approx 5.5 hours shooting time, 400 man hours total from inception to post production including building elevators etc., I think we had 10k in it total scene, bullet was not CG but actually she caught, and YES she is my real wife, 24 years with 5 kids. She is a 2nd degree black belt. We love Jesus and thats what has kept us in a strong faithful marriage Hope that helps, Victor Marx
We need solid, professional military men. DO your best in school and in life, stay away from drugs and crime. Follow God too. YOU would a great edition to the USMC. sincerely, Mr Marx
This is the opening scene of my documentary film. Hollywood filming is always different than real life. Believe me, this would not go down the same way if it were real. I don't mess around :-)
You guys are amazing. I've been doing martial arts my whole life. But the level of skill you display on those disarms simply blows me away. I'm making my entire class watch this.
yeah i get he could really disarm someone like that but if that was real then after he took the gun they would have both just tackled him to the ground he might beable to out class them 1 on 1 but he would not beable to drop both at once if they just put their head's down and pulled his leg's out from under him easy
Depending on where you live, you may have limited options. Ask around, sit in on a few classes, and make sure that the lead instructor makes the style of martial arts fun for the kids. If your daughter isn't looking forward to going to class & not having fun, it won't matter the style of instruction. I started with karate & then mastered my father's style Keichu-do (karate, boxing, & jujitsu). Finding a karate instructor who is a Christian is another positive that I would search for too :-)
Victor, I heard you interviewed in the morning just before you spoke in Hawaii at the HIM convention that I couldn't attend. You said, "Don't run from the cross. Run to it." I immediately wrote a song with those lyrics. Three weeks or so later, my pastor showed your biography in church and I wept because I could relate to much of your statements. I thank God for you, my brother! Love, In Him, Jonathan Nosaka. Grace Christian Community Church, Honolulu, Hawaii.
I have never met Victor Marx but he holds a special place in my heart for all he does for people that are less fortunate than me. He is my inspiration if I can keep a person on the straight and narrow path to their goals, then I have done well , but if they stray from that path it is not their fault I did not teach them the difference
I never thought about that. Next time I will use the force to bend the gun in half while lifting them off their feet and making them strangle each other, also peeing themselves. Sincerely, The Man in the crappy fight scene
No one is perfect. I am full to the rim with sin. But when I hear you speak about life and the fact that you are a fellow martial artist, I feel an overwhelming sense of hope. For me and my family. Thank you for your work. :)
11 seconds ? you must be one tough young man who has a forehead of concrete to not be stunned by a "magazine loaded with 9mm rounds hitting you at that force 3 feet away. Thanks for your comment
victor you are one of the few people in the world that define martial arts i mean you are one of those few that can also stay tough through out im pretty sure you are a role model for most people that have seen you
You still are our most articulate commenter with amazing insights into the philosophical; and physical aspects and understanding of fighting styles, systems and approach on any of our videos. Always a joy to read your comments. PS you never offer BS :-)
Mr Marx is a good man and a great martial artist. He has overcome so many things in his life to put himself in a position to help others with his ministry. Anytime someone comes through the fire and has it within themselves to help others who have been in the same bad places, they are a person to be respected. The fact that he is Christian has no bearing on that respect from me nor should it be from any others. Coming from a Heathen that lives from PTSD, keep up the great work, the world needs more people like you.
This guy is way more impressive to me than those idiots who think they need to carry an AR-15 around town in order to fend off some imaginary attackers.
I love got fight scenes, especially when they are this tactical. To be honest I didn't expect too much here, but this was great, it kept me watching. My favorite part was the bullet catching and punch afterwards. Funnily this scene felt like it was way longer than 3 minutes. Again, great scene. A+, 5/5.
Saw you today at New Hope Windward in Kaneohe. Not what I was expecting when I saw you walk in but I walked out of there knowing there are things in my life I have to change (none of them deal with guns) and today is the day! Thanks and God Bless
You don't snatch the gun from the assailant without moving the other way when its pointed straight to your body and the trigger in all possibility could be pressed while snatching, bottom line a bullet moves faster than your hand
smartest thing ever said.. i never took the time to write what you said. most of those "snatchy" disarm videos around the internet they dont move to one of the sides of the bullet line, but you just took the words from my mouth. Doing this "show off disarm" move may get you killed in real life. There are other disarm techniques.
Xolo Bolo First move is getting the gun off-line just prior to the radial strike. Watch closely and you'll see that happens. Also, see why I learned this gun disarm in the first place by watching my documentary film on my channel. Give me feedback after you watch it. :-)
well i practice martial arts and my instructor taught us, but in every move you must get out of the bullet line, he also shown me that show off move but he explained the risks.
Victor Marx That hand speed was QUICK! I was like Victor gon get shot, but OH SNAP he just took gun, disarmed it, put those guys on the ground! Hand speed! Wish I had you as an instructor, wish I did. You'd probably have me laughin while ownin the crap out of me!
Of course he was sending his wife a code immediately when he said to the bald guy...... "I don't think you want the lady".......... Since they were having a slight disagreement they were both waiting for the assailants to escalate the attack. If Victor hadn't said anything the bald guy may have waited longer to pull out his gun. Pulling the gun was what Victor was waiting for. The sooner the gun is out the sooner Victor can end the assault. Maybe he and his wife had worked out a few codes years in advance in case they ever got into a confrontation with someone............but Victor's point was to distract the assailant long enough for the assailant to give Victor the advantage he needed. As long as the gun is in the assailants waistband Victor can't reach it. As soon as it was pulled out Victor had the advantage...................it's just that the assailant didn't know it yet. (8^)
WTF this is so silly. It's easier to take down an assailant that doesn't have a damn gun pointed at your face - even if he does have one on his waistband. Just don't give him the chance to reach for it.
Pasan H, but if YOU have the assailants gun...............the assailant can't use it afterwards. As long as the assailant has the gun he can still use it.
Nice vid and technique. To the keyboard warriors who say this is stupid to try, I say it's only stupid to try if you don't believe the guy with a gun in your face will shoot you. To the ones who say this is easy, I say that it is not easy, you have to be very fast and also lucky enough that the gunman isn't expecting it (luring him into a false sense of control by appearing submissive helps). I personally train to start a disarm with my hands up as if I'm pleading for mercy which also brings them closer to the gun. To the guys saying this won't help if the gunman is farther away you're correct, you have to either distract them, hope that they lower the weapon momentarily or point it away so you have time to either close the distance to disarm or find cover or escape. I thought the vid was cool and liked the humor, and obviously this wasn't a serious demonstration of what you should do in an encounter like this. For those who don't know why this was more for entertainment than for practical demo: 1. Don't dare an attacker to use the deadly weapon with bravado statements like, "Are you sure you want to do that? (Well punk, are ya??)" The joke of "I don't think you want the lady" would have probably been effective in reframing the encounter enough to momentarily unbalance the thugs. During their moments of bewilderment "who the heck is this guy?" thoughts, that would've been a good time to disarm them. Daring them to pull the trigger seems ballsy but just increases the tension and the chance that they will shoot. 2. Once you disarm and possess the weapon, in a closed space where neither of the parties involved can retreat, your best bet is to point it at them and be ready to pull the trigger if they don't immediately comply with your commands to step back, hands up, etc. Especially considering they may have another gun (the other thug was unarmed in the video, may not be in a real-world scenario), use the gun to defend yourself as necessary until the threat is over either by your escaping or the bad guys being incapacitated on the floor. In an elevator you don't have the luxury of escaping until the door opens, if I'm in that situation with two guys who pulled a gun on me and I managed to disarm them they are likely to be full of lead before I can leave the elevator. 3. Finally, after you have subdued the attackers one way or another, call 911 (duh) and don't leave the weapon in the trash where bad guys or a child could pick it up and use it. Anyhoo, thanks for posting the vid and two thumbs up on the disarm and fighting techniques in the video, very entertaining and you obviously know what you're doing. Well done.
Simple really. Action always beats reaction. Of course he's remarkably good at this but anyone with some minimal training can disarm the quickest and fastest armed robber if they are close enough. That's the key. I found from training that my mistake was not stepping into the bad guy and dominating their arm. Honestly try this with a training gun and you'll see there is no way in hell to react or pull the trigger before the gun is taken from you. And if you were going to die anyway... Practice firing a pistol with your hand carefully on the slide because it may fire once, then fail to feed. Twist it from their hand breaking their fingers, tap, rack BANG over. You're not going to out draw someone like this. So this technique is actually worth practicing even for average people. I was actually surprised how strong I was doing this and the same speed that makes my draw and shooting sub second is the same speed that allows my first burst of movement to beat them. And if you can go to their outside you can avoid tussling with them.
I'm going to stop any would be "But he's a Christian! He shouldn't be violent!" Didn't God give the snake his fangs? The tiger his claws? Shouldn't also man have a means to defend himself?
smoothsk8r44 BS, and typical of most inaccurate stereotypes. I have several "liberal" (whatever that means, to you or anyone these days) friends, all gun "nuts". Think shades of grey, or better yet.., think.
I, too am a Christian and also a minister. I will agree with you that as Christians, we are told to "turn the other cheek," but there comes a time when one must defend themselves and incidentally, almost all martial artists are taught to flee from a fight if possible but if the need arises, we must defend ourselves, but only with the most minimal harm to the aggressor. Here additional force was necessary or they would have lost their lives. They were perfectly justified in their actions as martial artists.
I agree that often is the best choreography, The encounters I have been in for the most part would be boring on film, not all looked good but were effective. Thx for your comment - Mr. Marx
One of the things on my Bucket List is to meet Victor Marx but I don't think it will happen cos I can't afford to travel to see him and as much as I admire him he has far more important issues to deal with helping other people that are trying to get their lives on track but if Victor is ever in or near Springfield Illinois I would make it my mission to go to meet him
Victor Marx I pray everyday that my day will be fantastic and that all my co-workers will have a wonderful day I had an accident at work and lost part of my index finger and all my co-workers ask me daily how I am doing and I usually reply I am doing good then I ask how they are and if they have issues I listen. I have learned over the years that everyone needs a friendly ear, I can walk through the plant that I maintain and feel the respect that they have for me because it is mutual I am a firm believer in the philosophy of paying it forward, often out of work I will help them out with advice or transport without bothering about reward, I pride myself in the fact that although I don't go to church every Sunday I am at heart a real christian.
+Victor Marx frankly?that fight scene was better and more realistic than 90% of Hollywood productions. coming from someone who train/fight and teach muay thai for over 27years. sir I'm really big fan of what u do.
Fine motor skills virtually disappear under severe stress. If you must engage, reduce your opponents in the quickest and most effective way possible...aka if you get the gun, shoot them both ASAP and RUN!
***** He is also a Marine, and therefore trained to kill...so I doubt he'd have a moral dilemma with it...he just chooses to use his skills in a positive way for the greater good. As far as my comment, it is a fact that even a skilled fighter will usually lose a fight with a weapon. If you are lucky enough to get the weapon, use it to your advantage and escape the situation as fast as possible (if you don't kill him and his buddy, they may have another gun or knife or more friends). If you've ever been in a real streetfight or mugging, you would know that the capability for complex thought goes out the window and you are reduced to your most primitive fight or flight reflexes. That is why I train the way I do and why I have that mindset. Friend, I too am a Christian and will always turn the other cheek unless I am in a situation that directly involves the safety of myself or others. As we are taught by his teachings to be selfless, I'd gladly give up my ticket to heaven if it means my children will still have a father, my wife will still have a husband, and those evildoers won't ever be able to harm anybody else. I think as men of faith, we should all train and prepare mentally and physically to defend what is right and do what is necessary to protect our selves and families when (not if) the time comes.
***** Killing makes you weak ? Shouldn't have killed them cause it'd be wrong ? Yeah, how about you stop talking now. Who cares if they might change ? If someone is threatening my life, and, even more importantly, the life of the woman I love, I will take all measures necessary to eliminate the threat they pose. If that means firing one bullet in each of their skulls, or stabbing them with their own knife if that's what they have, so be it. Also, lots of christians kill people, in the army and otherwise. Just thought I'd add that.
***** 2 months ? A long time ago ? A buttload of stuff must have happened to you since then for you to call that "a long time ago". Either way, good day to you.
***** And how can you be sure you can ? Shoot them in the leg, they ain't moving or causing trouble. One gun only to keep in check two guys, a partner who doesn't know much about h2h, enclosed environment, stressful situation... No matter what there's always gonna be a chance, but that chance will usually be much greater if you don't just shoot them, wherever on them it is that you do.
They went all the way around the block. This is not real time action, it was depicted in a story. Stop hyper focusing on the things that don't matter and pay attention to the things that do. >.
Well this is stupid, what kind of criminal would hold a gun out when he is in an small enclosed space just asking for it to be taken from him?? Sorry not very realistic at all.
Extremely well done! Very well shot and edited. Also wonderful action choreography! Just top rate! Quit picking it apart guys. Can you do anything close to this quality? I seriously doubt it.
I wish I could have that kinda of confidence, that kind of husband, the ladys hair, that action music. In real life unless you are a black belt who s gonna fight two guys in an elevator?
Karate is for kids. The best self defense is just that, "Defensive". Judo and other forms of S.D. makes Karate look stupid. You would be surprised at how easy it is to make a very large angry man cry and do anything you tell him to without you even breaking a sweat.
Stupid comment. Grappling is great for 1 on 1's but no matter how good you are you still only have 2 arms 2 legs. Kicks can't be used in an elevator. Fists are the most reliable weapon and Karate has the best approach for punches which is one strike mentality unlike boxing which is focused on combinations.
Wyatt Ostrem As one who has taken martial arts for a bit, I wouldn't say karate is for kids. It definitely can be useful to anyone who is proficiently trained in such, but I will agree there are more proficient arts out there. I took Taekwondo, Hapkido, some Krav Maga, and a little bit of Brazilian Jui-Jitsuo. Probably the most street effective of those would be Krav Maga. TKD provides you with the kicks and punches, while Hapkido gives you the joint locks, chokes, holds, submissions, and such. But Krav Maga is really probably the BEST street defense art out there.
I love this scene but dropping the magazine is not what I would do( of course I am not a Martial Arts expert) would keep this guys at bay until I could call the police and they arrived and yes if the perps advanced toward me I would shoot them in self defense!
The punks would lawyer up, and eventually get out of jail without learning a lesson. The beat down will make them think twice in the future before robbing someone.
Victor!!! it was Fantastic....The way you got the gun off-line fire is very similar of the way we do it in the Brazilian special forces... Just fantastic.
Victor, you are amazing. I'm only a 3rd Dan in Taekwondo, but have demonstrated the speed of the basic gun strip technique used in your videos. Yes. People think they can pull the trigger before you strip the gun. They are amazed. Technique. Technique. Technique!
Wow! That was GREAT! Nice bullet catch reflexes! She's got a great right hook! Kick to the batteries was "nailed on the head"! Oh, yeah, and the gun grabby thingy was neat, too, but the best part was the complete nonchalant expression on her face! AWESOME! Okay, the gun grab was excellent! I saw the other clip first where you were demonstrating it, then the movie clip. And that LINE! I LOVE IT! "You sure about this?" Whoo-hoo-hoo!!! You're like a good-looking Chuck Norris!
great job I like watching your vids, im def gonna check out your movie. I see your a black belt but in which art and did you learn any other styles over the years ?
approx 5.5 hours shooting time, 400 man hours total from inception to post production including building elevators etc., I think we had 10k in it total scene, bullet was not CG but actually she caught, and YES she is my real wife, 24 years with 5 kids. This is the opening scene of my documentary film. Hollywood filming is always different than real life. Believe me, this would not go down the same way if it were real. I don't mess around :-)
It was expensive having that film crew and a custom built elevator. I had to make it last at least a few minutes :-)
"I told you that you didn't want the lady." Haha this is awesome
All he had to do was tell Victor which elevator floor button to push and this could all have been avoided....
Lol
You guys are amazing. I've been doing martial arts my whole life. But the level of skill you display on those disarms simply blows me away. I'm making my entire class watch this.
Thats a really big elevator.
Long ride too..
Mad; I think the bad guy hit "STOP" that's why he hit run after the fight.
Seems legit right
madskittlz77 lol
Yeah, plenty of room to move about in. Not like the ones I use. Must be in America - everything's bigger over there, right?

If this were real, I would assume a guy who keeps getting up to try again is stupid beyond words.
Well people do... Quite often you actually need to tell them to stay down.
D Dol a
yeah i get he could really disarm someone like that but if that was real then after he took the gun they would have both just tackled him to the ground he might beable to out class them 1 on 1 but he would not beable to drop both at once if they just put their head's down and pulled his leg's out from under him easy
D Dol is right lol, it is more realistic that they keep getting up until they are knocked out than them not getting up after 1 punch in the stomach.
If this was real, that couple would have been pasted on that wall.

Great action, and the acting was even better. "Told you, you didn't want the lady." Love it! Great work.
Tnx for this Mr. Marx, I cracked myself up until I had tears in my Eyes.
Going through a rough spot so I really needed that one, God bless!
I never thought about that. Next time I will use the force to bend the gun in half while lifting them off their feet and making them strangle each other, also peeing themselves.

If Thomas and Martha Wayne had been trained this well then Bruce Wayne probably would have never became Batman 😂.
That was totally bad ass! -On a separate note, am I the only one that's reminded of the elevator fight scene w/Stallone in "Get Carter"?
Glock guns
Glock guns
Dennis Tucker that was more realistic than this. Nobody is going to put a gun to your head like that except in Steven Seagal movies
Thank you for the kind comments.

smoothsk8r44 BS, and typical of most inaccurate stereotypes.
They were perfectly justified in their actions as martial artists.
jd450lh Agree with both of you.
You can still be able to manifest concern for the attacker by just simply disarming and maiming them...
simple observation of history will show you how violent a "chirstian" is.
I was about to post that
I agree that often is the best choreography, The encounters I have been in for the most part would be boring on film, not all looked good but were effective. Thx for your comment - Mr. Marx
One of the things on my Bucket List is to meet Victor Marx but I don't think it will happen cos I can't afford to travel to see him and as much as I admire him he has far more important issues to deal with helping other people that are trying to get their lives on track but if Victor is ever in or near Springfield Illinois I would make it my mission to go to meet him
Paul Watkins Keep an eye on our travels Paul. I'm sure we will get out that way one of these days...so, pray for us to have the opportunity.
I met him he went to my school
+Victor Marx I pray for you everyday in all your ventures and pray that you are safe and well.
+Victor Marx frankly?that fight scene was better and more realistic than 90% of Hollywood productions.
coming from someone who train/fight and teach muay thai for over 27years.
sir I'm really big fan of what u do.
exactly why we did it that way. Thanks for your kind words!- VM
This is amazing i really want to learn this technique!
get of the bed then
Nicely put
***** Legal trouble VS Risk to you and your wife's life.
Yeah. I pick easily. You ?
***** And how can you be sure you can ? Shoot them in the leg, they ain't moving or causing trouble. One gun only to keep in check two guys, a partner who doesn't know much about h2h, enclosed environment, stressful situation...
No matter what there's always gonna be a chance, but that chance will usually be much greater if you don't just shoot them, wherever on them it is that you do.
Thank you :-)
Real life James..........James Bond
Thanks for getting it :-) !
very long ride to the same floor...
They never pressed another floor; the thug pressed for the elevator to stop.
Well at the end they kinda waited like elevator was still in motion...
And just prior to that wait, he pressed the button for the next floor.
actually the thug pressed stop. It was implied but it did not go over to well. thanks for your comment hope you liked it though. - Victor Marx
They went all the way around the block. This is not real time action, it was depicted in a story. Stop hyper focusing on the things that don't matter and pay attention to the things that do. >.
Victor, not only great martial artist, but both also great actors! I enjoyed watching!
Well this is stupid, what kind of criminal would hold a gun out when he is in an small enclosed space just asking for it to be taken from him?? Sorry not very realistic at all.
Read my comment from earlier today............September 18th 2014 in case you don't get back in here for a few weeks or so.
Sergeant Major there are alot of crazy people in this world that will do stupid things in small places
not all criminals think
The Master Sergeant Crap!
The Master Sergeant Now Top,you know there are stupid criminals! I've seen plenty all over the world!!! LoL. Sfc.D.L. Ryan 7th SF.GRP. Airborne Ret.
Wyatt Ostrem
As one who has taken martial arts for a bit, I wouldn't say karate is for kids.
In my opinion of course 😄
Of course kicks can be used in an elevator. Stop thinking kicks must be high.
Very efficient type of martial art. Not showy or fancy, straightforward and simple and very effective. Awesome video!
Wow. The shear epicness!! My heart is still racing. You guys definitely have my thumbs up!
Haha, this is so stupid.
Your mom love you!
Sarcasm ~
Victor!!! it was Fantastic....The way you got the gun off-line fire is very similar of the way we do it in the Brazilian special forces... Just fantastic.

All I can say is wow. My heart is STILL racing. I am now your newest subscriber!
Victor, you are amazing. I'm only a 3rd Dan in Taekwondo, but have demonstrated the speed of the basic gun strip technique used in your videos. Yes. People think they can pull the trigger before you strip the gun. They are amazed. Technique. Technique. Technique!
Victor, you are my hero! :) I just loaded this to my karate Facebook page. The finishing ridge hand was classic! Excellent form in a small space!
Loved it, so realistic. Most movie fights are to long. Thanks Victor
Your welcome...stay the course and thank you for your comment.
Seriously...you two are probably the most awesome husband & wife team ever :p
Decide which art you like most and pursue it. Find a humble teacher that you respect and you will be on your way.

You are fantastic Victor, your dad taught you very well. I also enjoy the message you put into your discussions, thought provoking.
THx
Awesome fight scene! Nicely done! Any behind the scened footage? It would nice to see how all this was done.
You're awesome! I found out about you when you came to my school today. I'm glad we got a chance to see you. :)
Thank you for your service and the inspiring message you give. God knows we need it!
