    Thank you for being clear about when the sound was coming from the DL-10L mic. It's amazing how many "review" vids don't bother to let you know when they've changed audio sources . .. even thought they're comparing the different audio sources! Much appreciated!

    Great video, one suggestion Sam, the pop up text is too brief and I can't read it as it's white on a white background, great info though thanks 👍🏻

    You can input timecode in the Tascam if you record audio timecode in the beginning or end of the recording. I use Tentacle Sync E and Tentacle studio to add timecode to all my Tascams.

    Question: I understand you cant hear the sound during shooting, but is there any playback feature at all on the recorder? Or is it only possible to hear the sound when you export the files?

    Is the free software any better than Audacity? Love the video BTW!

    Great video. One question. How do you charge it? I connect it to the laptop and a wall charger but it doesn't seem to fully charge.

      You don’t charge it. You put a fresh AAA battery inside of it.

      @@HiddenDriveways hello Sam, nice video. I know this one is old, but I was wondering if you have some intel about tascam dr-10x , the xlr version. Ive watched a review talking about its base noise level being better than the dr-40x. I was thinking of using an at899 battery powered xlr lav mic with dr-10x for vlogs, and studoo recordings. Is dr-10x suitable for that task or a zoon h4n pro or even h5 is better, when we talk just about the aoind quality and the base noise level?
      Regards from Portugal!

    Hi Sam! I'm currently upgrading my freelance kit and I'm looking into audio gear for docu-style videos and weddings, I've decided on the DR-10L and DR-40X thanks to your brilliant videos! For scratch audio, I'm looking at maybe the Rode VideoMic NTG and the NTG1, have you used these before or do you know of any better shotgun mic's in the same price range? Cheers!

    Question. Can you use this dr 10L to mic a single audio speaker. Multiple people speaking on stage and want heat some audience reactions.

    • @HiddenDriveways
      @HiddenDriveways  Год назад

      You could give it try. Getting proper levels when miking the loudspeaker may not leave much signal for the much quieter audience reactions to be heard. The balance of stage voices and audience will likely be not what you want. Also, the recording, even if executed as best as possible, won’t sound professional. Recording a loudspeaker and a room this way will sound unnatural and a bit rough. For a professional finish you would want a line-level recording directly from the PA mixer, ideally on an aux send that the sound person set up for you with a separate mix with balanced channels, and you would also want separate audience mics positioned to capture the best sounding audio from them.

    Hey Sam, I really like your content, the birds, your unbelievably incorruptible logic ... and of course the „Fred Schneiderish“ voice. ;-) Do you make Musik and tried a bit of B-52s cover?
    I really like the idea of the small tascam recorder. Although I think the price is a bit high. because it doesn't do a lot more than a DR05 without microphones.
    I have noticed with very long takes that audio recorders don't always run at the same speed. E.g. during concert recordings, when several cameras and recorders were running in parallel, I noticed an audible offset after 2 hours, which was probably around 20ms, which wasnot easy to fix in the post production. Can you say something about that? I suspect that not all quartzes really run at the same speed, or it is voltage-related.
    As always, greetings and stay healthy.

      I love the B-52s. I love them like crazy. I do play music, but I don't think I could ever do a B-52s cover. Too sacred to be fiddled with! It's true, you can end up with drift with long recordings. But, I think the advantages of working that way, in some scenarios anyhow, is worth the trouble of fixing any drift issues that may pop up. The workflow I was talking about was more "take based" type of shooting. So, instead of a continuous long take, there will be a bunch of shorter takes. So the video maker is going in and grabbing the little bits of audio they need and syncing shorter takes. But, it's good that you brought it up! Thanks for commenting!

      So if I can, as a completely untalented, on a 30 year old kid's keyboard ... don't be afraid. it can only be better! ruclips.net/video/Mive3XQHKlU/видео.htmlm28s
      I once had a crazy idea and tried to record surround sound with two Zoom H1s and an Olympus LS-12. The Olympus recorder as the main microphone and the two Zoom H1s as surround sources, rear left and rear right. The time lag was noticeable and made it impossible for me to correct it. But that is now 6 years ago and FCPX was still in version 10.1. So... maybe I should repeat this experiment with my H5 and the two H1s.

      @HiddenDriveways  2 года назад

      @@ScottJohnson80 Yes, as long as the people making the video agree to the workflow of recording the sound separately and syncing the audio files in post.
