It's the shiny that will be remembered, it is the journey you take to get there that will be.
I wasn't expecting to be quite so emotional upon finding Staryu but I let it all out. It was a grind for this and it was worth every krabby and kingler.

Truly! I never felt that way before from getting a shiny, I felt pretty overwhelmed honestly.
@@JCBLPs back in 2020 I failed a Giratina in Platinum, which was my first shiny fail. I found it again 23k soft resets later. It was such a nerve racking capture and I ended up having to use my master ball because it was about to struggle to death. That's a moment I will always remember.
2 months late to this video, but I am glad to see this nonetheless. Staryu/Starmie is my all-time favourite pokemon + shiny, and I love seeing people hunt it in HGSS. I got a 10% shiny one on Route 47 after 4 years on and off, and no other shiny has meant as much to me as that one. Excellent job on the dedication and commitment, from one Staryu grinder to another.

@@JCBLPs I initially did surfing because I wanted to play through the remainder of the game with it (hadn't even beaten E4), but then eventually moved on. I did do a fishing phase afterwards, and had initially intended to get it that way - but one day I decided to switch back to surfing for an hour to switch things up for fun, and by sheer dumb luck I got it in that hour.
Just coming back to this because for all the storytelling and entertainment I can’t believe you don’t have more views / subs. This video is incredible

What’s your plan for the staryu? Evolving it? I’m currently in the process of ev training my shiny team on hgss to try and gold badge all the battle frontier areas. Would be cool to try and do the same with some of your shinies
No plans to evolve it. All I did was give it a shiny crown by finding 5 shiny leaves in the game. Now it will just be cherished

Man, I thought going 65k and spending 8 months of my life for a weedle in firered was rough lmao. Getting a shiny like that feels like you've climbed a fucking mountain. No idea why it took yt so long to show me your channel but congrats regardless!
65k is insane, too, that's no small feat. It is the 1st time I had gone that many phases for a shiny so it became pretty special.
Huge congrats and kudos for persevering through the hunt! Just finished my own Staryu hunt in LG (not nearly as many encounters or phases, but still a couple of Krabs LMAO), so I definitely felt it when you said how worth it the final result was!

Your video did make me curious about something though; you mentioned WSHC at the beginning of the video. Did WSHC/ISHC go away? I feel like it's been years since I've seen any mention of those events. I never fully understood what they were in the first place/who actually organized them, and it always seemed like kind of a strange concept to me. Just wondering if you had any insights! Congrats again!!
Yes the ISHC & WSHC both went away for good which was a good thing in the long run. To put it simply it created far too much drama and toxicity and so as a community it was stopped.

Quick question: how do your capture cards have such a clear resolution? Is that because of some particular OBS settings? Mine seems way more blurry and I can't figure out why :/
Yea so if you right click your capture card in the sources section of OBS go to scale filtering and point.
You can also do this on the capture software itself. Just right click the window and go to scaling then point.

I’m on phase 10 of a 20% metapod. Might be time to switch off for a bit.
I always recommend breaks from a hunt especially going so many phases. Hopefully metapod arrives soon!
trust me I feel your pain phasing sucks… but you do know a 30% is expected like 5+ phases right ? I know it ended up taking more but bro seemed baffled by phase 2.
@@Cainb23 At that point I wasn't really used to Phasing multiple times during a hunt, perhaps it played a role.

Nothing better than getting a shiny you’ve been hunting forever. Congrats! Is this the most efficient way to get shiny staryu in gen 4 (surfing or platinum?)? Does illuminate help with fishing? Or could you do this with a synchronize Pokemon for timid staryu?
Appreciate any answers as I’m fairly new to shiny hunting and only have mareep, totodile, dratini and a poke radar larvitar so far
Illuminate I am not 100% sure if it does help, I've just always lead with a Staryu, maybe its just a habit now. As for most efficient I'd advise you click the twitter link about fishing in HGSS as it explains the friendship and where to check it in game.

Unfortunately in Platinum there is no 100% way to always get a bite. I did a fishing hunt in Platinum using suction cups and I'd still get failed casts.
I wanted to add that yes Synchronize would work but it's not guaranteed in these Generations. Also very nice on the Poke Radar Larvitar, I absolutely loved Radar in Platinum
