He was in a horrible looking place, he looked thin and sad, and the keepers were terrible with him, they only gave him the tiniest carrot, he wanted more you could see he was so hungry! 七仔/Qi Zai is currently in Foping Panda Canyon/Valley in Shaanxi Province. But during mating season in spring, he might move to Qinling Giant Panda Breeding Centre in Shaanxi Province .
He doesn’t need to go to Sichuan to breed, there are plenty of females in Qinling to breed with. They have been trying to breed him since 2017 - artificial insemination has been carried out with at least 6 different females in the last 4 years, and he’s also successfully naturally mated with Zhu Zhu and An An in the spring of 2020. Zhu Zhu even gave birth to a male cub in October of 2020, but the father of her cub hasn’t been announced yet. So there’s a chance that Qi Zai might be the father. However, Zhu Zhu mated with another male at the same time, so DNA testing is needed to ascertain who the father is, and there’s no announcement yet, as far as I know. I’m hoping Qi Zai is the father. Keep in mind that brown pandas don’t necessarily produce offspring that is brown as well. A female brown panda, Dan Dan, gave birth to a normal-colored offspring that had the normal panda color.
@@rramon2766 they actually do mix the two to produce offspring and already have for two decades now. They actually started breeding pandas by bringing a Sichuan panda, Xue Xue, up to Qinling and she produced daughter Lou Sheng. Now there’s four generations of Xue Xue’s family under one roof. So all the offspring that’s generated from Xue Xue are all not pure-bred Qinling pandas. In addition, they’ve moved many other Sichuan females up to Qinling and they’ve also produced offspring of mixed breed. So there’s probably not even one single pure-bred Qinling captive panda offspring at the present moment, other than a very, very few rescued wild Qinling males.
Actually at the time of this video, he was already a sub-adult and when they reach that age they will be separated because Pandas are solitary animal and may fight due to their territorial instinct.
