The sharks earned that pick
hard work always pays off, ask the Blackhawks
Tanking shouldn't be rewarded
@@HockeyRiveNord Weird thing it isn't but at the end, NHL is just a business like every other modern day sports
Yeah they really tried their hardest to lose as much as possible, they deserve a parade!
@@HockeyRiveNord What a low IQ take. You want couple of already strong teams getting all the talented young players each year and weak teams just keep going downhill?
The last team Tij Iginla should play for is Calgary. He needs to go to a non-traditional market, where he can play and be his own man. He doesn’t need to be constantly compared to his dad
Strong point.
I legit never thought of it this way
Matthew and Brady never had that problem in Calgary and Ottawa, why would Tij?
@@SpaceForce635 Because their dad wasn't a legend in Calgary or Ottawa
@@shawnwharry952 Euh? I live on the overside of the pound, in a non traditional ice-hockey country, but whenever I hear Tkachuk drop, it's the fathers name I imaging.
Celebrini said he wanted to play for San Jose (his hometown) so that's pretty cool that he gets to.
(his hometown = same hometown as Connor Bedard: North Vancouver, BC, Canada
The kid grew up in my back yard.Im in Vancouver.
So maybe not "hometown". More "childhood home".
He was born in Vancouver. His family moved to San Jose, his father took a job with the Golden State Warriors. He even played for the Junior Sharks. So he lived in San Jose for a bit of his childhood. He's mentioned this in interviews and how he would love to return there.
Nugent-Hopkins is a solid player and had 104 points last season, you can make the argument he isn’t first overall material but he will always be my favourite player on the Oil.
Good gaaawd, I am pulling for you guys. Praying!!! - a blues fan
True he might not be 1st overall worthy after these years but he's still probably the Oilers best draft pick from 09-15
Love 93. He stuck with the team through off years and it paid off when we got lucky drafting 97. This guy is a consistency machine, and that’s a valuable asset in the nhl. I am dying to see Nuge lift a cup in an oilers jersey. Here’s hoping the boys fight through any series coming their way.
Went to high school with him. Solid dude, married his high school sweetheart who is a total babe haha.
@@bungdilly6333that’s awesome
I mean maybe Nuge was slightly disappointing but he still is a great defender and had over 100 points last year
He was worth 1st overall. He's not a superstar, though. Career average has him at like a 65 pt guy. Superstars by game 1000 typically have 1 ppg careers. SJ will hope Celebrini is a PPG guy.
I don’t think he was disappointing, he’s become a solid reliable part of an organization for over 10 years, how many players with big expectations never come close?
@@brianschryver8314yea I don’t really think he is but too who he was compared to I agree to those expectations he has been disappointing
As someone who goes to BU and saw Celebrini play this past year, his Hockey IQ and game knowledge is what impressed me the most. He was able to consistently find the right place to be at the right time, and is gonna translate volumes into the NHL
Pavs and the Stars knock out the glitter knights AND SJ gets the first overall? Turning into a wonderful week.
As a Red Wings fan I've given up completely on the draft. Thanks for the recap.
This could’ve been a god year to jump to 5. Hopefully the last chance we’ll have to pick that high.
Dubois getting a spot is hilarious 😂😂😂😂
Congratulations to SJ, their team truly bottomed out and with less than 20 wins the fanbase deserves this lol
As a Oilers fan you should know everything about that.
@@Cedisdead Didn’t watch the NHL back in the early 2010s lol
@@SaveznaRepublikaJugoslavija so you don't know about your own history because you didn't watch NHL back then? Maybe you should start learning
@@Cedisdead I do lol. But why do people keep bringing it up whenever I talk about current lottery teams?
@@SaveznaRepublikaJugoslavija because your team is famous for getting lucky and wasting first round picks
Might be a little bias as a sharks fan but out of all the situations a 1st overall pick can find themselves in... San Jose is pretty damn good. Warm weather aside props to them as an organization for realizing they weren't competing with their core after 2020 and were actually willing to tank and lose revenue to make a Push again in the future. So many teams have owners who don't want to lose out on ticket sales and are happy to stay in no man's land rather than tear it down.
Congrats to San Jose, you have a chance at a Generational Talent in your hands
Die hard islanders fan for 16 years now. Never could find myself rooting for any other team, but I’m starting to like the sharks ever since this year. Think I’ll become a good fan of them now, need a west coast team to cheer for. #LGS
Hell yeah! Gotta say - Isles always been (by far) my fav of the 3 NY + 1 NJ teams. Cheers
As someone who has been watching the draft closely since 1990, I can tell you that Ryan Nugent-Hopkins actually had very little buzz compared to the average presumptive Number 1. His numbers were pretty standard (His draft -1 season was just over a point-per-game and his draft year itself saw him score a decent, but not crazy, 106 points in 69 games.) He didn't make the WJC team as an underager and the THN Draft Preview had 4 players on the cover that season, instead of the usual one (Larsson/RNH/Couturier/Landeskog).
Demidov in the 4 feathers, ok!
the sharks deserve this
love you man continue the good work
I'm just happy its not Chicago.
Rent free in ur head
I’m just sad it’s not Chicago.
Why?
@@zoopie9935he's not about to tell you!😅 If he told you the truth he sounds like a Jackass.. it's no way you can get around it.. I know why.. it just sounds like 'King Hater' if he said what he was thinking.. so you're likely won't get an answer or one that's fitting to the question..
I've done stuff like this with my Detroit Lions.. asking simple questions that basically set people up to sound like the biggest hater of all time if they answer it..😅
And what do most people do??.. go ghost 👻 on ya..😅
So just food for thought..
With you, that org deserves nothing
Man, Utah is already up and going. This one seems to have been cookin in the books for a while now.
Same Nuge is my fav Oiler along with McDavid
sharks fan here to report our first win of the season LETS GO
we’re in dire need of some identifiable leadership and a franchise icon, since all we really have left from the 2019 run is.. idk Vlasic and Couture?
RNH had a 52 pt rookie season, Bedard 61. An extra 9 points really means that much to you? IMO either you have RNH way too low in esteem, or you think too much of Bedard.
I like RNH, but he did have a few players to play with that year, including Taylor Hall before he fell off the planet. Bedard did it himself and even missed several games, still kept going. I dont think him saying that RNH didnt quite live up to Joe Sakic-level predictions is a bad thing. I personally hate how scouts pick a player to compare these kids to.
@@tomp6879 Pretty sure Bedard also has Taylor Hall. So that's pretty even. Both teams were bottom-dwellers. If anything Bedard is in a higher-scoring NHL era. RNH's rookie season if you adjust it to this era's average goal totals would be a 59 point season, so only 2 behind Bedard. IMO people both over-hype Bedard and under-value RNH. Moreover, RNH played only 62 games as a rookie, and Bedard 68. So RNH's adjusted point per game total is higher than Bedard's.
@@ryanbudney3356 Like I said, I like RNH. I just feel what he said about RNH wasnt that offensive. Just that he didnt live up to Joe Sakic comparisons. Jury is still out on Bedard. We'll see what he does.
Bedard missed 15 games. Paced for 75 points.
@@johnparkour5894 Correct, and RNH missed 20. If you take their PPG averages and adjust for the era, RNH had a better offensive rookie season.
Celebrini ceiling is TJ Oshie, floor is Brendan Saad
Celebrini has connections with the Warriors franchise. This guy is perfect for the bay area
Do you make mock first draft videos? I’m not sure if the whole first round is plausible. But a dive into why you think each team should make that specific pick. If it’s too much for the whole first round, then maybe just the first 10 or 15
It's too late to make a mock draft after the draft.
Really hope the Flames can draft Iginla.. not a fan of that team but I was always a big Jerome Iginla fan and seeing his kid play there would just feel right
love it, grew up watching sharks be good, lets make it happen again
I made the same mistake with naming players on sanjose aswell. Just becuse there the scraps that are left dosent mean there worth mentioning. Fabian will have an uphill battle and will most likely need some new wingers to help out.
Quinton Musty shout out Sudbury Wolves!
Imagine if Chicago got the top pick again, the fans would have rioted
Man I was honestly thinking that the NHL was about to gift it to the Hawks again
IF THEY did, and they dont win the stnaley cup in at least 3 years, yea its time for chicago to relocate
Lol """""""gifted""""""" """""again???"""""". Look up what a lottery is.
@@therockieshockeypodcast In order to use the word "again" NHL would have had to gift something before. But it's nice to know Blackhawks live rent-free in your head.
@@siimtokke3461given what most people hate the Blackhawks for, I really dont think that “rentfree” is appropriate here
Nuge also had major shoulder injuries early in his career that had a huge impact on his development
I first started watching hockey when joe thorton was a bruin and he was my favorite player. Sad he went to the sharks but i found my 2nd favorite team 😁
Christmas came early this year. It’s been pretty damn dark for us Sharks fans so it’s awesome to finally be excited about something
Sharks had dark period, but that team I loved, now Detroit is back on truck, and I have feel something like 90's slowly comes back, and I'm really happy they now got nr1 pick.
As a Brit i haven't a clue what goes on with the draft, from ppl waiting to see the order of the teams, like how come it's not known b4 hand? Then the Blackhawks get rewarded with Bedard then get 2nd "choosies" this year! 32 team club who pass the best players between them, bomb late in the season & get rewarded? Fans may pretend they understand the draft but there's a lot that seems underhand about the whole process!!
Like to see the sharks have a little shake up between the pipes.
I'm excited to see who the number 2 pick is, because that will be great for the Hawks. It'll be nice for Bedard to hqve someone capable of (hopefully) backing him up next season.
Teams in the 5-11 range can get the most electrifying player of this draft. Highest scoring d man parekh. Could be headed to habs, sens, utah, sealttle, flames.
Thats my thought. I feel this draft is a little weaker up top. Its the 5-15 I'm interested in. I feel some players in the `10` range are going to be the steals of this draft.
@@tomp6879 hell i'd take parekh first if i were drafting. he needs to bulk up but is going to be something special. Modern day d man.
Habs GM already confirmed that skill to skill they are gonna pick a forward , could see Parehk go at 6-7 tbh.
'Celebrini'. 'Celebrity'. 'Celebration'. His name word plays very well for the Sharks.
Nuge had a great, sneaky wrist shot, and elite passing. Both qualities Sakic and Jumbo posessed.
My favourite thing when Nuge is brought up is that he plays in all situations. He’s a Swiss Army knife. Praying he gets the cup.
RNH never expected to be a full franchise player. He was expected to top out at around 100 pts, and he got 104 last season. Sure some of the other top-10 picks in that draft might be better like Scheifele, or Zibanejad but most were not, and besides, their careers aren't over yet. Anyways, the best player in that draft was passed up by all the teams at least once and was taken in the SECOND round, being Kucherov.
Nugent-Hopkins had his trajectory ruined by the Oilers org. Not making the playoffs in the first 5-7 years of their career is pretty damaging to growth. When the Oilers got Eakins, the development of Yakupov (leading rookie goal scorer), Schultz (by far the most dominant player in the AHL during his half season there, I watched all his games with the Barons that year), Eberle, RNH, and Hall were all stunted. When the Oil got McLellan, they were finally developing these players as any proper team would. Before that, MacT sending Drai down was an incredibly smart move and did a lot for his development.
I'm sure people would say the same about Justin Shultz, who dominated the AHL so much that he was still their leading scorer for months after he left when the shortened NHL season was underway. Nevermind the competition, he played with a level of confidence was immediately shattered when he was put on the first defensive pairing in the NHL against the league's best. Contrast the handling of Bouchard to Schultz to see how the team has improved in that area.
MIKEY G IS DOING THINGS GREAT THINGS FOR US
As a ANA Ducks fan this just pisses me off even more, ANA had the best odds for #1 pick last year but of course they don't win it, and it even hurts more that CHI jumped ANA when CHI won their last game of the season last year against the penguins to get out of last place yet are rewarded with #1 pick. This and the fact that ANA has never had a #1 draft overall, then again, I guess SJS Sharks have also not had a #1 pick before but still is unfair lol
As a Kings fan, I'm ok with Celebrini going to San Jose. Not sure if this is the guy who will bring a contending team though...he may need the right kind of grooming like the kind Yzerman got and the kind Sakic directed for MacKinnon.
Nice to see him go to the Sharks instead of Chicago lmao
Why not Chicago?
So in the same week Vegas gets kicked out in the 1st round and Chicago loses the Draft lottery? Is this Christmas?
Ong
Number two pick and now y'all don't get to bitch about the odds? Yeah, Chicago sure lost
No because Oilers are still in the playoffs
Jesus they didn't lose the lottery. Frickin casual hockey fans.
@@idrivefast235 if you don't win the lottery, you lose. Pretty straighforward
If the mock drafts are to be believed, it is very possible that Tij ends up in Calgary. I wonder how that would be like...
Sharks, Ducks and Hawks could be a force in the 5 years from now.
As a Sharks fan, of course I am happy the Sharks got the #1 overall pick. We only need, like, five more #1 overall picks to be competitive.
I’m really happy the sharks got the pick
As a casual NHL fan can someone explain what a draft lottery is? And how a team gets on it. And how it relates to drafting in general 💀 (im 18 I should know this shit but I don't)
All teams are on it and the last team in the standings has the best chance second last have the second best chance… etc
The lottery involves all the teams who miss the playoffs, and each team has a chance at a higher pick. They keep changing the rules, so I am not sure how far up you can move now. I think its 8 spots, it changes year to year I swear. Like a couple years ago only the bottom 3 teams had a chance at the #1 pick. And in 2020 they did this weird lottery where it was just weird. The Rangers got the #1 pick as a playoff team.
Anyway, the teams that miss the playoffs get ranked from worst to best (of the bad). The worst has the best chance of landing the #1 pick. The best not so much. For instance this year San Jose had a 25% chance where St Louis had a 1% chance. Then a lottery happens to see who actually picks where.
Then, as teams get knocked out of the playoffs, they occupy the rest of the first round picks.
As a hawks fan I’m glad the sharks got celly he’s definitely gunna be great for the nhl but I do gotta say the hawks now need to find a player who’s gunna play with bedard now because demidov is going to be year or two and nazar neeeds a year in the ahl so honestly I’m kinda worried it’s gunna be worse next year.
Must be nice. I remember when the wings were by far the worst in the league and dropped to 4th while a playoff team got #1 overall
Don’t know why they actually had celebrini there for the draft lottery 🤣🤣🤣
Looks like Chicago has to send a haul for the first pick
We NEED bedard/celly
Welllppp celebrini have fun
Chicago fan, I really didn't want the heat from winning the 1st overall again.
Damn, they didn't rig it for Chicago this year but did when the ducks were the worst. Cool cool cool
🎻
(i thought they always decide this immediatley after the stanley cup is won
In the last 3 year habs then to draft who improve their draft rank over the year, so I think it will be between lindstrom or iginla
Drafts are a crapshoot. Youngsters of seventeen and eighteen are rarely ready for the NHL and May never be. And then there are those late round picks who surprise but they are few enough. Yet they do happen and this just shows how difficult it can be to predict their potential.
the sharks are my second team so hopefully i will be able to watch games and not be sad soon lol
Finally something went Sharks way.
Fuckkk yea! Lets go Sharks!!!
Tij iginla plays for my city’s team
As a hawks fan, he always looked like a shark to me. Like he literally looked more right in a sharks jersey than any other one to me. The sharks and their fans deserve him
After Celebrini it's wide open
Has San Jose changed their blue/green color in the last 5-10 years? Their colors look different. I do like the new shark logo.
The logo is the same, the teal is the same shade, but they did get rid of the orange accent color for the most part
There goes my 20 minutes
If Mo treal doesn't pick Iginla's son it will be like passing up a Tachuck.
If they don't take him trade the pick to Calgary.
They like French Canadian and European players in Montreal but maybe they’ve learned their lesson.
@@thebigpicture2032 They need forwards with offensive flair and grit.
I’ll take Eiserman or Lindstrom before considering taking Iginla
Idk why but he reminds me of Mitch Marner

Language police here: You said “weary” when I think you meant “wary”.

Of course, like every other(that I can remember) lottery, the team gets to pick exactly where they were placed before. So incredibly anti-climatic every time.
