    i tried to save the CNAME but it says DNS zone file is invalid. any help?

    • @carbondigitalus

      It's typically 1/2 options.
      1. Your host is preventing it. Which would be a big problem. Generally, not a problem you can solve.
      2. There is already a DNS record with the same name. Check the "host" name (likely cdn.domain.com), and look to see if you have an existing "A" record. If not, refer to problem 1. If so, then proceed. You can't have an "A" record and a "CNAME" record with the same "host". So, just delete the "A" record and create your new "CNAME" record.

    I'm having some difficulty getting this up and running. We went and created about a dozen categories and a dozen tags that should be common to use. I found how to add a list of the categories to the page either by widget or short code but it is an all or nothing type deal. How can I get it to only show the categories I want? 2nd. How do you actually attach the tags I created to the videos? You figured there would be a way to just show you the list of tags and you select them just it does for categories. 3rd. Is there a way to insert a list of the tags onto the website and when the tags is clicked on it will show you the videos for that tag?

      Note: Please keep in mind that it typically costs $50k-100k to launch a quality video hosting platform like RUclips. And that's just the starting cost because it will require more to keep it running.
      Not sure if we've processed this correctly, but here goes. First of all, it clearly sounds like you need to bring in a developer. Secondly, problems like this are very hard to debug without being inside the website. Which you would need to hire us in order for that to happen.
      So, now that this "disclaimer" is out of the way, here goes...
      1. The easiest solution is to only use categories you need. Anything more and you'll likely need to pay for advanced search and filter software, or have a developer manually code a solution.
      2. Again, it's hard to solve without knowing your setup. Within WordPress, you can only use tags in a "post". A CPT would be a good solution to leverage, especially when combined with ACF.

      ACF Ref:

      3. Don't know of any plugin that will do this. Since we have full stack JavaScript and PHP developers in house, we just write the code for this. You'll likely need to do the same.

    Great instructions. One hitch was that my Zone Editor didn't allow me to change the A record to a CNAME record. So I couldn't complete the branded subdomain part. Thoughts? Contact the web host?

    • @carbondigitalus
      @carbondigitalus  3 года назад

      First, delete the A record. Then you can create the CNAME record. If that doesn't work, or your host doesn't allow it, then you'll have to contact them.

      @@carbondigitalus Hey Jared thanks for the tutorial, actually i also couldn't add the CNAME of my subdomain (cdn.hodst.com) in the zone editor. however in the zone record list there was an entry (www.cdn.hodst.com) already there so i changed the CNAME for that and it accepted the change.
      Do you think i can use that instead of making a subdomain ?

    • @carbondigitalus
      @carbondigitalus  3 года назад

      @@Hassan_Omer Right. You can only have 1 CNAME or A record. So, if you've already got one there, updating it with the Bunny info should be fine. I'd probably remove the "www" though if you're not using it.

      Thanks for the feedback. Just because something is free doesn't mean it's better. Also, if you'll notice, this video doesn't compare services amongst providers. It's only a tutorial for one provider.

    For the zone editor, there is no A type and Cname type, and it only shows a MX type but I can’t change to Cname, so how can I do

    • @carbondigitalus
      @carbondigitalus  2 года назад

      Sounds like you need to contact your hosting company. The zone editor "normally" allows you to edit all of your DNS records. If you don't have the ability to edit everything, then your hosting company is blocking your access. Which is common on "managed" hosting, and low-tier solutions.

      @@carbondigitalus what would be hosting company refer to .. I’m a little confused

    • @carbondigitalus
      @carbondigitalus  2 года назад +1

      @@joezzz7316 It's hard to figure out what the problem is without seeing it. Here are some options for resolution.
      1. The subdomain is created first. When you create a subdomain, through the subdomain tool, the records are auto-created for you. Then you just need to modify.
      2. Creating the subdomain via the tool, for the sole purpose of this video, it will create problems with some hosting companies. Couldn't tell you why, as it's a host specific problem, but it happens. If this is the case, then move on to below. Delete anything created to not create problems later.
      3. Instead of creating a subdomain via the tool, create it manually. This means go into your zone editor and manually add the "A" and "CNAME" records for your intended subdomain (example here was "cdn"). It's effectively the same thing, but without the extra stuff that is created when you use the subdomain tool.
