- Eaton Railway is a 15" gauge railway it runs just four times a year when Eaton Hall opens it's gardens to the public.
Our holiday was based around this Open day.
We arrived early so that we could ride and video this lovely railway,we were told tickets sell out fast for the early trains. When we arrived back at the station all the morning trains had sold out and they were only booking for the afternoon trains,we were very lucky.
The railway runs from the station around the grounds in a loop then back to the station terminus where it waters up and returns to it's train to leave loco in reverse, the engine can be turned in the triangle if needed.
A delightful location Chris, and that steam loco was a real beauty....Regards...Bob
I have just added another video of the gardens at Eaton Hall although a bit rushed due to travelling to other railways. You just wouldn't believe how big the grounds are you could fit a large town in that area.......Best wishes Chris
Wow ! that is some Railway there just a few Acres LOL !, great video
Just a few! the railway runs in only a small area, this place is massive, the road leading up to the house must be a mile long if not more, well worth a visit......Regards Chris.
This looks a great Railway...Plenty of track....Very nice....... best wishes...Steve.
We are very lucky to get a ride on this one Steve as it on open four times a year to the public. The grounds you just wouldn't believe how big the park and gardens are,you could put a small town inside it........Best wishes Chris
Another very interesting video! I'll have to see if Eaton Hall has any open days this year!
We were lucky as we got to the hall before it opened, so we were one of the first few in,went to the railway and got tickets for the first train. After a couple of trips she failed. I don't know why or if it came on again later..Some lovely gardens at the hall.
As a Ratty volunteer, it's great to see the progenitor of our line!
We had to make the effort to visit and film this railway, nice to see Katie, how is the restoration of the original coming on?.......Regards Chris
Can't believe that I've lived in this area most of my life, and only just heard about this Railway 2-3 years ago lol. Have you visited the Grosvenor Park Miniature Railway?, that's not far from here, it's a short but pleasant ride. Love your videos by the way, longtime lurker but first time commenter :)
Hi Mark. Many thanks for commenting, nice to know you enjoy my videos..I know some can be a bit boring watching the train ride, but this is done for my own records on the railway...It's amazing just how many railways we have in GB,Like you many have said the same, that they didn't know a railway was so close to them. We have been to Grosvenor Park railway in Chester, sadly the railway was closed when we visited, but still on the list to ride...You have a lot of miniature railways in your area,so enjoy riding them....Regards Chris
A large part of the team are from Llangollen and the Eaton hall railway once went to the network. This line was built in 2000 but the original in Victorian times. I'm also only a village away from here and most people in the area work here.
Yes the driver said he worked on the Llangollen railway until he got the job here looking after the railway........Cheers Chris
It's a gorgeous railway.
It really is,to enjoy the location more, watch my video of the Eaton Hall gardens, they are lovely and you might get an idea of just how big these grounds are........Cheers Robert and thanks for watching my videos..........Regards Chris
Cheers. Sorry for how long its taken to reply.
Great video. I recognize the loco im sure the Ravenglass has a replica in there museum of katie.
Actually this is the replica, the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway bought the original Katie from Eaton when the original line closed, and they recently rebuilt/restored Katie based on what was left of the original loco.
Ticklish HoneyBee oh right i was never 100% sure which was which. Thanks
Hi.This Katie was built in 1994....The original was sold to Ravenglass & Eskdale rly, then sold again to the Llewellyn M.R in Southport,in 1923 she was again sold to the Fairbourne M.R where she operated until scrapped in 1926,parts of the original Katie are back at Ravenglass being rebuilt using Katies original frames and some other parts.
Another Replica of Katie is being constucted at the Perrygrove Railway in Gloucestershire. I hope that helps you
That looks a fun size
On the border line of miniature at 15 inch gauge, still a very nice railway.Just a shame the steamer failed......Regards Chris
Yay! Real steam!!!
A bit short on real steam! this weekend but we can only film what is on show.......Chris
Hi Chris, great video this one! Been watching your videos for a while but I've never commented as of yet.
