Great video Jr. Black people are discriminated against all over the world but we continue to be strong. Continue with your religion and don't let anyone tell you that you are not as good as the next man. Bravo on your video. I hope you can feel the love coming from NY
jr. loved it your video,it is nice to see a brazillian pround of his roots and culture, congratulations! Respect and peace is a good message to all of us independent of race, believes and culture. Well done!
The subtitles are not representative of what he is saying. He says much more than the subtitles convey, also the author is dubbing it their own interpretations.
In the world there are different beliefs and religions We can not criticise them! Please respect the religion of others! simply the Brazil is rich in diversity!
Excellent & informative video. I am a Lukumi priest of Oshun (Oxun?) from the caribean and am fascinated by how our ancestors belief have proliferated themselves and survived. Modupe pupo (many thanks).
No matter the country I respect any young man and woman that doesn't use there hardship as an excuse to fail, but a motive to succeed. It is young man as seen in this video that will find away to move to my country of America with only the shirt on his back and get a great education and become a very well respected member of our society. We seldom ever see a story like this on our news channels, more vides like this needs to be posted.
The Orixas of Candomble seem similar to the Orichas in a type of Cuban religion. They probably shared some sort of common ancestor religion. Interesting video!
Que interesante la fusion de culturas. Muy interesante el video. Muchas gracias. That interesting the merger of cultures. Very interesting the video. Thank you very much.
Hi, Josevaldo, Jr. nice to hear from you. I wanted to make a comment about your beliefs in candomble, i am originally from Nigeria, but was born in England. And i grew up in Nigeria until now.presently i live in Kent. My question to you is that do you understand the wordings of the song that your canomble priest sings. Please try and reply this message and then i'll give you more insight.
As a Brazilian living in the US I really get offended when most Americans think Brazil is all about Samba, Soccer (Football as the rest of the world call it) Poverty and beautiful people with tine bathing suits at the beach. My people, Brazil is a huge country bigger than United States (Without Alaska) and very diverse indeed. We are the biggest Catholic country in the world and we have many other religion, some as the Candomble brought by the slaves, which contributed largely to our culture.
This video is awesome. I lived in Brazil and had the chance to participate in some of the rituals. As a Jew I think the nature of earth centered religions are always good.
This type of vid is nice so people know part of brazil's culture. The bad part of it, is that many irresponsible people will think that this is the only thing we have here.
im brazilian, brazil is not all slums like in this video, most part of brazil is beautiful and brazil is a develop country with a strong economy, but i cant deny, its sad that some parts of it still look like this, i really want to do something for my country one day that will make it better, so it can become a legit 1st world country
Candomblé never teaches evil. It's philosophy is the same as christian's - the practice of love and peace, and to live your life so you become a better human being that would leave good achievements for others. That's what it's working for Junior in the video. It's helping him see his roots, his people, their situation and it's enriching his mind. That's what every religion should do for someone.
yeah, the beginning especially and some of it is also written wrong but still, good video just wished they showed more of the ceremonies, they're so dark and powerful... Candomblé is definitely something that I lived that I will remember forever
Thank you I found it very interesting and it was also pretty well made. Informative, yet not boring. Maybe just a few more diversive shots for visual interest may be a good idea, but overall it wasn't bad at all :) Nevermind people who just pass by, take no effort to understand and pass of a meaningless comment. I thank you for bringing this to the net so I can learn a little bit more, understand a little bit more. If we don't learn from each other then we won't learn at all :)
Does anyone know the name of the song that they are singing? I know I probably wont be able to download it but what is the name or lyrics if you can...pm me
Michaelas11 - I have been reading your comments, and I'm so pleased that you value my non-immortal soul enough to want to convert me to a depressing existentialism in which nothing we do matters because we are but organisms floating in the meaningless void. In fact, you calling me a 'religious dumbass' has opened my eyes and I now realise how superior the intelligence of Atheists really is. If only I were as enlightened as you, then maybe I too could pursue a life of science.
What gives you the impression that candomble is so young? It says right at the beginning that the traditions were brought from Africa by slaves. Brazil itself is 500 yrs old, but Candomble is based in African traditions that are much older. There are a lot of people who think Candomble is worth looking at, even if not to practice, because its history is so complex and gives us an idea of what slaves went through to hold on to their culture.
My uncles is a camdomble 'priest' or spirit receiver, when I was younger once a week he would have a meeting and receive these spirits, including a child one who would give the children candy. I never really believed in it, but it was fun going, though sometimes scary esp. if he received bad or angry spirits...
Olijfje IRDH I am writing about Candomble, can you recommend any books that I can start my research with? I am about to pick this book: Capoeira and Candomblé: Conformity And Resistance In Brazil
That shows some of my prejudice, I never even thought about the education he could get in Brazil. That's what's so dangerous about living in a bubble and only getting information from just a few sources.
ahh yes i was confused, of course i saw the irony in his misspelling, hence my reply to him. i thought you were referring to irony in your reply which i could not fathom :-)
I don't like the ignorant statement he makes about evil spirits and voodoo like if voodoo was about evil spirits.. :( but overall it's really a nice video, thx for posting
I know your comment is 9 years old, but I'd like to clarify for others who will watch this and only be able to understand by reading the subtitles: He did not even mention the word voodoo in that sentence. The author added it.
scotpens said: "Raise a child with a sound education in science and logic, and with no religious indoctrination, and that child will almost certainly be an atheist or agnostic as an adult." This might be true, (thou i doubt it) but mostly because we, in our modern society, live in an eggshell world unable to cope with concepts that are bigger then us.
Beautiful religion, beautiful culture, I love Brazil!

This was great, I've been learning about Candomble and Brazil in a class and it's nice to finally see everything visually. :)
Every state in Brazil has its particular costumes and traditions ! It’s so diverse I love it 😍
Beautiful, they make me feel good. I am praying for them too . god bless

I was thinking the same thing even though I don't speak or understand Portuguese
Thanks for the heads up
I speak French and Spanish, and can get the basic concept when hearing Portugues, so gracias y merci for the heads up.
Muito legal ser do Candomblé. É cultura e conhecimento de causa
In the world there are different beliefs and religions We can not criticise them! Please respect the religion of others! simply the Brazil is rich in diversity!
Great to see youtube featuring more diverse educational content for those of us who like to learn & understand more about cultures beyond our own.
Excellent & informative video. I am a Lukumi priest of Oshun (Oxun?) from the caribean and am fascinated by how our ancestors belief have proliferated themselves and survived.
Modupe pupo (many thanks).
Otimo video, meus pais sao do candomble, e eh uma linda religiao.

Beautiful Jr. is a lovely peaceful brother. I'm happy to see he will not deny his African roots and heritage despite of discrimination.
Muito bom o documentário, gostaria que fosse maior, a filmagem está ótima e o conteúdo também. Parabéns!
Hi there, I think you missed a lot of stuff that they talk about... You should arrange the subtitles.
Beautiful religon, beautiful country...
You have a wonderful country. Wonderful people. God bless you. Grandpa
The Orixas of Candomble seem similar to the Orichas in a type of Cuban religion. They probably shared some sort of common ancestor religion. Interesting video!
Its the slaves - the Yoruba people had been sent to and sold as slaves in Brazil.
It can be possible the same happened in Cuba.
Que interesante la fusion de culturas. Muy interesante el video. Muchas gracias.

Nice video
Brazil's got loads of different cultures, that's what makes the country unique
This type of vid is nice so people know part of brazil's culture. The bad part of it, is that many irresponsible people will think that this is the only thing we have here.
Interesting video...I had learnt a little about this in my World religion in class.

interesting to learn about Candomble through a young man discovering his roots through Candomble, maybe the video could have been a bit more dynamic

What makes old religion valuable?
BRAZIL IS BEAUTIFUL!
I'm also brazilian, but im from Rio De Janerio.
I know. I lived in Brazil for a year and a half, but this clip is about Candomble, and slums have to be shown.
My uncles is a camdomble 'priest' or spirit receiver, when I was younger once a week he would have a meeting and receive these spirits, including a child one who would give the children candy. I never really believed in it, but it was fun going, though sometimes scary esp. if he received bad or angry spirits...
Consider the possibility that believing sometimes IS knowing.
KOOL MAN
It seems to me like the translation is slightly off, no?
gostei!
Hi, yes I’m here in 2020
Candomble in another words is pretty much the same as the american Vodoo of NewOrleans type.
nice
Olijfje IRDH I am writing about Candomble, can you recommend any books that I can start my research with? I am about to pick this book: Capoeira and Candomblé: Conformity And Resistance In Brazil
Search pierre verger or luiz Rufino
This sounds like a good book too, the one you metioned, although i dont know it
Try this one:
Religion and Cultural Identity: The Case of Umbanda
Graham M. S. Dann
That shows some of my prejudice, I never even thought about the education he could get in Brazil. That's what's so dangerous about living in a bubble and only getting information from just a few sources.
crfranchises1: I couldnt agree more sir/madam. Cheers.
This video is very good, but I have to say that the english subtitles misses a lot of what he is saying.
Life time member of the FFA. When your bored living in small town USA you make up games to play.
What ever it is, it WORKS Baby!!
crf - What is the FFA?
ahh yes i was confused, of course i saw the irony in his misspelling, hence my reply to him. i thought you were referring to irony in your reply which i could not fathom :-)

good work...
if only people in mauritius did the same & kept our traditions...alas.
just a quick translation: jr's nighborhood, "Bagunçaço" means "big mess". our country is a mess, but we're so happy! we love life.
I don't like the ignorant statement he makes about evil spirits and voodoo like if voodoo was about evil spirits.. :( but overall it's really a nice video, thx for posting
