled, like yourself, lied because he had no reasonable position.
see the evil look on Waleed.. I would never trust him.
Like someone can trust you... man made religion idiot
5:15 their is some manifesto you can download from the net. It's called the Quran, and Muslims widely consider it the word of Allah himself. And the answer is "yes, Islam considers homosexuality a sin."
>inb4 'not ALL muslims'
Waleed is a terrible liar. What he's in effect saying is that Islam is whatever you want it to be.
Take Jihad - there's a consistent opinion that it's to do with war, across all four Islamic schools of jurisprudence, across the life of Islam.
That consensus shows what Islam teaches
So what wally is saying that the Koran is Not final authority and is therefore Not inspired by God therefore written by man therefore a false region Not from God.
Thanks for the confirmation Waleeeeeeed.
That Aly person is totally twisted by ideological nonsense.
Waleed Aly talking complete crap its headache worthy listening to him avoiding the question with such gymnastics
"What is your repository for your list of Islamic conclusions"
Um...the Koran? Wtf waleed
Hitchens knew more about religion than these religious folks. The problem is that sometimes ignorance cannot be cured . Hitchens could preach all day and these religious people would still be none the wiser
"There is no book that's called Islamic law"
Um .....sharia law?
So refreshing to listen to someone like Waleed calmly discussing issues. A rarity on Q & A panel.
Yes Hitchens was a great intellect but so is Waleed he just manages to give his opinion without denigrating others.
Loretta Clark I’m assuming that is sarcasm.
Loretta Clark I’m assuming that is sarcasm.
Well you know what they say about assuming
@@lorettaclark5373 I assume that you are an irrational idiot.
mohummed is really spelt Muthamam
Aly, always lying no matter what.
“There’s no book of Islamic law, no body that says this is what Islam teaches”.
Is he Muslim?
When was this, January 2010? A few months before Gillard became Prime Minister. She was openly atheist.
They mention Whitlam but nobody was sure; silly, given he too was proudly atheist and had major barneys with various Christian churches.
Waleed "blah blah blah blah blah blah.........."
Christopher Hitchens, you are sorely missed. By the way, we are still waiting for your answer on whether homosexuality is a sin Waleed Aly...
Walleeed weed head
Which post colonial world Waleed? Islamic colonialism??
Typical waleed
The weed dodging questions
Waleed is a joke, he should not of been up there.
Aly is trying to fit in a world is accepting the real issue of Islam. This view is of Aly that Islam has no central control is not true ,in all mosques the imams are making the law!!!
Waleed, what do YOU think Islam says about homosexuality? What do YOU as a "Muslim" believe about homosexuality? Please, tell the world! (If Tony Fatface actually had a brain/spine he would ask these questions.)
