I did what you did with taking off the shell and putting the seed in watered tissue. Then I planted the tissue in potting soil. Then I put a translucent plastic lid on the top of the pot. The water in the soil evaporates hits the plastic and back onto the soil creating a sort of terrarium. Two weeks later and the plant has sprouted and is growing nicely. It is growing in a sunny window in the UK.

Yeh mate I think I'm going to try this method. I've just bought a punnet of local cherries that are a bit pricey @ £3 for a small punnet.
After looking on RUclips to see if cherry seeds are good for growing, and how difficult it is. It seems this way is a good method so I might grow the whole punnets worth and maybe sell a few plants on to recoup the money. These cherries are quite well revered in my area so I may as well grow as many as I can.....Plus, I might buy another punnet of a different variety they get from the same orchard. They've got the traditional dark coloured cherries, and a yellow & lighter red variety so it might be worth growing both lots 😆
Glad to see that it works here too 👍

So glad I watched this video! Articles I read did NOT tell me I needed to deshell the seeds. I suppose they would have sprouted eventually, but not until the shell decomposed. 😬

Another method is to put the cherry stones in a container of damp sand. For 28 days put the container in the freezer for 8 hours and in the fridge for 16 hours. Then after 28 days plant the stones. You don't have to crack open the stones.

Cherry seeds need stratification. This is a time in the refrigerator or outside for winter so then they can sprout in the springtime. Some seeds and bulbs need a cold spell because of where they are native to.

I have often wondered about the TIMING of cherry seedlings .. I would think it makes sense to "save" the seeds for the following spring so that there will be a LONGER growing season .. and thus a much healthier BIGGER cherry tree in the first season. Any thoughts on this ? But this, of course, would mean that one would have to be organized and to put the seeds away until the next growing season in the spring.
