I think the hardest part is the wave of regret that hits you over your life decisions. “If I had done this, if I had been smarter, etc.” Or at least that’s just me, since I tend to take these sorts of things personally.

Can totally resonate with that. Most of the scholarships that apply for black men who AREN'T interested in HBCU's are for high grads with stellar GPAs and other accolades. It's hard for me to go for more than an hour without the waves of regret for not taking high school seriously. Even now, I can't help but curse my carelessness.

This was an amazing video! I just got rejected from a scholarship for a summer programme that I had been really excited for. It feels terrible because it makes you seem like you're not good enough, especially since I was quite proud of the essay that I had submitted, but you're absolutely right, maybe my story just wasn't right for them. This video really made me feel better, I'm going to keep trying! :)

That's the spirit! It can be really frustrating, but ultimately, don't let it keep you from applying for other scholarships/programs. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for this video! I have been feeling really discouraged lately. I've been applying since mid-October 2019 and I have applied to $69,900 worth of scholarships. Most of the scholarships individually are worth $1000 or less, and I haven't received one. I have a goal of earning my graduate degree debt free. There are days I seriously feel like giving up on applying. The video was exactly what I needed. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Thank you so much for this video. Your perspective was exactly what I needed to now not feel..should I say broken. I have won scholarships last year and since have been motivated to apply to more where I thought my story would be funded. I recently was rejected from a county scholarship program of 8 scholarships. I feel I can say I have been rejected out of 7 of them so far officially. I also have been recently rejected for a local scholarship that I also felt like a perfect fit for with *local* applicants where I believe my story would shine. I will admit it broke me to hear some of classmates getting to attend the award ceremony while I sat reflecting why my story was anything but inspiring. But hearing your perspective that my story may just not have been the one that particular organization wanted to fund helped me realize not to give up on scholarships in my educational journey. Again, thanks.

The worst part is that this school I applied to (i got into the program btw) is actually free to EU citizens but because I am not an EU citizen I have to pay tuition and I can't and they rejected my scholarship application too. Sooo this sucks

      @@TheGrownUpMillennial thanks for the response.
      How is your college/education going?
My disappointment is that I invested more than a year. Took classes for GRE, preparation and test taking and IELTS/TOEFL (I am from someplace where english is not the native language). Good score in both of those tests. Looking for universities, applying, worrying, waiting. I really did all these over the span of more than 15 months. And what do I get? sorry for scholarship or assistantship, and go ahead for admission. I can't afford Masters in USA like many many people. So I thought preparing a year would be good (as an effort and also as an investment). Many people get scholarship this way. But it doesn't turn out positively for me. I really am heartbroken. This video of yours has helped a bit for consoling myself. But I still feel there is more unfair side to it for me. Much love, wishes and hugs.

@@Shradda_Joshi I'm so sorry to hear that, that must be very frustrating. This probably won't be very consoling, but scholarships are not very common for masters programs in the U.S., even for Americans. So it's not necessarily a reflection on you, just a consequence of a tough system. I wish you luck on your educational efforts!
