Mono line can get loops in it from the reel. A spray bottle of line conditioner is an amazing cost effective way to help. I got a bottle of KVD line conditioner and it lasted four years. Less issues with line memory for less than $20.

You are absolutely right but for the beginner, in my opinion, that's an extra step that's not really necessary. I still use mono on one of my rods for trolling but ha e never used a line conditioner and while I get the occasional line looping, it's not a big deal.

Spooling your reel will be a part that comes after the next episode though, so I'll be talking about line twist and conditioner there

Hrm.. hard to diagnose this issue without seeing whats going on with my own eyes, but my guess is it's either really old line on your spool, or you have it overspooled with line.
I'm finishing this series now and episode 5 might help you out with this, it's about how to spool line onto a spinning reel and I talk about some of the reasons you don't want to over or underspool your reels
