4:11 Little Fingers face just screams: "Oh my sweet summer child". Seriously this theory is heartbreaking: Ned made everyone think he wasn't loyal to his wife. Rheagar who was a kind man, known as a rapist. Jon was an outcast for his entire childhood. Robert was lied to because he couldn't handle the truth and almost everyone that knows the truth, gave their life to protect it.
***** Rheagar truly was a kind man, just listen to Ser Barristan Selmy. It's not his fault for not loving the Martell girl, it was an arranged marriage I believe. Besides Robert was opsessed with Lyanna, Ned never said she loved him. But Robert and the Mad King are not the most reasonable men.
+Exessen Even kind men do terrible things, Rheagar followed his heart, just like Lyanna. Everyone else lost their shit because of it, why do you think Jon Snow is made to be known as Neds son?
The part when Aemon asks about Ned choosing between honor and those he loves, Ned looks at Sansa... that paired with the music makes me cry so much. Idk why that part gets me.
another connection from the books that's one of my favorites jon chapter from 'A Clash of Kings': "Ghost sat on his haunches watching, silent as ever. Will he howl for me when I’m dead, as Bran’s wolf howled when he fell? Jon wondered. Will Shaggydog howl, far off in Winterfell, and Grey Wind and Nymeria, wherever they might be?" the last dany chapter after jon's death from 'A Dance With Dragons': "Off in the distance, a wolf howled. The sound made her feel sad and lonely."
+Dr Boom Why would giving birth a dwarf be more fatal than in regular cases? I'm just asking. They're just tiny babys, why would the mother had problems?
I would also point out that the evidence it 100x's greater and more clear in the books than what they've shown in the show, especially from Ned's inner monologue and dreams that you obviously don't get on the show. Some of the L+R=J videos use both book and show evidence because of that.
Two of my favorite things about the R+L=J theory are the connection with the Dayne family for Jon's birth, and Rhaegar's obsession about Azor Ahai and his belief that he wasn't meant to be a scholar, but a warrior. IE, he thought he was the "Prince that was Promised", but he later realized it was someone else, and required a different lover. I've always kinda felt Rhaegar knew that the Long Night was coming, and only through the fusion of "ice" and "fire" and a whole lot of sacrifice by both sides could the Prince that was Promised be born and later become Azor Ahai. Notice that the Starks and the Targaryan familes are the two most devastated families since Rhaegar and Lyanna eloped.
Yet Jon never even faces the NK head to head and his lineage meant absolutely nothing. Kills me watching all these old reaction videos and seeing everyone’s theories and ideas and knowing the crap pile we ended up with

Would be a cool thing to throw the theory a new bend as everyone thinks Mell will res him.
The fact that George asked them who Jon's mother is shows to me it has to be a significant person. It's not just some random woman, it's an already established character we know of.
Eric, you've been an excellent guide. My only addition to your narrative to Calvin would be that we do know that Lyanna actually didn't care for Robert. She even mentioned his child in the Vale (i think it was the Vale), and Ned recalled not being able to argue with her because he had held that baby in his arms. Great work, guys
In that same chapter I believe Ned thinks to himself that Robert loved a version of Lyanna that didn't exist. She was much like Arya not just in looks, but in temperament, willfulness and independence. Ned thinks had they married they would have constantly argued.

It’s currently 2018 I’ve been watching this channel since early 17 and haven’t seen this until now even though I’ve seen all the game of thrones reactions on this channel because until now it has always been blocked in my country and I don’t know why
Barristan did know about the flower Rhaegar gave Lyanna. He says in the book that he was ashamed he didn't defeat Rhaegar, and that he would've given the flower to Ashara Dayne.
There's also the nice detail of Daario giving a blue rose to Dany on the way to Mereen. Unrelated to Lyanna, but a nice nod to the bookreaders nonetheless. I'm appreciating it retroactively though, since i haven't read the books. I remembered the scene when you mentioned the rose.
Watching analysis videos like this makes me even more mad about Eddard's unjust death. He was awesome. He placed family over honor, and no one may ever know about it anytime soon. His death impacted me more than the red wedding (and that hit me hard). I remember tearing up when I first read the book, and again when I saw the amazing Sean Bean don him for the last time. Damn you George RR Martin for having such a likable character in an amazingly written series, I can't wait for more. Great discussion guys, love your GOT videos.
This is the thing though and it is something that I picked up on reading the books, as far as I remember but I could have forgotten something. Eddard never said that Jon was "his" bastard child. People saw the child and assumed it was his child and he never refuted it, but he never confirmed it either. The most he said was that "You may not have my name, but you have my blood."
First time I recognized the clue that Ned would confess a dishonour he didn’t commit in order to protect his family. He did it before being beheaded and he did it for Jon.
Something left out, I think, When Sam and Jon are cleaning/scrubbing down the tables at the Great Hall at Castle Black... they start goofing around and talking about his mother... there's a post in the background shot of Jon, is a carving. Initials. R + L = J. They literally spelled it out ALL the time right in front of us.
Calvin definitely needs to watch the Game of Thrones Complete History and Lore Videos. They are absolutly awesome and got me more hyped than ever for Season 6!
Plus if Arya is a lot like Lyanna not only in appearance but also that they both liked to fight and stuff I don't think Lyanna would be someone who would let a man kidnap her. She most likely escaped with Rhaegar voluntarily. I mean I don't think Arya would let anyone kidnap her she'd kill whoever tries and I think that Lyanna was like that too. I really hope that R+L=J happens this season. ((Sorry about my English))
Book spoilers & theories I have seen online: Apparently, Lyanna was the knight of the laughing tree at the tournament. She had defended Howland Reed from a bully & later hid behind a knights helmet in order to secretly enter the tournament & beat the bully again in public. Then the knight disappeared & the Mad King charged Rhaegar to find out who the mysterious "man" was. He supposedly never did, which when your dad is going crazy & you are at a tournament where you most likely had previously been planning to tell the lords of the realm you want to put your dad in medieval hospice at Dragonstone & take over the throne, it isn't very suspect that the son technically disobeyed/failed his dad the king's charge to find some dude. Instead we assume he figured out it was Lyanna (found her with her makeshift laughing tree sigil armor?). Then we see Rhaegar give the crown of blue winter roses to the person that had great skill & won their match up at the tournament but never would get any credit or accolades for it. That wasn't disrespecting his wife. Leaving said wife was disrespectful, however he had been matched with her by his dad. He hadnt been free to marry for love & in the books it really sets Rhaegar up to have prophetic dreams/has read & been convinced by prophecy that he &/or his children will save the world. In her vision in the house of the undying Dany sees what must be Rhaegar right after Elia have birth to their 2nd child. However he seems very sad vs happy to have a son. He says "the dragon must have 3 heads". He had 2 kids with Elia. But she was not strong enough to have a 3rd. How would he get the 3rd child? When you find a young & firey girl that puts bullies in their place and is also beautiful? How do you not fall in love and have that 3rd crucial child?
IIRC Ned was at the Trident. Robert was injured and sent Ned ahead to King's Landing and Storm's End before he went looking for his sister. That flashback is clearly the ToJ though.
the alt shift x vid (and all his vids for that matter) is/are incredible. this is better for the TV adaptation and very well edited. Q&A : does Calvin plan on reading the books at any point?
They left out Jon's conversation with Benjen in S1. Benjen hints that Jon wouldn't want to join the nights watch if he knew what he'd be giving up (his claim to the throne)
The guy who made the video (i believe it was Robbie McD) also did a compilation supporting resurrection and magic which was also very awesome! strongly recommend :)
something that the evidence video missed is actually when jon tells sam (i believe) that his father never talked about his mother and never even told him her name, and then when someone mentions lyanna and bran (i think) says my father never talked about her
Really nice video guys!....how many of you are going to be doing the reactions for the season six episodes?also did you see that the title for the first episode of season 6 is ..The Red Woman...so hyped!!
The biggest clue was when Sansa was talking to Littlefinger in the crypts. That was done on purpose. Heck even Sansa was made up to look like Lyanna with the dark hair when everybody and they momma know she got the Tully red hair.
Please tell me your going to do the other video this guy did "Resurrection & the Return of Magic"? It's equally epic and deals with Jon's resurrection and the prophecy. heres the link ruclips.net/video/f00tMCO6lZ8/видео.html
Great video. Hadn't seen that before myself. But when you announced you would watch a video about what happened in the trailer, I somehow thought you were talking about the Flashback scene with young Eddard Stark and hoped you would watch a video someone made on youtube about that event called "Tower of Joy" where the narration of that flashback from the audiobook is mixed with fanart for those scenes and awesome music. I'm so hyped for that scene and hope the show doesn't fuck it up. " 'And now it begins', said Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning. He unsheathed Dawn and held it with both hands. The blade was pale as milkglass, alive with light. 'No', Ned said with sadness in his voice. 'Now it ends.'"
I think we can safely say that calvin is indeed the prophet enoch come back to us to be a guiding light in this time to bring divine insight to the majesty that is game of thrones.
Ned Stark did fight at the Trident. However, that happened before the Sack of King's Landing, which happened before the Tower of Joy. So the Tower of Joy confrontation occurred a few weeks after Rhaegar died.
I'm interested in Eric's reaction to Preston Jacobs' videos that begin with the one titled "Tower, Tower, Joy, Joy". Preston gives a different formula, and as someone whose read the books, I'm interested in what Eric (and, now Calvin) would think.
Q and A. Jorah is Azor Ahai/The Prince that was promise. Supposed to be born amid salt and smoke. This is followed by a bleeding star in the sky and the return of dragons and the person must Have the blood of the dragon. Azor Ahai tempered his blade through the heart of a lion and his true love. Jorah was present when Danny walked from the fire and technically this could be considered as almost HIS rebirth too as from that moment on wards he pledged his life to Danny, a new chapter in his life. A bleeding star was seen in the sky after this AND it was followed by the return of the dragons. He also sails through Valeria with Tyrion where he gets grayscale, again a new chapter of his life begins, this time on "salty" sea water. Okay, kind of far fetched, but then what about this.. What about, the lion? He just captured Tyrion. Tyrion, is a lion. Have the blood of the dragon? He doesn't need it IN HIM, he just needs to HAVE it... Maybe on his sword? By killing his true love... Daenarys.
Lots of people don't get R+L=J.... some of us get the fact that Ned would never sire a bastard. It's hard to make the switch that the FATHER is the key, not the mother. Kudos Calvin!
Just wanted to chime in here and say this. Maybe you can inform Calvin about this Eric (if he still doesn't read the comment section). According to an interview with G.R.R Martin Targaryens are NOT, I repeat NOT immune to fire. Martin said that this was a common misconception and that even Danny CAN get burned (and does get burned slightly by Drogon in the books later on). He stated that the birth of her Dragons was a magical one-time event, a miracle and that this probably will not happen again with her. In fact there are many pieces of evidence that support this. Such as the fact that the doom of Valeria was due to volcanos erupting, which killed almost all the dragons. Which confirms that even DRAGONS are not immune and can be killed by fire. It is well established (and confirmed by G.R.R. Martin) however that Targaryens are highly resistant to high temperatures and fire.
Also when Ned says, "next time we see each other, we'll talk about your mother". That means Jon would be out of reach from the king because he would be a man of the night's watch
+oDemolisher WOW! never thought about it!

+Tristan Bigornia - That was the first thing I thought when I entered my comment lol. But do you think Calvin can get the theory just by that particular clue. It was like tywin said that in anger and outrage. But yeah since we know the theory, that scene does support it quite well.
Mustafa Hussain Hm, true enough. The show could expand on it further via Bran flashback, but yeah, current proof is near nil.
Too bad you guys can't react to Ned's dream. because it might spoil The Tower of Joy flashback. Calvin would love it though. Why are three Kingsguard guarding Llanya Stark if not to protect a prince. Another thing Eric, Aegon the conqueror married both of his sisters so there's president for polygamy.
+cheynedogg
*precedent :P
And yes you are correct
Great channel. Just finished watching the entire series reaction with Calvin, you've got a new subscriber!
You are one of the few book-reader/show-watcher channels that don't come off as whiny know-it -alls or just bitch incessantly about the show not exactly matching the books, so it's really nice to find a channel that does what you guys do. I love how hype y'all get, it's like watching with my own group of friends who cheer and holler and boo and scream and just genuinely enjoy the show like y'all are :) Don't get me wrong, LOVE the books, but I understand that adaptions aren't literal translations and they've got time and budget constraints to work around. I think they're doing a pretty damn good job adapting such a sprawling, epic book series so far.
Thanks for your videos. I look forward to more!
in one of dany's house of the undead stuff she even sees a silver haired guy with a harp next to a women who has a child in her arm and says his will be the song of ICE and FIRE
I have been waiting all week for this!
The tower of Joy happens at the very end of the war, Rhaegar and the mad king are already dead when they fight for Lyanna
Nice video, but man I can't wait until season 6 starts. I'm super hyped already and then thinking about your crew reacting to the episodes, now with DETECTIVE CALVIN, just adds to the hype! :D Two more weeks...
Ahhhhhh ERIC this is so good!!!! You showed him my favorite video!!!!!
congrats on your Game of Thrones videos guys; really enjoyed the episode ride with Calvin
very insideful talks that gave even me,big GoT fan, new stuff to chew on
your passion for the show is wonderful to see and got me into the hype mode for season 6
keep (in the spirit of the show) killing it guys ;)
One of The best videos u guys has Done I get super emotional every time! i really Love it great work !
This cements Ned as my favorite character.
As little as as we see him, we see that he was, quite possibly, the best human being in this series.
You guys are by far my favourite react channel ive got my Exams now but besides studying i sometimes take a break and watch you guys i love your GOT videos i lovee your reactions and i love your guys friendship keep it going and i hope that one day you will get your 100k button!
It’s currently 2018 I’ve been watching this channel since early 17 and haven’t seen this until now even though I’ve seen all the game of thrones reactions on this channel because until now it has always been blocked in my country and I don’t know why
great video can't wait for your season 6 reactions
Barristan did know about the flower Rhaegar gave Lyanna. He says in the book that he was ashamed he didn't defeat Rhaegar, and that he would've given the flower to Ashara Dayne.
Alt Shift X
Uhhhh fking confirmed i waited so long at it was so beautiful
Catelyn Stark was my favorite character. She is so heartbreaking.
Im glad i didnt nerd out and hear about this theory before it was released. It would have SUCKED to have learned about this before it was revealed.
Had to come back and enjoy this video again. Detective Calvin really earned that Hand of the King pin on that day.
I wonder if Aemon knew who is Jon really.
Me too!!!
Everyone thinks "Who got Ned to forget his honor? What woman could do that?" His sister. Not some beauty like Ashara Dayne.
I wish the show runners would make a prequel series starting some years before the rebellion
Wish granted.
Love this guys!
There is a huge hole in this theory. Why did Ned dream "dark disturbing dreams of blood and broken promises"? What promises did he break?
This is the thing though and it is something that I picked up on reading the books, as far as I remember but I could have forgotten something.
Eddard never said that Jon was "his" bastard child. People saw the child and assumed it was his child and he never refuted it, but he never confirmed it either.
The most he said was that "You may not have my name, but you have my blood."
I thought you gonna show Calvin the alt shift x video about R+L=J, thats pretty cool.
+MrClock It has some stuff that hasn't aired on the show yet =x
Awesome video!
Finally it's up again
This literally made me cry...I m commenting here when final season is not so far...
I'm glad I didn't see any of this stuff when I first watched the show. I got to experience all the shock and awe unblemished.
I COME FROM THE MYSTERIOUS LAND OF BLANWEVDATKOM!
also they say that blue rose is lyanas favorite flower.
the alt shift x vid (and all his vids for that matter) is/are incredible. this is better for the TV adaptation and very well edited.
You guys are awesome.
something that the evidence video missed is actually when jon tells sam (i believe) that his father never talked about his mother and never even told him her name, and then when someone mentions lyanna and bran (i think) says my father never talked about her
Really nice video guys!....how many of you are going to be doing the reactions for the season six episodes?also did you see that the title for the first episode of season 6 is ..The Red Woman...so hyped!!
The biggest clue was when Sansa was talking to Littlefinger in the crypts. That was done on purpose. Heck even Sansa was made up to look like Lyanna with the dark hair when everybody and they momma know she got the Tully red hair.
that would be awesome if once he is brought back to life if the dragons sense it and rhaegal comes to him
AGH! There's still over 2 weeks to go! >.< I need Season 6 now!!!
Eric's facial expressions are torturing me and I bet my face is worse
Please tell me your going to do the other video this guy did "Resurrection & the Return of Magic"? It's equally epic and deals with Jon's resurrection and the prophecy. heres the link ruclips.net/video/f00tMCO6lZ8/видео.html
You 2 are my favorite.
Such a fun watching this two years later when the whole world knows :-)
One week to go WOOO!
Man, this just reminded me how amazing Peter Vaughn was as Aemon
you guys should react to Alt Shift X's video on R+L=J. it's really good and informative!
Daenarys.
Soooo, if Q&A is next week, then is there anything GoT related for sunday? I hope there is :D
+Matt Spade Oh yeah, I think Eric mentioned the BLR video last week, so probably that.
Lots of people don't get R+L=J.... some of us get the fact that Ned would never sire a bastard. It's hard to make the switch that the FATHER is the key, not the mother. Kudos Calvin!
You ought to show him the twenty minute animated feature on The Dance of The Dragons. Its amazing.
