    This hospital, and House are the only hospital I have seen do the work of nursing staff and technologists. Hanging I.V.bags , operating the CT - Scanners and MRIs , doing lab work too . If they were doing rotating internships, they would be 20% of the work they do . There some doctors that will look at specimens under the microscope, but it's rare .

    • @Primus54
      @Primus54 7 месяцев назад +12

      No doubt the producers took some creative license with reality, the fictional “reasoning” being the team members are all working under fellowships in a highly specialized department, therefore they must “experience” all aspects of medicine. In reality, the show would have gotten prohibitively expensive had they added a bunch of “specialists and technicians” to the cast.

    • @onumaytuu
      @onumaytuu 7 месяцев назад +5

      @@Primus54 : Yes the writers and producer took creative liberties in the program . But physicians have to lab in pre-med and med school . They are not allowed to operate the CT-Scanners , MRIs and X-Ray equipment. They can do ultrasounds . A lot place in the US and Canada removed the rotating internship out their med schools , New York State was the first , and hospitals were reluctant to " quick fast " residents with having the internship program, the hospital's insured didn't like . My feeling is that with a rotating internship, the med students are missing out on valuable experience. The only physicians that hang I.V.s bags are Anesthetists , they kind of work alone , unless they are training a nurse practitioner or RT . You won't see Doctors looking for I.V. bags and hanging meds . In hospitals there a clear division of labor . If you have not been trained and certified to operate hospital equipment, you can't do it . Technologists have specific training and know the equipment inside and out . The hospital on the program is like a country club . Doctors having time to do duties that nursing staff do . In a real hospital Doctors don't have the time , in an emergency they will do somethings that are done nursing staff , but they are not trained to operate the I.V. pumps . Doctors still have a difficult program to get through.

Senior staff available if they have questions. ) In teaching hospitals a nurse could be pulled from a unit by the night supervisor to help on a unit that was short staffed . Didn't make difference which unit . ICU could have recovery room nurses pulled . Labour and delivery, internal medicine, maternity etc , any nurse could work these areas . But with unions and advanced degrees , now nurses can work the speciality they are trained . Usually nurses try get into a clinic or day job when have children. I knew nurses that worked 12 years of nights , because their husbands took care kids in the evening and night . They came home got the ready for school, then hit the bed . His leg drives him to solve puzzles (diagnose patients) to get his dopamine high and ease the pain. In his apartment you can also see tomes upon tomes of medical textbooks, journals, and case files. Very interesting, I have found "House." It would seem a lot of research/consultation of medical personnel/consultation went into these episodes. The problem that I find, and bugs me, is the lack of realism in the hospital procedures and environment. Physicians do not perform MRI's, do not draw blood, do not do laboratory processing. These are ALWAYS done by techs, nurses and lab techs, ALWAYS. Physicians, nurses and techs are ALWAYS busy as heck, no time for prime time drama. Still I do enjoy this series.

    Her memory is the only thing that's made her special, and she wastes her life by being a waitress. Because it "feels good"

      It’s comfortable. She knows what to expect. Low chance of pain occurring to her in a safe place.

    Instead of doing my med anatomy homework, I'm watching this and nitpicking the errors in med lingo and care....
    If only real life cases were that varied and interesting. It's mostly old people surprised their hip broke at 87yrs young, old people dying of just dustifying and being old... And of course people having trauma and breaks due to iditicism.
    And a dollop of cancer, that usually kills the good ones. Young parents, newlyweds, just out of rehab and reformed people etc. the people who kill and rob, either on the streets or in bank offices, survive much more. I don't believe in god, but there is a comedian with a black heart somewhere pulling strings.
