So, thank you for posting this! Also, trajineras are very common, but only in the outskirts of Mexico City, because that's where that tradition is from.
One small things as well: The chinampas/ canals are specific to Mexico City, and more so specific to Xochimilco, bc it was built upon Lake Texcoco. The majority of Mexico isn’t that way unfortunately.
Seeing an island that isn't Japanese or Cottage themed is SO refreshing. Not only that, the work of the culture put in this island is incredible. 10/10
Same! I’m on the hunt for Greek Island themes, Viking theme, and anything that isn’t Japanese theme. I agree that its nice to finally see new and refreshing ideas.
Dude, as a Mexican American, I feel so excited to see this beautiful island! I have lived in Mexico for most part of my life, and I GOT EXCITED AF WHEN I SAW HIS MARKET AND THE OUTDOOR ARCADE! THIS IS VERY RARE but u can find it in Mexico if you know where to go!
mom will send you out to buy tortillas, and you see arcade machines in the convenience store, you say, oh i will play a bit then i will order tortillas, half hour later still playing in arcade machine you suddenly remember "GASP! LAS TORTILLAS" and mom be ready at home waiting for you with her chancla ready -every mexican childhood
this was a really well-researched tour! i love island tours but it can be a little repetitive when most of the commentary is just "wow that's beautiful", but this island was not only beautiful but a great homage to mexico and it was nice that you were able to teach us all about what we were seeing rather than just showing us. great vid!
Love the Mexican theme island!! I´m from Mexico and I really love how he represented many things! Especially the custom designs Just two clarifications: - The little island with the names represents the "trajineras" which are boats where people use to travel to collect corn and other things from "chinanpas" which were floating gardens (the island with flowers). Now they are used for tourism - The captain of the winning team was the one sacrificed as it was an honour for them. It wasn´t really a bad thing back then.
hey! i don’t know if you made your research in advance or if you already knew everything, but i loved all the information that you gave us on mexican culture :-) good job! i really love your videos
The “Pterodactyl” at the top of the first pyramid is actually a “Quetzalcoatlus”, so I guess that means the sacrifices where made to honor Quetzalcóatl, a mexica god.
Also yeessss we do have mini arcades in Mexico! Alot of people’s childhoods consist of the parents sending them to the corner stores to buy food and end up spending some of the money on the arcade games they had in corner stores😅 and them getting beat for not bringing what they asked because you spent some of the money on arcade🤣💕
Thank you so much for this island tour! Being mexican this brought so much nostalgia from my childhood and my culture. Got so inspired by this creator and his work. Theres so many little details that not alot will understand... nothing but praise!!
Actually the “Pterodactyl “ is actually a Quetzalcoatl, which is actually named after the Aztec god “serpiente emplumada”, translated feathered serpent. This guy did such an amazing job he even got that detail right! And the “paleteria” has the little michoacana icon that is a very popular icecream shop you find everywhere in Mexico, he did such a good job!!!! Wow, neta felicidades al creador 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
As a Chicana, I enjoyed seeing this representation of Mexican culture. I named my island Xochipilli after the Aztec god of games, art, song, dance etc. With that in mind, I also want to make an island that represents my culture.
Finally a refreshing island tour that explain part of the islands . While most other island tour youtube channels are too exaggerated overreacting like “WOW , LOOK AT THIS, THIS IS COOL AND AWESOME” while there’s only 5 chairs .
I have to agree. As a Mexican-American and avid AC fan since the og Gamecube release, his island is amazing and the Xochimilco section was the most creative and ingenious idea I’ve ever seen as reproductions/homages go. Very impressive 👍🏻👍🏻
The stone head statue is from Olmeca culture -- an older civilization than Aztecs and Mayans. Actually the Aztecs and Mayans based their religion and pottery off of the Olmecas. Fun fact my last name is derived from Olmeca language, which is rare since most lasts names merged into Spanish last names. Another fun fact is my island is based off the region of the Olmecas which is Veracruz. More over, from the city I grew up in Veracruz. I'm not done yet though.
I loved the detail of the pteranodon at the top of the pyramid because it's a Quetzalcoatlus, named after the prehispanic god Quetzalcoatl "the feathered snake"
The market with the arcade was so awesome to see. I remember as a kid in Mexico I would go to the plaza in my village and one of the market stores had 3 arcade games. I used to play Mario and Pac-Man all the time
as a Mexican I can say that this island is awesome. I love the little detail of the candy machines outside the store. I remember seeing at least one outside each store whenever I went with grandma to the market.
Aztlan is actually what the Aztecs called the area of modern day Arizona/New Mexico. They believed thats were the first Aztecs came from before the migrated to Mexico.
ElectricEel Actually they weren’t Aztecs. They were mexicas. The mexicas were slaves or something like that to the Aztecs, so they were really running away from them lol. I just mention this because I think it is something everyone should be aware of.☺️
Wilbos, thank you for visiting such a beautiful island, as a Mexican this makes me so happy! Also, the way you pronounce things is impressive, love your content!
In Nahuatl Aztlán means "place of the herons", it is a mythical site, from which the Aztecs are said to come, Aztlán is usually identified as an island, and the fact that in animal crossing you have your own island is very cool, I loved the video it is very interesting to see the islands of other players and especially to see that other people learn something about your culture, nice job :D!!!!
my favorite part of the tour: "tlatoani" outfit has a hairstyle similar to the ex-president Enrique Peña Nieto, who was a living meme by himself and was often refered as "Lord/tlatoani Peña"
Hi there, I took Art History in college and I believe that giant head (between the two pyramids) is from the Olmec civilization, which pre-dates the Aztec. I live near San Antonio, Texas, which does have A LOT of Mexican influences and we actually do have some of those places to eat that are only open through lunch. Someone can correct me if I am wrong, but due to it getting so hot in the warmer months, it just made more sense to close around lunch time and have afternoon siestas and then do stuff again in the evening when it's cooler. In SA you'll see both English and Spanish all over the city (like instructions and whatnot). Plus there are a lot of mom and pop Mexican restaurants here too and they definitely serve the best Mexican food because they're homemade.
This truly was a great and fun tour to watch!! I really admire your research and sharing your knowledge on the culture in depth instead of blindly running through it as well. I learned so much thank you! And the island itself was so amazingly terraformed and well thoughtout!! It gave me lots of inspiration ^-^
In Mexico there are a lot of tiny stores that have those type of arcade machines, they’re mostly not arcade tho, different types of games but they look very similar!!

The Quetzalcoatlus at the top of the first pyramid is SO cool! My eyelid twitched when you called it a pterodactyl, that's a different fossil in the game and a different animal entirely xD The Quetzalcoatlus is, obviously, named after Quetzalcoatl, so it's a really good choice. and the pose the fossil is in is just very cool
@@WilbosWorld haha! I hope I didn't come off as too UMM ACTUALLY, it was just a little missed opportunity to make the Quetzalcoatl connection :) I love the video, and the island, thank you and the creator both for sharing!
There are arcade in Mexico, some Grocery stores have them, also you might find some in shopping centers as well. This video was awesome and the island too, try to look for a Russian themed island.
Will do! I’m trying to find islands that represent all of the different cultures in the world, I think it would be really cool to learn about all of them.
The arcade outside is call "Maquinitas" Little machines. The boats at the canal are call "Chalupas". When someone dies outside or in place that the body wasn't found, the people put those little shrines to memory the spirit on the last place the person was.
I’m definitely going to be subscribing! This video was sooooo well researched. It’s really refreshing to see an acnh town that isn’t Japanese themed or fairytale/ cottagecore as someone said in another comment. Thanks for. This video!!

@@WilbosWorld that sounds good dude, I will not miss any video 👍
The arcade outside is call "Maquinitas" Little machines.
The boats at the canal are call "Chalupas".
When someone dies outside or in place that the body wasn't found, the people put those little shrines to memory the spirit on the last place the person was.
as a mexican person, AC lover, and a mesoamerican archaeologist this made me SO HAPPY thank you for sharing!!!!!!
I’ve heard about that life-or-death ball game before!

I’m definitely going to be subscribing! This video was sooooo well researched. It’s really refreshing to see an acnh town that isn’t Japanese themed or fairytale/ cottagecore as someone said in another comment. Thanks for. This video!!
