    Yeh Good Job Man! Im about to start the same job, decking around a semi- unground pool. Im going to try to make the deck go over the edge of the pool at same height.

      Did you build yours yet? I'm curious to know how you got the decking over the pool top rail at the same height, or just above.

      @@ChestnutRidgeWorkshop No i decided it would all be too tricky come replacing the pool liner, with the deck over the top. After much thought and plans, i decided to get an in ground pool and problem solved. Thanks for your video and reply. :)

    you are clearly a master carpenter and your work looks fantastic the only thing is that we can´t apply the video to making our deck through lack of specialist tools.

      I am certainly no master carpenter, but I appreciate the compliment! I think the only special tool I used was the router really. The post hole machine was rented from Home Depot. Everything else can be done with basic hand tools and a circular saw. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

    Is the top edge of you pool wall, strong enough to stand on since you built you pool deck to go under the top rail? I see everyone seems to build there pool decks this way. For above ground pools

    • @ChestnutRidgeWorkshop
      @ChestnutRidgeWorkshop  4 года назад

      Actually the main reason I did it this way, and I think others do, is that if you bring the deck over the pool top rail, it would have to be 10 or 12 inches above the rail to clear the joists whatever size they are. That said, yes they are rated for 250lbs on the rails.

    I installed the same deck close to the pool. It looked great but I noticed one thing is that it is not easy to put the winter cover on. I only had just enough for the cover to go through and had to pull the cover from underneath the deck. It was a real pain. I also don't like the idea that you can stand on the edge of the pool. It bends the top rails. The next one is going to be about an inch over the pool so that there will be easier to put the winter cover on and the top rails wouldn't be touched

    • @ChestnutRidgeWorkshop

      If you deck over the pool rails how are you supporting the boards above the pool rails?

    • @CrowCreekOutdoors
      @CrowCreekOutdoors 11 месяцев назад

      I wish I’d built mine flush with the top edge of the top rail with a 1/2” gap for the cover, but that’s hindsight. I went back & built a hexadecagonal ledge in 5’ sections to fit just under my pool’s top rail for support. Just cut the deck board pieces to fit together, measured between them & the deck surface, ripped strips that width, and then shot them to the underside edges of each piece. Each piece slides just under the top rail to fit together, and each section is held in place with a couple 3” screws on each end so they can easily be removed in the winter to cover it or to replace the liner.

    how do you get the pool cover on with deck boards so close to rail?

    • @ChestnutRidgeWorkshop
      @ChestnutRidgeWorkshop  3 года назад +1

      I left enough room to pull the cover between the deck and the rail. Works just fine actually.

    any drainage rock before the concrete? also those piers are approximately 42" x 12"?

    • @ChestnutRidgeWorkshop
      @ChestnutRidgeWorkshop  3 года назад +1

      There's roughly 12" of gravel in the bottom before the concrete. Drainage isn't really the goal for me however because I hit the water table before the bottom of the hole. The tubes I think are 12" yes, maybe 10.
